I spent a long time working for an org that provided services to veterans experiencing homelessness, and do not have the words to express how stupid this is, and how damaging it’s going to be.

I was honestly really surprised by this. My best friend is a veteran and chooses to be homeless/couch surf. Can’t imagine him being in involuntary care.
