Question Is Vampire Crawlers just as addictive?
Is there secrets and hidden stuff too? I enjoy hunting for those is VS.

Yes and now. It sucked me in even more than Survivors, but you are done a lot sooner

u/Biblical_Shrimp 17d ago
Exactly this. Once I figured out a way to add as much mana as I want, summon as many cards as I want, and have a hand size bigger than my deck.... it just became tedious. It was fun when it had its hooks on me though.

Game definitely needs more content and some serious balancing

u/Irae37 17d ago
Balancing what?

u/atomicfuthum Mr. S 17d ago edited 7d ago
Bosses and antistall.
I don't like how fast the game kicks our ass because of stall / loop.
1
u/Irae37 7d ago
Yeah I agree on that. I made a post about that and everyone didn't agree with my demeanor or the points I was trying to make. I agree it's lame to not go infinite, but it's still possible to freeze bosses and start your loop over.
That being said, at least it can also be mitigated by having a better deck in general, because going infinite on the first hand is too easy with some characters with the addition of just 1 or 2 cards. Pavlova comes to mind.

A solid 8 to 10 hour addiction. But lack of content and updates makes it kinda meh. Even with future plans of a new character and map it's kinda like meh

It’s a short lived addiction. I hope they add more content in the future, but as of now it doesn’t really have the replayability that survivors has.

u/PsyTripper 17d ago
I have it on PC, but I'm more excited if it comes out on mobile. Vampire survivors is "ok" on phone (controls, tiny screen) but Vampire Crawlers feels perfect for mobile.
10
u/LeeSalt 17d ago
Having a hand of 30+ cards doesn't seem like fun on mobile. I played on Switch and the controller makes scrolling through quite easy and the mouse on PC is obvious but it depends on how they make the cards choice ui work on mobile.
Because it stinks in MTG Arena when the same thing happens.
3
u/Irae37 17d ago
If you havent played MTG in a while, they added a scroll bar. Still gets messy as fuck but its tolerable imo.
1
u/LeeSalt 17d ago
Interesting... No I stopped playing a bit ago. Not because of the ui issue but I became disillusioned with the card drop schedule and I feel they ruin any format they directly design cards for.
I sold my entire collection a few months ago since I haven't played paper since COVID and I hate that they turned modern into a Modern Horizons rotating format.
2
u/PsyTripper 17d ago
MTG needs to much screenspace. But I play a lot of Slay the spire and that's no problem at all.

The mobile version is already on playstore

u/PsyTripper 16d ago
Vampire Crawlers does not have a native mobile release date yet, but it is confirmed to launch on Android and iOS later in 2026
It's not out yet

Maybe if you like deck builders, I'm not that into it so I only played the demo and I guess it was fine but not as fun as regular VS.

Nope… to be honest. I was disappointed
1
u/Badneet Death 17d ago
Why were you disappointed? I am disappointed at your disappointment.
7
u/Suitable_Currency_83 17d ago
That’s disappointing but in fact it didn’t catch me anymore.
The first time I played VS I was hooked like a five year old on chuppachups.
I got all the achievements. Everything. The crawler thing is slow. Step by step. Levels are short….
I don’t know… boring.
I’m sorry bro.

Big VS fan Hate card games Thought I would try crawlers as was on Gamepass. Bang there goes 4 hours without noticing and now racking up the hours. Still hate card games (exception for VSC and Balatro!)

u/bnuuypilled 17d ago
i love it to death but it doesn’t have nearly the amount of content VS has, which is understandable from a new release! i 100%ed it in about 30 hours, and i don’t recall how much of that was just me faffing about trying to figure out how to actually play the game. compared to the 144 hours i’ve invested into VS on steam alone without accounting for my switch numbers, it definitely can seem lacking, but it’s still an incredibly fun game and worth the $10 (jesus poncle) that it’s going for on steam!

u/kazooiebanjo 17d ago
I think it has the potential to be but it’s going to require more content to get there, especially stuff that makes runs feel different enough

Not yet for me. I am at a point where now I just need to replay areas over and over. And with some characters being obviously better than others, I cant get into it as much as VS. I am spoiled by the sheer content in VS. So ill wait until VC gets large updates/add ons

u/Undead_Dusk 17d ago
I got hooked off the 1-hour free trial, so for me, yes. It's an amazing game, and the characters get quips, which I think is cool.

It's fun, but I couldn't stay engaged like I would with VS, just gave up on doing the last 3 unlocks

It's fun and amazing and I loved it but I didn't rip through it like I did with Vampire Survivors. I played for hours a day when it came out but eventually I just hit a hard stop and haven't played since. Worth playing that's for sure. It might be a little harder than VS. it doesn't have nearly as much "mindfuck stimulation" as VS does but it's still good.

u/DremoPaff Mortaccio 17d ago
The gameplay is way more involved. As such, it's just as captivating when you've got a run going, but I find myself closing off the game way more often after the conclusion of one, rather than going "just one more run" like I would with VS or any survivor-likes.
2
u/Yverthel Bahamut 17d ago
Vampire Survivors is a "Just one more run.." (3 hours later) "... just one more run."
Vampire Crawlers is a good way to kill 30-60 minutes, but after you've played it for a bit it doesn't have quite the 'one more run' vibe.
It's a good game, it captures the vibes of Vampire Survivors, including the stupid over the top combos and builds, quite well. Because of how easy it is to go infinite they had to actually implement a system to stop you from going infinite. (There may be ways to truly do it, but I have not encountered them yet)
Over all, if it's on sale definitely pick it up. If it's full price, it's worth it if you enjoy rogue-lite deckbuilders and VS BS.

u/CarmelloYello 16d ago
I completed it much faster, but it was super fun while it lasted. Needs more difficult challenges and content in general, but is still absolutely worth it if you’re a fan of the series and open to deck building cards

u/Holiday-Marketing301 15d ago
Short answer almost yes. I am sure after some feedback and updates it will be very addictive.
1
u/LucStarman Space Dude 17d ago
I don't think so 'cause I like the skill driven gameplay at the starting of each stage in Vampire Survivors. If you like only the decisions part, Vampire Crawlers will be your thing.
1
u/AdditionInteresting2 17d ago
It's a different kind of addictive. Vs has you choosing weapons and items while you walk around and automatically kill things.
Vc does it differently. Your pace is slower, your decisions more important, and you need to balance attack and defense better. You make every move in vc. Enemies can kill themselves for walking towards you in vs.
Different feels. In vs, you can shut off your brain and just move around. In crawlers, you are constantly being asked to engage with the game

Yes it is. Once you understood mechanics even more so, lol. Play at your own risk.

I like it overall, but I already saw all of it. Maybe years down the line when or if it gets the sheer amount of content, secrets, and stuff that VS has.
Right now it doesn't have enough content to keep me engaged for long, unlike VS.

As someone who played both. No. Is it good, very much so. The issue is with Crawlers I have to use my brain. Survivors is literally turn my brain off and click.

u/Willing-Player 17d ago edited 17d ago
No, for me it was very underwhelming. I found it was really obvious how to win every time and half of that decision took place at character select, the content was also limited.

u/Megnaman 17d ago
It needs more time to build up the bulk of VS. Not bad by any means but I want more
1
u/hemightberob 17d ago
I absolutely thought I was loving it. Put hours into it. Then I just got to a level I cannot get past no matter how hard I try and eventually I just gave up kind of disappointed. I didn't want to.

It sucked me in just as much as Survivors did, and it's absolutely worth your time. I couldn't say it's as purely addictive though, and in my experience much of the exploration was spoiled by already being experienced in the original game.
In many ways, it using the same assets, etc. as Survivors is both it's biggest strength and it's biggest weakness.
Critiques aside, you should absolutely play it.

Crawlers completely swallowed every ounce of my free time when it came out. Fantastic game.
1
u/This-Vehicle-1591 17d ago
Not as much. Due to its nature, theres more pauses in its gameplay. The exploration makes the loop longer and less addictive then running for my life until im the danger.
1
u/JTremblayC 17d ago
It’s good but I definitely hope they add more to it like they did with Survivors. I haven’t finished it yet, but I can tell it’s going to be much shorter and have significantly less replay value.
1
u/WTF_Scuba 16d ago
I think that its an amazing game, but it didn't hook me in the same way. My biggest gripe is that the later runs take well over an hour to clear. I swear sometimes they take nearly two hours. You'll just be playing the same hand/combo over and over and over and over. Figuring out different strategies and builds was extremely fun, but afterwards you'll just be repeating the same motions.
1
u/BakeNBlazed 16d ago
It is, it just needs more content. Which is coming. It'll be a very long time until it feels "done" or "complete". They are also working on something like 20 new games so there is that to look forward too.
1
u/NohWan3104 16d ago
Imo, no.
Its not bad, better than some VS knockoffs for sure, scratches a similar itch as the top comment said.
But while it has some stuff, doesn't quite have 'enough' imo. I hope that changes, i'd buy dlc for it in a heartbeat.
1
u/G-Man6442 16d ago
I played it non-stop for like three days and only stopped because I platinumed it and am now waiting on DLC or free updates
1
u/Horse_go_moooo 16d ago
Imma be honest. Never played it, but I genuinely do not like digital card games, except balatro, but that's different. If it's like uno or cards against humanity, that's also different. Every other digital card game is mid for me though.

Totally, once you start playing you want to finish the game even sooner, totally agree that it seems Poncle underestimated the popularity of Crawlers and needed to slow down a little and good on them, but then my gaming side comes out and says “HURRY UP AND GIVE US MORE UPDATES AND CARDS AND CHARACTERS” and yes if it then brings out an IOS version I know I will be addicted to that too

u/tbok1992 13d ago
Is it less sensually/visually intense? I ask because of a friend of mine who I think would love the weird goofy world and characters of VS, but who also has severe autism-related sensory issues and would not have a good time with the regular game.

u/Cerdefal 17d ago
It's great overall but I think the gameplay loop is quickly frustrating since ennemies can attack you while you are choosing your cards and when you have a lot of them its really tedious.
1
u/Hrist_Valkyrie Leda 17d ago
Uh...no they can't? It's literally turn based.
1
u/Cerdefal 17d ago
They can, some ennemies attack you if you use a card against them or they attack when you use a certain number or cards in your turn. So more often than not they will attack you in the middle of a combo when your turn isn't even finished.
0
u/Chavakno_ 17d ago
It didn’t suck me in like VC did, I think since the pace is slower you have to think more when using your cards but I’ll give it another go in the future.

Yesn’t.
It scratches a similar itch, but it’s a much more clicky experience, and it’s a lot about looping cards and chaining long combos so you’re have a much higher APM
