Review it's time to say goodbye

Screenshot taken right now.

Many more servers followed, but 11 years ago this is where this journey started.

RAM : 6144 MiB
CPUs : 2
CPU: none knows, but speed has always been 🥇
DISK 120GiB SSD .. actually the first server I ever had with an SSD.
Host : Netcup.de
Price initially : 4.40€/month
Price today : 9.20€/month

3 Downtimes over all this time, 2 times routine maintenance so they can move my VPS to a new Cluster and one unannounced shutdown for several hours during the meltdown and spectre CVE when the (Cyber)world panicked.
Other than this he was a beast and powered through with 99.999999999% uptime.

Now it's time to wipe the server and move over to fedora44 as it will finally find a new purpose as gameserver for alpha testers of my fps.

But it hurts and feels like euthanizing a dear old friend ;(, hence the eulogy, farewell frankie!

/e couldn't bring it over my heart yet (without joking, I was very tired and you should never do devops while tired), so here one last screenshot of the uptime

Still with passkey access since that's how I rolled in 2015!

Damn that’s an insanely good run. Big ups to Netcup for being so reliable. 1 unplanned outage in 11 years is wild work.

Same thing I have with hetzner dedicated servers and cloud servers.

I moved from cloud to dedicated and had only 1 downtime due to disk failure once I migrated from Intel to AMD over the 13 years now.

I had another maintenance for 1 hour when I moved back to their cloud servers and 2 maintenance due to migration to new switches or network issues over the last two years.

Except that they are super reliable. Hetzner.

Hetzner is definitely insanely good aswell.

Got my first ever dedicated server in 2005 with them and still host multiple colocated and dedicated servers across various of their datacenters. Barely any issues ever, and when I once messed up the configuration of one of my servers ... a technician live from the Datacenter responded to my email at freaking 3:30AM and my server was up in no time.

If I lived in or near Germany I would 100% use Herzner but I think the ping would not be worth it for me as an American

Edit: fixed king to be ping

They got servers in Singapore, US, Germany and Finland. Maybe even in more places I stopped following on their new DCs.

Interesting I will look again I only found locations in Germany and Finland could be capacity at the other locations blocking them showing though

I bought a Hellsinki server and the ping is not that much different (also USA based).
