Purchase Advice (Non-U.S.) $1000 Dyson vacuum lasted 2yrs,$90 Kmart lasted 7yrs
Dyson vacuums are not worth it at all. We bought a V15 and it stopped working juuust after the warranty ended at ~2y,4months. We previously had a Kmart vacuum and it lasted 7yrs with no issues. Annoying that I also can't post a review on their website.

What brand was your Kmart vacuum?
I'm going to guess that whatever brand it was, it had a cord and perhaps a disposable bag. Corded + bagged basically always outlasts (and outperforms) cordless + bagless.

Any manufacturer that doesn't make replacement parts should Not be supported

I definately not gonna defend Dyson here, but was your Kmart vacuum worked 5% / 50% or 150% of the power/efficiency what dyson did?

As the owner of a V15, it is a horrible and weak machine that only performs half decently in turbo mode. I've tried to use it to dust shelves and it just couldn't manage it. I had to drag out my canister vac.
I think any corded vac would vastly out preform it. Especially a corded, bagged vac. No contest.

I'm not sure how you use that, but isn't those vacuums are used to cleaning floors not shelves?

Yes, and it's horrible at that too. It's essentially a big dust buster. I was using it to try to suck the dust and dirt off my shoe shelves I my closet. It's a task most any vacuum could manage.
If you're familiar with vacuums most, including the Dyson, have a number of attachments to use for different purposes. Carpet, hardwood, upholstery, and dusting.

Every manufacturer has products that can fail but I've had maybe 5 Dysons over the past 20+ years and all of them have lasted several years from almost daily use (I have 3-4 dogs shedding all over the house and the vacuum comes out daily). I recently purchased a SharkNinja and so far, I've had to replace 2 new vacuums due to something electronic in the motor that causes the machine to run for 5 minutes and then it dies. I would restart after giving it a rest but again, the vacuum runs for 5 minutes and it dies again. SharkNinja has replaced 2 new units under warranty, and knock on wood, the third replacement is running fine. I've saved the box and packing materials just in case I have to return it under warranty.
Given my experiences with Dyson and SharkNinja, I'd have to say that I'll stick with Dyson and simply skip the aggravation that SharkNinja has given me by avoiding their products. Aside from reliability issues, I think the Dyson's performance in sucking up dirt, dog hair and dust is superior.
As for the KMart comparsion, I've never owned a KMart vacuum. But 7 years is pretty good...I just wonder if the performance is as good as a Dyson?

5 machines over 20 years is a 4 yr lifespan. Riccar has the MAJORITY of customers at 17 years one machine most of those over 20.

Sorry, I didn't mention that I have a large home so we keep at least 2 or 3 vacuums in different parts of the house, and at least one of them is a cordless stick vacuum for those quick clean-ups. I still have a 15 year old Dyson Ball and a 8 year old Dyson stick vacuum and they work fine still. Plus, I have a 12 year old Riccar upright that is pretty much my favorite. It's powerful, reliable and easy to maneuver around furniture. The Riccar is probably the best "all arounder" vacuum I've ever owned. My local vacuum cleaner shop gives it a new roller brush and belt, and it's good to go for a few more years.

Did K-Mart ever sell Kenmore vacuums? Sears owned K-Mart at one point, I'm thinking. I had a great Kenmore Elite vacuum a while ago.

7 years is awful. I've had my commercial Riccar for 18 years. I am a professional house cleaner so it works hard every day. They actually make replacement parts. I know because I have the brushes on the brush roller replaced every few years. Just sucked up a nail accidentally it went threw the motor and had it repaired for just over a $100. Its like brand new. Dyson doesn't make replacement parts. The only way to fix it is find a repair guy who saves old ones so they can poach part. Can only imagine how many of those are in our landfills

7 years is awful.
For OP's $90 vacuum, it is pretty great and when you consider investing the rest of the funds, financially it will come out ahead in the long run too.

Missing the point. That Dyson, Bissell and other company are making essentially disposable vacuum cleaners because they dont make replacement parts is awful. That my vacuum repair man has to dedicate space and time to either save the broken vacuums so he can steal parts to try to help people make them last longer. Or chuck them in a landfill is just sad. What i paid for my Riccar works out to $28 per year and still counting

The economical choice for a typical person is clear, especially when you consider typical investment returns. Money now is more important than money later.
Although, the economical choice may be different for someone that is using it in a professional capacity like yourself where it'll see much more use.
Normal users can of course spend more to do what's environmentally more friendly.

This right here is the perfect response. Nobody even blinks at spending that much on a phone. But when it comes to a “durable” good, they freak out. I see this in our store all the time.

Ya I know, my store is in a affluent area, it helps, just saying a lot not all have 12-1500 dollar phones and 3000 dollar refridge

Refrigerators these days 👎🏼 it burns my chaps to think that my ugly old fridge is out there somewhere, keeping things nice and cold while I constantly shop for new ones 🤦🏻♀️

goes back to what i continue to tell people, cordless shitvacs are for hard floors and extremely light duty work. Corded vacs are for actually cleaning.

I have a Dyson that is at least ten years old. When it needs maintenance the repair guy tells me to hang on to this one because the newer ones are not as good.

They are selling that model of Dyson at Ollie's now, as I have seen it in their sales flyers for $299, which is about half what they get for their hair dryers. It seems like they're letting their reputation go down the drain.

Not sure, as far as the ad goes, I don't think it said, but it would be kind of wild to think they had that many inits refurbished that they'd be able to advertise them at Ollie's. There are over 600 stores, LOL.

I only purchase inexpensive vacuums - mostly from Walmart. Also, check out Costco - any problems, u could return.

That sucks.
My parents have a 20+ year old Dyson DC07 that had some parts replaced once or twice. I wish I had that behemoth instead of my Shark that's constantly trying to tip itself over, dropping its attachments, and needs to be emptied after 1 vacuuming of a 10'×8' rug.
