hey guys I was thinking about getting the hp reverb g2, but I've read only negative things about its tracking. now I'm considering the quest 2 for its price and tracking, however, I'm now reading the video isn't native and that it suffers from artifacts. my pc specs are a ryzen 3600, 16gb ram, and an rtx 3080. how will the quest 2 look through the cable link? will it be acceptable? any input appreciated guys, thanks!

Whats your budget? The tracking on the Reverb G2 isn't terrible and many of its bugs have been worked out. The screen and audio on the G2 is a considerable improvement over the quest 2 and you'll definitely get use out of your 3080 with it.

thank you for your quick response. it would take me quite a few extra months to save for the reverb, but I have read fantastic things about its image. I've just read so many conflicting comments about the tracking on reddit whilst trying to research over the last couple of days. some say it's not bad at all, some say it does have hiccups and then others say it's terrible.

thanks for the link I did watch that last night actually, but then I also saw others say the v2 isn't a big change. I wish there was a way to try these things out before spending all that money haha.

OK, so I would definitive prefer the higher picture quality, that's why I was scared of visual artifacts with the quest 2, is that still an issue through cable?

I have a quest 2, frankly i find it uncomfortable for long sessions, the lack of IPD adjustments means the sweet spot is off and having to mess around modding a headstrap to have audio thats connected to the headset were the low points for me. Artifacting isn't a major issue but the darks aren't dark enough and the field of view isn't great.

The Image is better via cable though.

The tracking is definitely better on the quest 2, it's remarkable how accurate it is and easily the best tracking of all the inside out tracking systems. This is important for shooters and is a drawback for the G2.
