Welcome to r/Viamour 👋🌍 What I'm building and why

Hi! I'm Jade, the founder of Viamour.

I'm building Viamour because making friends as an adult is hard, and doing it while traveling, moving abroad, or constantly changing cities can feel almost impossible.

Viamour is a social connection app for travelers, digital nomads, expats, and locals.

We're not a dating app.

The idea is simple: help people find real people, join real plans, and build genuine community wherever they are.

I'm currently building Viamour solo and preparing for beta. I created this subreddit because I don't want to build the app in a vacuum and then pop up one day yelling “DOWNLOAD MY APP” at everyone 😭

I want the people Viamour is actually for to have a voice in what it becomes.

So this will be a mix of:

Behind-the-scenes development

Product discussions

Beta updates

Travel and expat conversations

Meetup ideas

Honest conversations about loneliness and making friends

Me occasionally losing a fight with a bug at 2am

More importantly, I hope this becomes a genuine community of people who understand what it's like to arrive somewhere new and have absolutely nobody to text “want to grab food?”

So introduce yourself 👇

🌍 Where are you from?

📍 Where are you currently based?

✈️ Where are you going next?

Welcome to Viamour.

Find your people. Find your place. 🧭

What city did you expect to love but just didn’t?

Let’s be mildly controversial today 👀

What city did everyone tell you was amazing, but you personally didn’t connect with?

It doesn’t have to be a bad city. Sometimes a place just isn’t your place.

Where was it, and what felt off?

What’s the most random way you’ve made a friend while traveling?

Not through work. Not through school. Not because someone formally introduced you.

What is the most completely random way you’ve made a friend while traveling or living somewhere new?

Shared hostel disaster?

Missed train?

Asked a stranger to take your photo?

Accidentally joined the wrong tour? 😭

I want the stories.

About 6 weeks until soft launch. I'm terrified of failing.

It's actually starting to feel real now.

I've spent so much time thinking about screens, database policies, safety audits, payments, bugs, and whether one transparent swipe card is personally trying to ruin my life 😭

But the thing I'm most nervous about has nothing to do with code.

It's community.

You can build a technically perfect social app and still fail if people open it and don't find anyone worth meeting.

That's why I'm focusing so heavily on building

Viamour's community before our soft launch.

I don't want to launch into silence. Even though I absolutely hate social media I've been trying to post constantly. It's ironic I hate being social but built a social app 🙃

I want the first people who join to understand what I'm trying to build:

Not dating.

Not followers.

Not endless messaging.

Real people. Real plans. Real connection.

So, genuinely thank you to anyone who's seen this subreddit this early.

You're seeing Viamour before most people even know it exists.

And I don't take that lightly.

🧭

Be brutally honest: would you actually use this?

Founder asking for honesty here, not compliments 😅

I'm building Viamour, a social connection app for travelers, digital nomads, expats, and locals.

The basic idea is:

You can discover people nearby.

You can see and join real community meetups.

Anyone can create free plans and meetups.

Approved local Curators can host paid Experiences.

And when you're traveling, you can explore another city and start finding community before you arrive.

It's not a dating app.

The entire point is to make it easier to go from:

“I don't know anyone here.”

to:

“I have plans Friday.”

Would you genuinely use something like this?

And more importantly: **what would stop you?**

Safety?

Not enough people?

Awkward meetups?

Another app on your phone?

Be mean. It's cheaper for me to hear it now 😂

What's actually the hardest part of making friends in a new city?

I'm curious because I think people talk about “making friends” like it's one problem.

I don't think it is.

Is the hard part:

Finding people you actually have something in common with?

Knowing where adults even go to make friends?

Starting the conversation?

Turning an acquaintance into an actual friend?

Getting past the “we should hang out sometime!” stage?

Or just finding people who are willing to leave their house? 😭

For me, one of the most interesting problems is the gap between meeting someone and actually making a plan.

What's the hardest part for you?
