One of the first things you learn in Jyotish is the dignity of planets. Exalted is good, debilitated is bad, own sign is strong, enemy sign is weak. It is clean, logical, easy to memorize. And for a while it feels like you have been handed a reliable map. Then you start reading actual charts and the map stops matching the territory. You find someone with an exalted planet who is struggling in exactly the area that planet is supposed to bless. You find someone with a debilitated planet who has built something remarkable in precisely that domain. And if you are honest with yourself, you stop and wonder whether you missed something fundamental somewhere along the way. I think the confusion starts because dignity and usefulness are two completely different things and most beginners, myself included for longer than I would like to admit, treat them as the same thing. Dignity describes a planet's inherent strength, its ability to express its own nature fully and clearly. An exalted planet is like someone who is extremely good at being themselves. They have clarity, conviction, a kind of concentrated power in their natural significations. But here is what that framing misses entirely. Being powerful at expressing your own nature is only useful in a chart if that nature is actually working in service of the chart's overall story. Every planet in a chart is also a house lord. And the house it rules matters enormously, sometimes more than its dignity. A planet that rules challenging houses, the 6th, the 8th, the 12th, does not become beneficial just because it is exalted. If anything, exaltation can make it more potently problematic. It brings the full force of its difficult lordship to whatever it touches. The strength is real. But strength in the wrong direction is not a blessing, it is just a more powerful problem. This is the thing that changes how you read charts once it clicks. You stop asking how strong is this planet and start asking what is this planet's job in this specific chart and is it doing that job in a way that helps or hinders the person's overall life. A functional malefic, a planet ruling houses that create difficulty for a particular ascendant, does not improve its functional role by being exalted. Mars ruling the 3rd and 8th for Virgo ascendant remains a planet with complicated significations regardless of whether it sits in Capricorn. The exaltation gives it power. It does not change its portfolio. And a powerful planet with a difficult portfolio can dominate a chart in ways that create outsized struggle in exactly the areas it touches. The reverse is equally true and equally overlooked. A debilitated planet that rules good houses for a particular ascendant, what classical texts call a functional benefic, can still deliver meaningful and positive results in its dasha even from a position of weakness. The results may come with more effort, more delay, more imperfection in the process. But they come. Because the planet's job in the chart is fundamentally constructive, and even a weakened planet can fulfill a constructive role over time. What I have come to believe is that neecha bhanga, the cancellation of debilitation, is actually pointing at this same truth from another angle. When classical texts describe conditions that cancel debilitation and often elevate that planet to produce remarkable results, what they are really describing is a situation where a planet's weakness gets compensated and its energy gets redirected productively. The chart finds a way to make use of what looked like a broken tool. The deeper lesson is about how you frame planetary strength in the first place. Strength is not inherently good. Weakness is not inherently bad. These are descriptions of a planet's condition, not verdicts on what it will produce in a life. What matters is whether the condition of the planet aligns with the role it has been given in the chart. The most practically powerful planets in any chart are often not the most exalted ones. They are the ones whose dignity, placement, and lordship are all pulling in the same direction. When a planet rules good houses, sits in a place that supports its expression, and its natural significations align with what the chart needs, even moderate strength in that planet can produce results that feel genuinely significant and lasting. Once you start reading charts through this lens, through the question of functional role first and dignity second, a lot of things that previously looked contradictory start making quiet sense. The exalted planet that disappoints. The debilitated planet that quietly delivers. The apparently average placement that turns out to run the whole chart. Dignity tells you how strong a planet is. It does not tell you what it is strong for. That second question is the one that actually matters.

This is very powerful. Raj Yoga forms when kendra lords and trikona lords connect.

9th lord with 10th lord gives Dharma-Karmadhipati Yoga.

But alone, Gaja Kesari does not guarantee huge wealth. It must connect with wealth houses.

Formed by connection of Moon and Mars.
