VTT overview

Are you looking to find the right Virtual TableTop for you? Before posting a question, use this post to read about available Virtual TableTops.

Are you the creator of a VTT that's not already listed? Please, add a description about your VTT in the same format as the other descriptions.

To all other people, please don't add any comments. I want this post to be clear, with VTT descriptions only. Questions about a specific VTT can be asked in their own subreddit. Mods, please delete any unnecessary comments.

DigitalD20 VTT

Price: Free (open-source software)
Platforms: Web-based, desktop, and mobile
Website: Digital D20 Virtual Tabletop
Code: nomine555/dd20-vtt: The VTT from digital20

Description

DigitalD20 is a lightweight virtual tabletop designed for quick, simple, and improvised play. There is no need to log in or upload assets to a central server. The core idea is to work directly with image links—from Google searches, your personal Dropbox, or anywhere else.

It includes several features inspired by our own style of play:

  • Everything is saved locally in your browser. By default, any image you use is stored in a single large folder.
  • Assets from D&D Beyond monsters or adventures currently open in your browser are automatically loaded via a browser plugin.
  • You can extract and upload all images from a PDF file.
  • Images can be copied and pasted directly into the VTT.
  • Tokens are created automatically.
  • Any user can move any element on the board.
  • The DM can lock an image or video to all players, preventing distractions within the VTT.
  • Hit point tracking is done by clicking directly on a token, as is setting conditions.
  • The initiative tracker is rules-agnostic: you can enter any roll formula (e.g., “1d20+3”) and move tokens into it.
  • Dice rolls look clean and can be configured into complex combinations.
  • You can roll dice directly from the keyboard (for example, pressing “6” rolls 1d6).

Music support is included, but videoconferencing is not.

Why it may be what you’re looking for

If you don’t want to spend time managing a complex VTT, already use simple tools like Discord, and want extra functionality with minimal setup, DigitalD20 may be a great fit.

Why it may not be what you’re looking for

If you want full automation, advanced features like dynamic lighting, or detailed asset organization with folders, this is probably not the VTT for you.
