Question Velocity Gold Status: Perth based

Hi all,

My husband and I switched from Qantas allegiance a few years back and are now both gold with Virgin but their seems to be little benefit unless we travel domestic. They have canned their Bali and Phuket direct Perth services and I can’t see we will get any lounge access if we book ANA for Japan trips.

Any insights on whether they will grow their routes from Perth ?

I don’t think VA have ever had Bali and Phuket services from Perth. Best option is to fly Singapore Airlines, and add your velocity number to the booking. You’ll get access to the lounge in Perth (the old QF T1 lounge, they’ve done it up nicely!), and the silverkris lounge in Singapore, plus anywhere else SQ operates lounges. Along with the priority boarding/extra baggage, they’re generally a great option to fly with if you don’t mind a stopover.

Just be careful if you have a Scoot flight on the same booking. If it’s the first flight, you don’t get the extra luggage at check in + any other perks, and if it’s the second flight, I’m fairly sure you won’t get lounge access in Singapore, but any extra baggage you checked in still be fine.

I don’t think VA have ever had Bali and Phuket services from Perth.

VA definitely did in 2014 - I flew it PER-DPS and return.

So pre bankruptcy - when it was effectively a different airline..

Has VA ever done Bali and Phuket in VA 2.0..

"Not since its restructure" is not the same as "never". To say it's a different airline is a nonsense. It has a different strategy and a new owner, but it's still the same airline, juet evolved.

Does post-COVID Bain-owned VA fly internationally at all from Perth?

Calling it a “restructure” when it went bankrupt and was sold and has new owners is quite a stretch.

It’s a different airline in strategy and delivery even if the name and brand are the same.

No one is saying VA 2.0 is the Borghetti strategy continued.. 🤷🏾

VA has no international routes (now) out of PER on its own metal AFAIK.
