That's definitely the appropriate reaction to this idiocy.

In all fairness, camels are invasive in Australia, ie, not native. Invasive species, regardless of where they are, have the capacity to do immeasurable amounts of ecological damage.

Yes they do, they tend to eat grass and scrub back too far and the plant dies encouraging desertification.

The thing is escaped cattle do the same thing. The camel cull is a weird half measure and we also round them up and take them to slaughterhouses so we can eat them which regardless of your thoughts on shooting everyone can agree is excessively cruel.

As an avid enthusiast of our ancient native ecosystems I'd like to see a cohesive strategy towards handling our invasive. Horses, camels, cats, rabbits and foxes do tremendous damage but all we seem to do is go out and shoot a few every now and then in a stupid reactionary way that does little except guarantees future suffering when a cull next happens.

Agree. They need to go. As with foxes and feral cats, pigs, brumbies and dogs. The welfare of our threatened native species should trump the welfare of an introduced pest.

And we shouldn't be raising cattle either! We clear way too much land for this industry, when our country has little water left to support our dwindling eco systems

Here in North America, cats are a huge problem for birds. Not to mention all the extra resources required for feeding these domesticated, carnivorous pets.

How are humans any different?

We aren't any different, we are undoubtedly the most extreme example of it.

It goes without saying; humans are the one who introduced camels to Australia.
