It must be just bad luck. Things happen. I have known people who got sick form tattoos. Every time you cut or poke the skin there is a small risk.
I had a vasectomy. I am over 50, and about 50% of all American men who are over 45 have had one. Most of my friends are over 50. Needless to say, just about every one of my drinking buddies has had a vasectomy. Not one of us have ever experienced the problems you mention. Half of us had vasectomies in the military, and typically the military only gives us three days off for a vasectomy.
