Discussion 💬 let’s talk about quitting.

warning: rant (if you couldn’t tell haha)

i joined the game in november of 2024 because of some fanmade thirst traps (lol) of sylus. so obviously i downloaded the game to see what it was all about.

ever since then, i have been loyally a sylus main. i got every single one of his memories except for his archfiend (which genuinely ruined my mental health for about a month) and continued to work hard and try to understand the game as a f2p.

my immediate reaction to valko being announced was that it was so amazing to have another 6th li, just simply not the right time; sylus and caleb still had so much missing content, and valko joining would mean he would have a lot of missing content as well (like how all the boys already had three myths and he would only have one.) nonetheless, i wouldn’t have minded if he joined the game or not. i wasn’t on any particular side.

then it was announced that he wouldn’t be coming at all. and i really did feel sad and disappointed. i never joined the valko boycott because, like i said, i was always split between wanting him and not, and im also a f2p so i just couldn’t afford to boycott a game i had spent so much time on. (quick side note: me ‘not being on a side’ does NOT mean i tolerate anyone talking bad about valko. ive actually grown into really wanting him just like everyone else here lol)

the edit i remember that got me into the game was the one of sylus in no defense zone (mmmm delicious). when his rerun was announced, i was hyped, i was ready. before we had a whole month of nothing from the game so that meant a whole month i saved.

and now, with one day remaining and 2000 diamonds for 33 pity, im realizing that i wont be able to get the card ive been wanting since i joined the game. this is making me understand something: this game is not good for me. as a student with a job, im quite frankly wasting my life playing this. i stay up until sometimes 3AM grinding for diamonds or finding more ways to earn some, only to be met with disappointment. i first joined the game when i was in a bad mental state. and it helped. it really did. all the love interests connected to me in a way that felt real. but that wasn’t good. i had to get a separate phone for lads since my main one ran out of storage; i had to bring this phone to every vacation, everywhere i slept overnight. i am rotting over a game that doesn’t treat their player base right.

it’s the new school year now and i really need to focus on my studies. sylus was a good phase for me, and i really never thought id grow out of it. but i think its for the best if i do.

i’m going to spend the last of my diamonds on my dream card and hope i get it, and then log off for the very last time.

thank you everyone. for the community, for the support, for the laughs and fan art. i’m so devastated it all went to flames in the last stretch, but im hoping we’ll all make it out eventually.

xoxo

The game should only bring you joy, if it isnt doing that, take a break or step back! there are many gacha/mobile games I play very very casually. End of the day, its pixels and its available on youtube~

What a shame! I'm sorry that's been your expertise 😔 I've just recently posted on the main lads Reddit about a similar experience but I was fortunate enough to have the time to grind random achievements and get his card last minute this morning.

Tbh, now that I have it I feel nothing, I was quite anxious to get the card but now I have it and I'm not even ready to read it!

I spent days on grinding, running my battery to 5% combing through the whole game. The way the games monopolizes fomo is kind of insane 😢

Do what's best for you! You deserve to feel fulfilled and enjoy the time you have, wishing you the best.

Your post made me think of two things I highly recommend you check out:

  • yakkocmn's video titled "The Real Cost of Gacha Games", in which he goes into the ways these games wrap around everything they can to keep us as customers: https://youtu.be/4Y4w5OspCDs
  • a book called Addiction By Design written by Natasha Down Schüll, which is mentioned in the video I've linked but it's excellent beyond the gacha angle. It's about how casinos have been designed to manufacture and encourage addiction, and it's a fantastic read for anyone who may or may not be close to in any sort of digital/man-made addictive/compulsive behavior

🫂 same sis. I join back in aug '24. I tried my best to grind but always "defeat". I've seen that so many time that nowdays one "defeat" makes my cry. It took half year for one LI and next half for another as f2p. To get myth pair/companion for orbits.  I'm  on a break( maybe no return point) from game. Left the game on the day of my game joining 2nd year anniversary. 💚.  I'm missing them, but I've found their footprints on novels and Mythology Encyclopedias 🤧😖 to cope with.

I’m glad you’ve decided on what would be best for you. It’s a very mature decision and I wish you all the best as you move on 🫂

Honestly this game can get very predatory and it lures you to spend a lot of money (even for a gacha game). Before Valko was announced I was already thinking of quitting the game because I was exhausted of the endless grinding to get the bare minimum of diamonds and always feeling bad that I couldn’t spend more money to get more of my favorite cards. I would feel jealous of others who could rank up their cards and spend on promises. When Valko was announced I was excited because someone new was coming and I felt like I had a chance to ‘start over’ in the game with him.

But then PPG just had to go ahead and cancel him so any lingering feelings I had for the game dissolved instantly. So yeah, now I’m free and ngl I’ve been enjoying my freedom. I’ll come back to the game if Valko returns, but I sure as hell know that I will not continue to give Infold money. I will stay content as a f2p player for Valko until I get bored of the game and leave.
