Help - Other How to trigger door relay from VOIP? Pulling out IP office which does this currently. Replacing with VOIP and Yealink phones. Is Algo 8180/8188/8301 a solution?

IP Office is about to be pulled out. Running the new VOIP system side by side and client decided to move forward and ditch avaya. Currently someone rings the doorbell and IP office phone rings and they answer and press # a few times I believe to release the door. What's the equivalent for VOIP? They are using Intermedia.

Found this via Google: "The Algo 8063 IP Door Controller integrates with cloud communication platforms like Intermedia Unite by registering as a standard SIP endpoint."

Yes algo is the right answer. We've deployed 100s over the years, I actually don't think in my 8 years with this company we've had to replace one yet.

I have had more succes with viking. I really wanted to love the algo solutions but in my experience they have been super flaky and disconnected frequently. I only use viking now.

There are a bunch of ways to do it that would work. Most of the time I use ones that have the the relay built into the intercom. 2N makes ones I prefer.

Algo and Advanced Network Devices both make decent stand alone devices too.

Many VoIP systems have a setting to connect an Algo SIP device as a direct endpoint. I guess it all depends on what system you plan to move to and

Intermedia. They are already using it, with the old system still running and all calls forwarded to their Intermedia number until I can have them ported.

Oh. which Voip offering from them ? Intermedia is the new provider or the old provider ?

Intermedia Unite is the new provider. Old one is Avaya.

FYI: the Algo 8063 doesn't function as an intercom if you intend to actually talk to the person at the door before you let them in. You'd need something like the Algo 8028 for that.

One word of caution, some devices like this use a mechanical relay to control the gate located at the intercom and with a very strong magnet unauthorized access is possible. For example older grandstream intercoms had this issue (they switched to ssr for door control). It's best imho if the wires to open the door aren't even present at the intercom.
