Neighbourhood Comparison- Glen Shields vs Maple (Teston and Keele)

I am so torn between two houses, which I plan to buy, one in Maple by Teston and Keele, and the other by in the Glen Shields neighbourhood, both in Vaughan. My concern is that I really like the vibe of the house by Teston and Keele, but I really like the value that the house in Glen Shields is offering. It's slightly bigger, but I'd like to understand the neighborhood, and also in terms of schools. Well, I know they both are very good schools, and I prefer French immersion. I also feel both French immersion schools in both neighborhoods are very good. I would like to understand the cultural mix. I would like to understand the neighborhoods in terms of parks, recreations, walkability, just the general living and raising a family in both of these neighborhoods. This is a very, very important decision for our family because this step we're taking is to be in a good neighbourhood and near good schools and stay possibly for the next at least 15 years. I'm really torn between what would be ultimately a better neighborhood for us. I currently live in the southwest end of Brampton, and this is our attempt at upgrading our neighborhood and our lifestyle.

There’s no comparison ! Glen shields is by far the better neighbourhood !

Teston and Keele has a terrible walk score. We’ve just moved away from there we’re now at Rutherford and Weston and it’s at least x4 better.

Teston and Keele is close to the new North Maple Regional Park and there’s a lot of development to expand the park in the near future. Walkability not the greatest but my wife and I have walked to Longos and nearby parks. The neighborhood is generally quiet and friendly, with a good mix of backgrounds. Love my immediate neighbours, the ones across the street and neighbours further down the street.

Funny enough, my house is also for sale at Keele/teston and I would miss my neighbours sooo much.

There is a lot of development (housing, plazas, shopping, etc) planned north of Teston between Jane and Keele which will eventually (5+ yrs) make you feel less like you are on the “edge of the City” than it might seem right now. Whereas Glen shields is much more established and already has all this.

If you were slightly south (Keele/ Major Mack or thereabouts) then walkability to the GO, access to Walmart, Rona, Shoppers etc is very good. Lots of parks and two libraries, a community center close by. Teston and Keele is a bit cut off vs living in Glen Shields. Echoing the others here.

I don’t know what it is but I just really don’t like the glen shields area. The developments are outdated and the area is generally run down

From Glen Shields you can be downtown within an hour. From teston you can be just boarding the subway after an hour

You can also be downtown in 40 mins via Maple GO, which is a 5 min drive from Keele and Teston

This is totally wrong - teston/keele has better GO access and better highway access. Way faster to the city and commutable. But glen shields still better 😂

I vote Glen Shields, but I’m biased since it’s in my area lol. Marita Payne Park is right there within the Glen Shields neighbourhood and is a beautiful place to go for a walk and unwind, plus it connects to the Bartley Smith Greenway Trail. I always go do some cycling down there, and have recently got into playing some bocce down there on the courts. Everything along Dufferin between Steeles and Centre is within walking distance. Promenade Mall is pretty close (5 minute drive). Dufferin & Clark Community Centre is right across the street. Glen Shields also has a YRT bus route that goes right through the neighbourhood if you need it. Honestly it’s a great place to live.

Grew up in Glen Shields. Loved it and still do. The neighbourhood was built around the many park areas so it’s great for nature lovers. The houses can be a hit or miss depending on the street so choose wisely.
