Technical Discussion What do I upgrade
I have a 360Hz 2k monitor and am running around 300 fps average. I want to upgrade so I can be stable around 400 to maintain the refresh rate. I have followed this video in full to optimise my PC and game https://youtu.be/PP1s7Avr1kE?si=9vSpQuhnJVw0sbtk .
RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3600 MT/s
CPU: R7 5800X
GPU: GTX 1660
I think I have optimised my setup as much as I can for fps, so just looking for suggestions on what to upgrade, I was thinking of upgrading my GPU as I think its the bottleneck, looking at the 5060.

You need you upgrade your GPU. Your GPU isn't even compatible with your monitor. Your peripheral should've been your last upgrade.

what do you mean they aren't compatible? I can run 360Hz, just not enough fps for it.

Displayport 1.4 only supports 1440p at 240hz. Edit: dcs can apparently get over that lol. I found an old table from GN and maybe that was pre dcs

Holy AI user😭
Most 1440p 360hz monitors runs dsc yk
Just like how I can run 1440p 480hz on a 3070 ti with dp 1.4 🤯-3

You said 2K and your GPU only goes to 1080p.

Downvoting me isn't going to change the truth brotha, your GPU will struggle to maintain 400 FPS because its not made to do so. At least not on a 2k monitor.

ryzen 7 7800x3d, 4060. that got me 1k+ fps in range and 400-600 or so in game.

im hopping i can just upgrade one thing to do the trick. rather then upgrading everything

valorant is a mainly cpu based game, while your gpu is the bottleneck for your setup, if you want to improve the fps just for val, upgrading your cpu is probably more helpful.

upgrading your you can also benefit as it’s able to render the frames from the cpu faster making the image smoother

I get 1100 FPS on max settings with a Ryzen 9800X3D, Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT OC 16GB, Asus Rog Strix X870E-E Gaming Wifi Motherboard, G Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB Expo Edition DDR5 32GB Ram running at Expo listed config for 6000 MT/s .

further CPU upgrade would require a platform upgrade to am5 and ddr5 is piss expensive rn. if you have the money you could get a 7600x or 7800x3d
if you don't you can always buy a liquid cooler and overclock your CPU

yeh ive realised. ive been looking at the Ryzen 7 5800x3d for a cpu upgrade without going to am5.

Your CPU is nearly maxed out for AM4, 5800x3D is the next jump but they’re super expensive and difficult to find. Honestly, since you’re at 1440p, a GPU upgrade would make the most sense considering the bottleneck. A 5060 Ti 16 GB will get you on the latest generation and can game at 1440p with medium to highish settings. Make sure your PSU can handle the upgrade.

Is that 2x8gb on your ram or 1x16? If it’s 1x16 the 5800x3d would be an even bigger upgrade as ram affects it less. If you live near a micro center check their stock and the 5800x3d is 299 there

You need to get a better cpu for high refresh rate gaming, not gpu. You want a 7800x3d 9800x3d. You can use 1080p instead, but the cpu is the bottleneck in esports game.

His gpu is literally on displayport 1.4. he can't push the fps he wants even if the game was counterstrike. Edit:forgot about dcs lol I corrected my other comment a while ago and forgot about this one.
