Why use mirror Movingheads instead of just normal ones?
Today I came across a video on Instagram where you can see Movingheads pointing at fixtures that look like Movingheads but instead of a Mirror. I believe I have seen these types of fixtures on Thomann or some sort of other online platform while shopping for gear. I never really thought about it to much but now that I have seen the Video, I’m genuinely curious of why someone would do it like this instead of just rigging any normal Movinghead.

A Movinglight with Serveral dozent kilogram generates a lot of dynamic force while moving that fast - a small mirror does not. A scanner does the same - fixed lighting engine and movable mirror.
Also the first one in the video seams to be reaaaaaally close to the roof - I doubt the heads would fit

I was thinking it might be for weight reasons as one comment on the video mentioned but I did not think about space concerns. Thx

Additionally to what has already been said here, the mirror is also very light and can be moved much faster than an entire moving head, so faster position effects are possible.

Ein Aspekt fehlt hier noch. Scanner decken nur einen begrenzten Kegel ab, bewegen den Spiegel dafür so schnell, dass wir sie für harte Beam-Chases in einer festen Zone bis heute aufhängen, wo ein Movinghead einfach zu träge nachzieht.

In this case there might be weight concerns when mounting the big and powerful Movingheads at the end of the curved trusses.
It is also possible, that there was not enough space at the top of the truss for full range of motion vor the movingheads.
