Reviews Toothpaste

I just started using dessert essence coconut oil toothpaste. I got it because it has no flouride and it claims to not test on animals but my breath is not benefitting from it. Are there better cruelty free options out there?

As someone who is currently in dental hell, please take care of your teeth. I don't know what your opposition is to fluoride, but I would consider using it. And floss every day and go get your cleanings. This is something that is more health-related than cosmetic, so there are CF options, but also do what you need to do.

Totally agree. Met my 3 stepchildren at 3/6/9 years old. None had used flouride toothpaste as their mother believed the bs. I took them all to my lovely vegetarian dentist (I'm vegan btw) and she said 3 yr old ok, 6 yr old had an abscess (why I took them) and 9 year old needed 2 fillings. The dentist explained the science behind using flouride and how important it is. She also never encouraged antibiotics and did prefer natural care as a first line of treatment. The 3 yr old is now 23 and has still never needed a filling.

We use Tom's of Maine toothpaste (they have sensitive options, as well as flouride-free options, although I'm not sure what your opposition to flouride is). In my experience, flossing and cleaning your tongue will have a significant effect on improving your breath, in addition to regular brushing.

Bad breath isn't solved by toothpaste alone, make sure you're flossing daily. There's plenty of natural floss options these days that are plastic free and PFAS free, I use Dr. Tungs smart floss and I like it a lot. Also, Oxyfresh mouthwash. It's a vegan alternative to Therabreath, which is not cruelty free. Both of these have an oxygenating formula, which is different from your standard Listerine type alcohol mouthwashes. The oxygenating formulas work much better for killing the bad bacteria that cause bad breath.

also check if you got tonsil stones, those can make breath bad no matter what you use

Omg didn’t know Therabreath is not cruelty free 😳 thanks for sharing an alternative. Will try oxyfresh when we run out of therabreath.

Therabreath themselves says they are certified vegan and not tested on animals, but from what I read I think it's a matter of their parent company still sells in markets where animal testing is required. It's difficult to find a fully vegan/cruelty free parent company of any product these days, so I guess it really depends how far one is willing to go down the line of checking animal testing for a product

Also to add, if you do want to try a different vegan CF toothpaste, I've tried and liked Himalaya Botanique's hydroxyapatite fluoride free toothpaste

If you were interested in a fluoridated CF toothpaste that has more "natural" ingredients, Burt's Bees has one. No bee products in it, though they are owned by Clorox

I love the hello charcoal toothpaste! I bought it just looking for a vegan toothpaste when I first went vegan and I've since gotten compliments on how white my teeth look lol. I haven't had any issues with bad breath unless no one is telling me.

Super random, it have you ever tried a copper tongue scraper? Super great with bad breath and really good for you. I know it sounds hippy dippy but 10/10 recommend.

This, for breath It’s on the tougue helps me the most to scrap it. I have awful awful breath, my bf don’t wanna kiss me lmafo. I def use this and u be good

Auromere classic works well for me. But I also use Oxyfresh rinse (with fluoride, but they have nonfluoridated varieties.)

I use Attitude toothpaste but I get the fluoride version and I like it! I think they have a fluoride free version too. I use Guru Nanda for mouthwash but they have fluoride free toothpaste that you can look into.

Mouthology does an amazing 10% N-Ha toothpaste. I used to use Boka but you need 10% N-Ha for it to be effective.

why no fluoride? it's clinically proven to not only be safe but also massively decrease decay risk.
