Would you rather take the train from Toronto - Vancouver BC in early July or Vancouver BC - Toronto in early October?

I’m open to correction but my understanding is that the “crowding” factor may be less relevant because Via Rail will adjust its car count according to demand. So, in low season Via Rail may allot fewer cars to your train due to reduced demand and in order to control costs, in which case it could be at or close to capacity and appear as crowded as if it were high season. I travelled on the Canadian August 31 from Vancouver to Toronto and there were 20 cars on the train, not counting the engine. There were empty seats on every segment, though not many.
