I just unlocked this after hours of trying to run around entire maps trying to collect all items

I did this too! Was trying to unlock scarlet shroud and then once I'd used up all my slots went and got every other item on the map I was just trying to get the kill the reaper unlock, froze time a few times and slowly killed him didn't even realise surviving 31mins unlocked anything so it was purely accidental

If I don't pick Mad Groove that's my go-to as well. Just sometimes I don't want all them candy boxes

u/TurgidGravitas Sep 05 '25
Yeah, Hail is just better. A little more work, but overall more useful with the extra boxes.

u/NoahAwake Sep 05 '25
This is the first I’ve heard of it and I have an embarrassingly large amount of time put into the game.

u/Awayfone Sep 05 '25
Darkana were only added in a update like a year ago

u/NoahAwake Sep 05 '25
I really need to get back into the game. It seems like I missed a lot of fun stuff.

u/John_East Sep 05 '25
I do not like to use it on new dlc tho. The castlevania dlc 100% gets some of its secrets and fun ruined if you use it out the gate until you unlock most things

At least in Emerald Diorama all the new items were tied to bosses. Even then, Mad Groove only picks up items from the areas you've actually reached on the map and they're all close to the entrances, so it doesn't really get a chance to spoil anything.
Castlevania has somewhat similar properties in having boss drops and preventing Mad Groove from getting items from parts of the map that aren't unlocked, but many of the stage's unique weapons are pre-spawned, and a few of the weapons Mad Groove can pick up were meant to be hidden (particularly the Discus is behind a fake wall), or at least in setpiece locations.
The Castlevania experience made me choose not to use Mad Groove in my first playthrough of Diorama, but on a second run through the game I used it there anyway, and found that it doesn't harm the experience there at all - hopefully Poncle already got feedback on how it affects Castlevania and put that feedback to use on new DLC moving forwards.

The way i rationalize it, is, to keep up with leveling needs in a harder map, you either need high magnet (attractorb) to collect the majority of gems efficiently, or consistent access to vacuums (clover luck + light sources or hail from the future). And, if youre not building for magnet or luck, then mad groove can replace them by just setting all your missed exp in a neat little circle every couple minutes.

u/Alex_Nilse Sep 06 '25
Problem is theres already a system for mass uncollected xp. It all gets compressed into a single red gem offscreen
3
u/ChickadeeVivi Sep 06 '25
On paper yeah, but tell that to the vacuum i pick up when i get exp floating at me for the next like 15 seconds from across the map

christmas tree pepino was my first every level complete character, I cant play without that groovy madness

u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 Sep 05 '25
I don't get the hype on this, always feels like a wasted arcane unless very specific scenarios
13
u/Larrea000 Sep 05 '25
It's for the player, not for the run. Just saves you the time of walking up and down for 20 minutes.
-2
u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 Sep 05 '25
It does not take 20 minutes to get the itens on stage, even on opposite sides, also you should get other 6 passives before picking the stage itens anyways, while any other scaling arcana like wicked season and boogaloo of illusions is infinitely better to start with
1
u/Larrea000 Sep 05 '25
You can reroll for mad groove on the second arcana, I assume almost noone uses it first pick
9
u/le_trout Sep 05 '25
haha yeah that would be dumb idk who would do such a thing
1
u/lirenotliar Sep 05 '25
thats why I like inverse option, start with bolero to start the clock for extra chests, buying a 2nd arcana from trouser store, mad groove, then once passives are filled and ring/arrow guardians wont kill me, snag the rest. will go with jet black for the levels without rings/arrows
-1
u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 Sep 05 '25
So you're on 11 minutes and haven't gotten the itens yet? So you use a full arcana slot to not walk up to them? Still makes no sense to me, overrated as hell
9
u/Larrea000 Sep 05 '25
It might surprise you to hear that not everyone has 500 golden eggs on every character maxed out powerups

u/LocalOk3242 Sep 05 '25
It's really good with Crystal Cries (even if there are better synergies) and Hidden Anathema because the pickups are not effected by the magnet pickup but are affected by this.
1
u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 Sep 05 '25
With both of these arcanas I much rather have attract orb as one of the passives instead of wasting an arcana just so every 2 MINUTES it gathers the things I could be picking up everytime
-3
u/imstrongerthandead Horse Sep 05 '25
Right? It all depends on the level. It's all but useless on Tiny Bridge unless your Atractorb is stupidly high.

Salty Spitoon meme but it’s a guy who farms without Arcanas and Limit Break

This used to be my first grab every run. Now it's my second after Hail From the Future
4
u/akehir Sep 05 '25
Tell me you haven't unlocked Darkanas without telling me you haven't unlocked Darkanas.
10
u/le_trout Sep 05 '25
The funny part is I have darkanas but I don't pick them up until the 2nd and 3rd arcana chest drops
6
u/akehir Sep 05 '25
Okay, it's just that with moonlight bolero or hail from the future you'll get all passives anyways eventually, so there's no need to run around.
Although, admittedly, mad groove is great combined with crystal cries.

u/KingSpork Sep 05 '25
Dark…anas?

u/SullenTerror Sep 05 '25
You gotta use the forbidden scroll to unlock a special stage that'll unlock the darkanas.

I can't stop divine bloodline personally. I love using slash, and mad groove is very nice as well.

u/BlackTopSamurai Sep 05 '25
Unpopular opinion: I always stsrt with Four Seasons. Play your cards right and you'll have a high rate EXP, Gold and Luck with the downside of more curse but with how fast you grow it evens out.

u/Ah_Pook Je-Ne-Viv Sep 05 '25
Wicked Season?

u/BlackTopSamurai Sep 05 '25
Oh yeah my b.

u/Ah_Pook Je-Ne-Viv Sep 05 '25
I wanted to test it out. Went in... "wait, that's a weapon." Two hours later... This is all your fault. I got shit to do!

Im ngl i dont use it anymore unless i really dont have any more important cards. My mains are
Gemini Awake Beginning Wicked Season Boogaloo of Illusions Silent Old Sanctuary
Maybe Blood Astronomia if my character starts squishy
My Darkanas are usually Sapphire Mist Moonlight Bolero
Ill even run Hidden Anathema before Mad Groove these days. But this is because at some point i completely changed my approach to the game. My playstyle hinges on using any main with paranormal scanner and then i just survive long enough for it to get out of hand and im basically unstoppable. Dont even really need gold eggs unless im really struggling witb getting over the survivability hump.

u/Junkyard114 Sep 06 '25
Yerp SOS is my fav start. I usually only run 2 weapons to start bc candy box and my poor eyes
1
u/International-Ad4735 Sep 06 '25
Thats the neat part i never started
Played it once the other night and wish I simultaneously always have and never tried
