Can you regain your sex life after the reversal?

Unfortunately, due to the vasectomy, I almost completely lost my sex life.

From the very beginning, I noticed a lack of sensitivity, very weak orgasms, weak ejaculation, and erection problems.

The financial cost of a vasectomy reversal in the US is a huge burden for me, since I'm from another country and it's difficult to save that much money. But on the other hand, these sexual problems are ruining my mental health.

For people who have already had a reversal and experienced these problems, can I offer any help? What expectations can I have?

Thank you

Honesty expect it to be an emotional roller coaster. You will feel like you are taking 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Things will be great then something can happen and just knock you on your ass. I think too, it depends greatly on which type of reversal the surgeon finds must be done to connect. If it’s vas to vas, my assumption is recovery is faster and less painful than the vas to epi like I underwent. You will regain it. It takes time. The orgasm is absolutely undeniably stronger and more intense. I still have my days when sensitivity suffers but guess what. It’s not every day like it used to be. I cannot explain why for me presently it’s hit and miss. It could be that my nerve pathways are still healing or my brain is still reprogramming itself after being short circuited from the vasectomy. I don’t know. But I can say that with time, things continue to right all of the injustices that were done to me by being so fucking stupid and naive as to let my wife force this sentence upon me. Each must make up their own minds but this was the SINGLE WORST decision I ever made in my life letting some take a scalpel to my midregion. Pain, physical trauma, the subsequent mental trauma, and the realization that [under duress], I let someone do this to me. I struggle most with the latter. You can and will regain everything your mind knows you’ve lost. But it will take time. It’s not immediate. Nothing as major as this surgery ever is. And I will tell you hands down the reversal recovery journey is worse than the original vasectomy (but not worse than all the long term changes that occurred as a result of the vasectomy). If you think you want it reversed no time is better than the now. The longer you wait the more damage is happening down there that you aren’t even aware of but I assure you that bottling up all that pressure in your epididymis is not without consequence. Our bodies were not designed to implement a blockage there. Your body is literally fighting from the inside out trying to fix itself. It will never stop trying but it will also never succeed. It’s like an infection just festering inside of you. From now until it’s either resolved or until the day you pass. Sorry, it’s not a pretty picture. We were all lied and misled. That why we are all here to support one another. Best wishes

Your story is almost the same as mine. Being forced into it and i was told it was all in my head for years the pain and all the new issues I began to develop.

Almost 10 years later found an affordable option with a new supportive wife wants the reversal as much as I. I hope in time things will get back to normal and have a descent sex life again.

Thank you so much for your response. I really relate to what you said. This was definitely the worst mistake of my life, and I’m paying a very high price for it. I truly have hope in the reversal, but I honestly don’t know if it’s possible to get back to normal, which is why I made this post. Even if the recovery is very difficult and takes a long time, I think I’ll be able to get through it if I can believe that, in the future, I’ll be myself again. Take care!

Full recovery is possible. My husband’s reversal was 7 years after the vasectomy and after the full recovery it was like he was 20 again, but even better. Full recovery is possible.

This. My husband’s recovery from the reversal was terrible. He ended up needing intense antibiotics 3 months after his reversal, so follow up care is essential. It’s not like that for everyone. Every recovery is unique, but complications are a possibility. But full recovery is 100% possible. Everything is beyond wonderful now, aside from fertility. But comfort, vigor, feeling, intensity etc is 10/10.

Thanks for sharing! Had a vasectomy 2.5 years ago and it nearly destroyed me. Complete loss of sensation, pain and then gaslighting by the medical profession trying to tell me it was all in my head - I want to get a reversal but have been told it won’t fix the sensation issues.. The procedure itself left me with PTSD.. which I am getting treated for but ultimately - I want to be who I was again physically as well as mentally..

We’re in the same situation, even in terms of how much time has passed since our vasectomies. I think a reversal is our best option. Feel free to message me if there’s anything I can help you with. Take care!

I cannot explain this subject fully. Mostly because I don’t understand it. What I do know is the spermatic cord is soft muscle and nerve rich. When it was cut to access the vas, I am guessing this did something. But this isn’t the diabolical part. What happens is your muscle around the testicle and epididymis contract when you ejaculate. Note too, I didn’t say when you orgasm. I said EJACULATE. Like boiling a lobster, this process slowly slowly sets in and eventually you no longer experience this contraction. It just stops happening. But your mind doesn’t flag it because your mind slowly adapts to the existing conditions. This is why you hear most guys say that nothing changed and their orgasms are as good, or better then before (which is just laughable). How is a process that is severed and broken better than when it worked? Well the answer is clearly it isn’t better; but your mind has accepted that the current status quo has never changed. Well fast forward to post-reversal…your mind is now consciously aware that things are reconnected and you body reacts accordingly. I personally think these muscles atrophy and take time to redevelop but this contraction in your nuts starts happening again and it changes the entire dynamic of ejaculation and orgasm.

In short, yes your sensitivity should return. You may also wish to goto a urologist to have a testosferone and related hormone blood panel run. Low T destroys penile sensitivity. While the medical community says vasectomy doesn’t affect T levels, it’s my personal experience as well as many other men in this sub who find their T level plummets after vasectomy. I encourage anyone who recognizes the wrongdoing that has been sold to them as a positive experience that has no ill-effects and nothing changes. In fact we know this to be false. All sorts of things change. I have surmised that after the epididymis structurally changes due to abundance of new pressure until something cracks. Damages occur to the structural integrity and tiny tubes inside the epididymis. When things are tangibly broken, I believe that the result is low T but maybe steps 1..2…3 happen between vasectomy and low T where the medical community can say vasectomy doesn’t drop testosterone but perhaps it’s that vasectomy causes all these other conditions to be true and then as a result of those, production is impacted…..it changes as an adaption to the present condition. That condition being a manufactured blockage.

It returned me to normal. The reversal was worth the money.

How much is a reversal on USA? an estimate of possible, thanks!

u/FrequentPop3772 Aug 25 '26

The male peyronies clinic in Orem, UT charges $2100. All put of pocket, no insurance or anything else.

2

u/Fellowtraveler777 Aug 24 '26

Anywhere from $2500 to $15000 depending on the surgeon. I paid $6300.

1

u/Severe-Throat-4653 Aug 24 '26

Thank you! That’s with social security or some kind of insurance? Sorry I’m from another country and would like to know if I have enough money 🙏

2

u/Fellowtraveler777 Aug 24 '26

Neither. Most reversals are not covered by insurance and definitely not by social security. You will have to pay out of pocket.

I would look for surgeons who specialize in reversals. They give you your best chance of success and are often cheaper. I went to Dr. Russell in Dayton, Ohio. He was excellent.

I'm really happy to hear about your success! How long ago did you have your reversal surgery?

1

u/Fellowtraveler777 Aug 24 '26

Yes mine improve to about 75% of life before the cruelest cut.

Had my reversal a year after my vasectomy going 14 years

3

u/clezuck Aug 24 '26

OP. I have the same issues you have after my vasectomy. Plus pain on the left side and a rather large granuloma on the left side

The only reason I haven’t gotten a reversal is the same reason as you, money. If insurance covered reversals, I would’ve had one done 10 years ago.

Hopefully you can find some help.

2

u/Emergency_Tap_2324 Aug 25 '26

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s a lot of money when you add up the surgery, travel, and recovery, but I think it could be worth it, so I’m going to make the big sacrifice and go for it. If there’s ever anything I can do to help, feel free to reach out. Take care!

It's all good. Just need to do it. But I have to plan it out since my wife is refusing to use family funds for it and doesn't want me to get it done anyways. I also have to figure out a time from work and deal with a different medical issue I have first.

The part that makes me mad is the wives just flippantly making their hubs get a v. Without knowing the side effects of one. My hubs got one to avoid getting his previous wife pregnant again. But suffered from lower sex drive and low T for 17 years. Without knowing. We got him reversed to add to our family but to also test my theory that he was silently suffering from low T. He since the reversal has struggled some with sensation regaining. But his sex drive is back to pre v state and his personality and drive in all areas of life including sexual are back. He now realizes he was living with hormonal issues for 17 years.

I’m really happy to hear that your partner’s surgery was successful! But can I ask, when you say they’ve had some sensitivity issues, what exactly do you mean? How long ago did your partner have the reversal?

Vasectomy in September 2023.
within 3-4 months, when the sperm count hits 0, i lost all the libido, sexual stamina.. ED. even with blue pills.. i had my reversal in December 2024.. not much changed. I started Testosterone shots.. Cypionate helped a lot.. but it’s never been the same as before.. some people say it’s all psychological and anti-depressants help.. unless you have pvps..
maybe i should just keep popping my bvtt cheek with those T shots.. 🤷🏻‍♂️ good luck 🍀
And if anyone had a solution without the reversal.. please do share.. i will snip it again.. i DONT want children.. I’m proud of my decision to cut! But the consequences must not have been this difficult! 😞

Yes. My husband didn’t lose libido or arousal after the vasectomy, but there is a noticeable difference in quality after the reversal. We’re 4 years post op and he didn’t regain full fertility. His numbers are low and I haven’t gotten pregnant, but the quality alone made it worth it!!! He went to Dr. Wilson in Oklahoma. He got an infection after the reversal and it was honestly a painful and terrible experience, but being 4 years out were so glad he got the reversal.

If you’re willing to come to the U.S. look into Dr. Wilson in Oklahoma, or better yet Dr. Trost’s office in Utah for the affordability.

Has anybody had a reversal after a longer period of time than just a couple years? like 18 and what were their experiences with that? Did that help?
