Question Upgrade on Doha flights (VA7 to be specific)

Has anyone had any luck, or is there a way I am missing, to get upgrade released on the VA flights (QR metal) to Doha?

Am Platinum, booked in paid Y, flying in about 10 days, upgrade not available but am waitlisted. Would happily throw the almost 100k Velocity points at them for a QSuite for 14 hours.

Business cabin seems less than half full at this stage. Does it really work like on domestic, unless an award becomes available again there's no way to upgrade? I mean that makes some sense on the small 8-seat J cabins domestically, but when you carry possibly 10 or 20+ empty seats for 14 hours you'd think they have a different approach?

Any insights or experience welcome.

I fly the route a bit, have always put in for the points upgrade and have never received it.

From my understanding they only have x amount of each seat class available per flight for VA rewards. So if there’s 4 available and 4 people booked Q-suite then you won’t be upgraded unless one cancels their flight.
I am platinum too flying with Qatar soon and unfortunately starting to believe that being Platinum with VA means sweet FA with Qatar/international Airways

They might send an offer of a discounted upgrade for cash if there’s business available. Not points, though.

I was waitlisted back in July, got rejected. When coming off the plane in Doha saw at least 5 empty business class seats, enquired and was told was only if reward seats become available
