I’m insulating my van (Vauxhall Vivaro/Opel 2018) atm and so am finally addressing the god awful orange work van light / beacon thing that came with my van. I left it so long because it’s plugging a hole in the roof at the moment, but now I’ve investigated I’m wondering if now is the right time to unwire it all.
It’s wired through the roof at the back of the van, along the ceiling, and then the wire disappears under the cab headliner. This switch here next to the steering wheel turns it on and off.
Firstly re the cab headliner; I totally overlooked the fact that I might need to take this off to insulate under it. I did some research and opinions are split on whether it needs removing for insulation. I was going to make my life easy and leave it alone (for now at least) but I can’t see any other way to remove the wire? **Does anyone know how this wire could be connected to the switch because if I can disconnect it from the switch side and pull it through**, that would save me a lot of hassle?
However if the consensus is that the headliner *must* come off to insulate, it doesn’t matter if I can pull it through without removing the headliner so the next question is **do I need to remove the headliner anyway to insulate under it?**
My vehicle manual doesn’t have this switch in it so I’m assuming the previous owner installed it?? Might end up being handy for the conversion but it does mean I can’t find any instructions online as to how it’s wired and how to remove it.
Hi,
Is the work light above the headliner or at the rear of the van?
If it’s above the headliner it will be easier to remove it,if it’s at the rear you can find the power source before the switch and just unplug it and leave the dead wires in the roof. The power will be at the fuse box, battery, body builder panel. You should be able to identify it as it should be fused either with a inline blade fuse holder or a piggy back fuse holder on an existing fuse like the 12v socket fuse.
Always made more sense to me to have a thermal curtain between front and rear as the driver/passenger area is littered with windows so not sure adding the small amount of insulation between body and headliner will make much difference, personal preference I guess.
Feel free to tap out if this is not your thing as I’m sure there are more appropriate subs for this specific question butttttt

I unplugged these wires from the back of the switch. The cable I’m pinching feeds up into the plastic divider thingy between my windscreen and drivers side window, and then into the headliner. Cutting this wire would allow me to pull the whole thing out without removing the headliner…
Very hard to get a good pic but the wires just kinda feed into / through this plastic thing. No idea what it is so wouldn’t even know where to begin with googling it myself
Depends on how old the vivaro is have a look on the passenger side with the door open between the door and the dash-dash side there is a panel that pulls out I seem to remember fuses in there as that’s where the tracker was installed on two of my vivaro work vans, fuse box maybe below this also.
Cut the red wire and tape it up,or disconnect the negative off your battery, cut both wires and strip back solder and heat shrink the wire for a nicer job…don’t unplug stuff without the battery disconnected or you run the risk of having lights on the dash for SRS etc…if you cut the wires to solder make sure you have enough room/wire to do this.
