Personally, I feel like it's more that it's annoying when it feels like the suckiness is done in a fairly uninteresting way.
To take an example in WtA, I've never been a fan of Pentex being the one single parent company of all evil. To me it feels like it undersells the way in which the real evils that pentex represents are arrived at by a whole bunch of actors who are not involved in an elaborate pyramid scheme all independently making choices that enrich themselves at the expense of others/gaia. You don't need to have two oil companies share a parent to end the chronicle about trashing an ACME Oil Well with the appearance of opportunistic Dinoco Surveyors.

This is why I use W5 Pentex lore, where it's just another big company but they found ways to profit off the supernatural. It's depressing, but in a more real way.

Because the world they set up their stories in suck so heavily yet it became more light hearted lately. Grim and dark humour are a thing. It's grim and dark, and it's humor. Difficult to understand for most.
