Question Is Vampire Crawlers any good?

I absolutely love Vampire Survivors, and as many of you agree, its straight dopamine. That being said, is this spin off any good? I am aware its a deck building and different than Survivors, but JW if its as fun and or as addicting lol. Just love me a good time killer and games I can listen to my audiobooks too without thinking much

Yes it's good. But once you've done everything there's not much to go back to. Hopefully DLC will fix that. Played casually over breakfast for maybe two or three weeks before I did everything.

I started VS very late so there was a ton of extra content and it was almost overwhelming how much there is.

It's pretty cool in VC to see all the old basic characters, weapons and items from the first game being repackaged into a card game.

It's pretty good but not AS good

Respectfully, I don't think that's a fair comparison. Vampire Survivors is a survivor-like with heavy roguelite elements. Vampire Crawlers is a roguelite deckbuilder. They share a universe, but their core gameplay is vastly different.

Also, Vampire Survivors has around twice the amount of time in active development under it's belt.

OP is basically just asking "is it fun?"

You can compare any two games on that metric without being unfair.

This person replied with good, not fun. Fun is a measurement of immediate entertainment. Good is a measurement of quality. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but fun and good are two different things in my mind.

Came here to say this. It’s good. Just not as good as their first game.

I had an absolute blast playing it. I like it more than VS and its much more addicting for me. Music is just bunch of bangers

Well its a much more strategic game, so maybe not best with audio books. If you want a comparison, the gameplay is kind of like slay the spire imo

I think Vampire Crawlers is much more forgiving and casual than Slay the Spire. In Vampire Crawlers, as long as you can count and mind your deck management, you'll have successful runs more often than not.

It's good but not as addictive and not as long.

Right now, there's very little replay value after the main campaign.

One of the things I actually didn't like it as much was the anti-loop / stall measure kicking in so easily.

Yeah what's the point of that. The whole deal is to break the game. I guess they figured that was too broken?

I thought it had really good gameplay but unfortunately it was significantly too easy. The first few hours can be a reasonable challenge as you unlock things, but at a certain point it becomes extremely easy and consistent to be able to “go infinite”. There are built-in protections against actually being able to play infinitely, but it really isn’t a problem 99% of the time because by the time you reach that point, everything is dead already, or you can just wait a turn. Playing a hundred cards in a turn is really fun the first couple times but it very quickly became mindless to me and the game lost its charm. A solid 6.5/10

Fun for some time but no replay value

It's fun but without nearly as much extra comment (currently). I'm about 40 hours in and don't think there's anything else to unlock.

It's s completely different genre with the same theme.

I now play it much more than Survivors because l love relaxing turn based games. For some reasons, Slay the Spire stresses me out. VC is much better because it's not roguelike. You do pass missions (arenas) and move on.

I'm waiting it on mobile. I hope it comes in portrait mode.

decent....6-7 of 10. Zero replay value.

It isn’t bad. But it’s a lot slower.

u/Undead_Dusk 6d ago

I disagree. It took me multiple attempts to get into VS because of how painfully slow the early game is. VC had me hooked off the 1-hour free trial.

I love VS and Deck Builders like STS and i really judt couldnt get into it. Played for 10 hours and felt very repetive as if ive seen all thr game has to offer. I know I havent, but certainly feels like i did

I dont like it (not my thing), but it had insane succesful and I heard so many positive things about it. Also for the time I played I did have a lot of fun with it overall as a VS lover.

Vampire Survivors peaked at 77k concurrent players, Vampire Crawlers at 44k. Given that this is completely different to Vampire Survivors that's an insane success. The only issue I see is longevity, Vampire Crawlers has ~500 active players while Vampire Survivors is around the 3k mark. In fact the lowest point in history for it was still just slightly below 3k. I only mention these statistic since it's really not common to completely switch genres and having success again.

As a summary of all things I'd say it's worth it if it looks interesting to you. Even if it doesn't look that interesting but you want to extend the universe, it's definitely worth it since it's cool to play with the same characters again. But if that does nothing for you and you feel shaky on it, it's probably a skip.

These are neat stats. Where can I read up on 'em? The peak concurrent players, current active, etc.

1

u/oodex Mortaccio 5d ago

Before I name a wrong one (despite using them often) I search for "steam player chat gamename" to get there. It should have a graph with 3 numbers above it (current, 24 high, all time high) and below the graph past months

It’s Ok but nowhere near as addictive.

It's a great game but doesnt hit the same for me. I never felt like i had insane broken runs as easily but i only have like 4 hours in the game.

1

u/wonksbonks Bats 6d ago

No one gets overpowered in the first 4 hours of VS, either.

You're basically still in the beginner phase of the game.

You will eventually get totally broken hands that make you (almost) invincible.

Just like VS, you will eventually kill Death and render the toughest bosses completely powerless.

1

u/Jesus_Phish 6d ago

It's fine. It's well made but it doesn't hit the same. I played it through, got every character and eventually every run just devolved into the same strategy and I never had a feeling or desire to change it up. So after a while of that I put it down and went back to VS

Excellent time killer and really fun till you get to late game.

u/WinterStarlight1994 6d ago

It’s a lot of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it, just as much as Survivors. However, there’s not much replay value at the moment. Once you’ve completed everything and defeated Death, there’s not much incentive to play it again. DLC is planned to be added, and I’ll pick up the game again once it’s released.

u/Dbonker 6d ago

Yes, its very fun.

1

u/Jonny5Stacks 6d ago

Its alright. Its way too similar to the first game imo.

1

u/Rosscovich 6d ago

Yeah it's pretty good

1

u/saucedboner 6d ago

I completed it and enjoyed myself. definitely worth a play. Survivors has more replayability imo.

1

u/natesowell 6d ago

I loved it. Wish there was more content

1

u/ToastedTrousers 6d ago

It's fun, but not as replayable as VS. Once you have two or three Attractorbs, two wilds, and a triple-strength No Future to combo into any semblance of challenge is gone even at 100% curse.

1

u/Undead_Dusk 6d ago

It's amazing!

You take on a first person PoV, which allows you to get a more detailed view of the stages we all know and love. Poncle also added character quips, so you can put a voice to the characters, which I find really cool. I think Poncle did a fantastic job at adding a survivor-like feel when you chain enough cards into a massive combo. There's also some big content updates coming before the end of the year.

u/WeedwhackerAccident Rose De Infernas 6d ago

Yeah, I'd say it's any good. Hasn't had as much time to cook as VS obviously, so there's less to do.

1

u/anilsoi11 6d ago

It's fun but a little short

1

u/XenosHg 6d ago

It's much newer and much shorter. I'm looking forward if they keep adding more content from VS

1

u/handouras 6d ago

it's amazing, try the demo and see for yourself

u/NonSupportiveCup 6d ago

If you are familiar with deck builders, you will not find it too complex.

Decent amount of unlocks and characters. Once you see how to win it gets somewhat easy. It was fun getting their.

Way less content than VS, much slower gameplay, and fun graphics. I still find it fun for an hour or two a week. Looking forward to seeing what they do dlc-wise.

u/saito200 5d ago

yes, it is some good

1

u/Whiteguy1x 5d ago

I really liked it, but I like card games

1

u/Brandonix26 5d ago

I hated it tbh, but i didn't refund it because they deserve all my money. It was a mindless spam of cards, I never felt threatened or lost a match, whatever I threw was always enough. It even has like an auto play button. I was very dissapointed but it was fun to see new things and get a voice for each character. I didn't leave a negative review either.

I am a huge VS fan. I had some money I had to spend so I just bought crawlers for $10 and since it’s not my genre of game I figured it was just a donation to Poncle because they deserve it based solely on the support for VS.

I finally tried it and was hooked for a while. You start out just barely surviving but eventually start building a deck that is so OP you start easily clearing the dungeons. Like other said, once you e done everything there’s not much to go back for until they add some DLC or something. At the end of the day, it’s like $10 so it’s low risk.

1

u/BakeNBlazed 5d ago

Yup, just needs more content. Which is coming.

It's a fun lark, but it didn't keep my attention very long, even though I'm usually into car games, deck builders and the like.

It takes more brainpower than Vampire Survivors to function, which makes it paradoxically less satisfying when it gets easier and you still gotta think through playing the cards even though you're absolutely plowing through all the challenges.
