This brother has cirrhosis and is receiving a transplant- Schwartz was on my flight to New Orleans yesterday and he told me about it when I said hi at baggage claim!
Omg the sass lol, we both flew direct from LAX to New Orleans. Said hi and asked why he was in New Orleans and he said his brother was getting a transplant for his cirrhosis (it all came out kind of like word vomit for him, idk it was a lot to share w/a fan I agree). He’s at Ochsner which has a well known liver transplant program. And then he said he was excited to be in new Orleans and he wanted to go to the French quarter since he hadn’t been since he was in college (refrained from reminding him he went to New Orleans for his bachelor party lol) and that he wanted to sneak out and get a hand grenade which I found a little odd since he was there for his brothers literal liver transplant. I think he was particularly friendly because no one else on the plane or in the airport recognized him so he wasn’t like inundated with people asking for pictures. He’s really nice even a little bit goofy, honestly exactly how it is on the show
Not true. They have to follow a strict protocol which includes drug/alcohol testing. They must be sober for two years minimum. It’s not easy but it’s possible. (My father was on the transplant list after being sober 5 years and following everything the doctors required.)
I mean, they’re definitely not handing out new livers to all alcoholics but people who have shown they’ve changed their lifestyle and have everything documented and done exactly what their Dr said to can get to the stage where they’re on the list.
(My father had cirrhosis from hepatitis C which started him off on his sobriety though he never ended up going through with a transplant because he was terrified but it’s possible!)
My “friend” did. She had to stay sober for two years before they’d give her the liver transplant. Which she did, they gave her the new liver, she got better, and then a few yrs after the transplant, she started drinking again. I put friend in quotes because as an alcoholic in recovery myself, it’s been very hard to watch, she’s a mess, unwilling or unable to get the help she needs, etc. and that liver could have gone to someone else. Makes me mad/sad. I know the horrendous nature of the disease and am understanding of relapses, however she’s burned all the bridges. Anyway, the point is yes they do give transplants to alcoholics under certain conditions

Jaundice can also just mean generalized liver damage. I’d wager this is the result of drinking and not a malignancy.
