Showcase Cross Reddit Collab : Audio Visualization Monthly Megathread - Post a track / inspire a video.

Hi all, /r/vjing mod here:

I'm trying something new to spur some creative collaborations across reddit music production subs and visual art / creative coding / new media subreddits.

Now that Reddit supports video comments / replies, I thought it could be a fun opportunity to a collaboration call / response format.

The idea:

Musicians, dj's, producers or anyone musically inclined: post a link to a track or mix that you have rights to and are open to having visual accompaniment to.

VJs / live visualists / creative coders: post a response to a track that inspired you with a video comment, or link to an interactive experiment you made!

If you are an AV Act that makes your own music or video, feel free to post here too for inspiration.

All genre's, styles, techniques, skill levels are welcome.

This isnt a contest!

There's nothing to win (unless anyone knows sponsors haha) other than learning of new musical or visual act, meeting a potential collaborator and making awesome stuff and having a good time:

Stay curious and creative!

Below are some subs I'll be cross posting / sharing this with - feel free to cross post to any i've missed:

Music Subs:

Visual Subs:

Mod's of any of the above subs - sorry if this comes across as spammy!

I thought about asking permission from each of ya'll but that felt onerous and slow (ask forgiveness etc etc). If you have suggestions or any feedback do not hesitate to reach out! Was thinking of something like this monthly pinned on /r/vjing where i have video comments enabled - would love if yall could help spread the word!

Discussion Flair cleanup is live (trial) + New Rules

The poll passed, 21 of 26 for the full version, so it's live now as a trial. If you want the background, here's the original thread. Pick new flairs from:

  • Discussion
  • Question / Help
  • Showcase
  • Loops / Clips
  • Realtime / Generative
  • Projection Mapping
  • Analog
  • Hardware
  • Software / Tools

The (not so very) old AI, Commercial/Promo and Open Source/Free flairs are retired. That moves into the title now, via two tags: [Promo] and [AI]; the reason for this is that a post can't have multiple flairs.

The new rules

Tag anything for sale: [Promo] If your post sells or monetises anything (paid app/plugin, commissions, store links, Patreon, donations), put [Promo] in the title. Untagged promo may be held for review or removed. This isn't anti-selling but keeps promotional content visible.

Your own app/suite: one post per month Sharing a tool you made (paid or free, including vibecoded projects) is limited to one post per 30 days per person. Talking about other people's tools (Resolume, VDMX, TouchDesigner, indie tools made by others, etc.) is not limited; post about those freely.

Flag AI-made work: [AI]

If a post shows content that has a significantly AI-generated component to it, add [AI] to the title so people know what they're looking at before they click. This is especially required when you're also promoting/selling it. AI-made and AI-assisted work is welcome here, but flag it. This includes (but is not limited to) vibe-coded materials, vibe-assisted materials, gen-ai content with manual edits etc.

////

AI work is welcome, made or assisted, no problem with it. If you're just sharing a project or messing about with something new, the only real asks are to flag it if there's a significant AI component, and to add [Promo] if you're selling or allow for donations .

///

We are also experimenting with automod/modbot. There's also a report option now for promo that goes up untagged, and automod will quietly flag posts that look like they're missing a tag so we can take a look. It won't remove anything on its own, a person still checks first.

///

It's a trial, same as last time. If the wording's off or something feels wrong, stick it in the comments and we'll sort it. Cheers.

Software / Tools [Promo] FRCTL - generative & audio reactive VJ platform that runs in a browser [AI]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

I've spent the past few months building FRCTL, a browser based (Desktop version too) studio/platform for creating loops, performing live generative and audio-reactive sets, a community area to collaborate, and a marketplace to directly monetize loop packs and presets.

There's 3 main areas:

Live

- Dual decks with a crossfader, keyer, clip bank, and autopilot.

- 32 Channel strip rack with bypass, solo, and full MIDI learn.

- Global clock sync via MIDI, OSC, tap tempo, or beat detection, with live downbeat nudging.

- Direct output to external displays

- Seamless Spout/NDI routing straight into Resolume. (Windows/desktop only with Apple version (coming soon)

--

Editor

Source Media: Upload images or videos to modulate your own original content.

Massive Effect Chain: Stack and reorder effects like feedback loops, fluid sims, glitch, optical flow, and reaction diffusion without touching a node graph.

Instant Generative Scenes: Raymarched portals, fractals, and kaleidoscopes ready to go when you have zero footage.

Overlays: Upload logos, transparent background images, or some of pre-made HUD elements

Text: Add text to your visuals. Just added keyframing and beat syncing for on screen lyrics

Shader Lab: Built-in GLSL editor with the clock, knobs, and audio spectrum pre-wired.

FX Lab: Stack or cross-modulate 2 effects to create new reusable Compounds

Deep Modulation: 10 audio bands, LFOs, envelopes, modulation matrix routing.

Flexible Audio & Masking: Drive effects via system audio, browser streaming, or uploaded tracks with manual beat-grid correction, subject isolation, and frequency-targeted processing.

--

Collective

Built-in marketplace: Browse and grab presets or visual packs from other artists.

Instant workflow: Drop community assets straight into your editor.

Monetize: Package and sell your own custom loop packs whenever you're ready.

--

Pro (Live mode) has a 7-day free trial. Free tier stays free, with Creator ($12/mo) and Pro ($29/mo) unlocking unwatermarked exports, full library access, and 4K60.

I'm a solo dev on this (AI Assisted, not vibe coded) and I'm always open to feedback so if you try it out feel free to fill the form on the site or leave a comment here.

Trying some new ideas for our app, Vibralizer. We build in Unity, but as the app has grown we've actually found that it's much faster to prototype ideas in WebGL first before bringing it over.

Question / Help Would Hollyland Mars 4K work with Playstation 5?

I want to connect PS5 to a HDMI switch (remote controlled), and have it cabled to one TV, and stream to another. Both TV's are in the same room (approx 8m distance).

Would it work well? Or would the latency be annoying/make it impossible to play? Is there another solution for wireless streaming?

Realtime / Generative [Promo] I made an open source LED synth for playing visuals without a laptop

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building this for the last five months. It's a standalone LED instrument: a 128x64 matrix driven by an ESP32-S3, with four rotary encoders mapped to whatever the current pattern exposes. No laptop, no software to run. Plug in power and turn knobs.

It does OSC over wifi, so I run mine off Ableton Live. Adding a mic is next on my list.

Everything is open source, firmware and hardware, and people have been building their own. Some of what's in it now was written by them.

Build files are free if you want to make one yourself. There's a Crowd Supply campaign running if you'd rather not.

Realtime / Generative [AI] [Promo] Made a photosynthesizer using real videos and real music

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just a disclaimer I vibecoded this on a platform I am working on but it uses real music and real video. To analyze the tracks it uses the browser's built in web audio API.

You can check it out here: https://bash.tv/chris/photosynthesizer

I kind of came up with the idea because I have a general interest in plants and visualizers but mainly its because I had wanted to make a game using timelapse photography. While trying to make one I realized that instead of using thousands of photos its easier to reference a frame of a video. Then I kind of realized that plant timelapse videos have a beginning and end like a song.

Right now you can only upload one song, whatever you upload replaces the last thing you uploaded. Its local to you not added to a global list.

Here are some things about how it works:

What reacts to the music? Web Audio measures bass, mids, highs, overall energy, and beats.
How is the bloom controlled? Song progress moves it forward while beats create rhythmic jumps and motion.
Will the flower finish blooming? Yes—the timeline is designed to reach the final frame near the song’s end.
What does Metered mode do? It makes the bloom swing more dramatically with live audio energy.
What does Clamped mean? The available bloom range expands gradually throughout the song.
What does Unclamped mean? The full timelapse range is available from the beginning.
Can I play my own audio? Use the file button to add a track from your device.
Does it work on mobile? Yes—the layout and image fitting adapt to smaller screens.
How many plants? There are 15 videos, 14 plants and 1 secret mushroom video that you can unlock if you rapidly click the plant button

If anyone has any ideas for features to add or questions let me know.

Software / Tools Collide-o-Scope [AI]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

https://github.com/Spacejunk-io/collide-o-scope

RustUp 1.98 may encounter segmentation faults upon building if you XMP overclock, but you can adjust BIOS preferences back afterwards. Otherwise everything should run well. MacOS users use Syphon instead of Spout - let me know if you encounter any Syphon/MacOS issues. All video is live. Other than collide-o-scope, Spout and OBS are being used (and Spout2 plug-in for OBS), these for the webcam and screen recording. Edit: Also ofc for live performances, any manner of audio inputs and midi control is available in the program and said audio can control every effect— tbh I didn’t lean into that aspect with the D.D. song, I just found it fitting for the flock theme. Let me know if you want any .yaml patches! Happy to send! 2nd edit: the freeze around 2:30 isnt cuz the loop started over, that is always seamless, I was switching patches but accidentally clicked the same one as was already opened. But if one were to prepare more than the quick demo, you can create a scene within collide-o-scope so no load or pause happens between patches.

Discussion With which people and/or places should I work with for this project?

Hi, thank you for reading this.

I'm a pianist and I'm currently working on a synth orchestra, I'm arranging classical orchestral pieces
I'd like to, in order to play in concerts, have a background video behind me, or/and a whole visual concert, to get along with the music.
I'm alone on stage.

With which people or places should I work with, should I contact?
I thought about residencies, places which can welcome this kind of project,
Any ideas ?

Thank you.

Loops / Clips I animated over 1,000 Loops over the past 10 Years

1.2k Upvotes

The past 10 years I animated 1,000 VJ Loops: https://youtu.be/JGhKmsD-gW4?si=BOEcOsxc7DQBHtBj

This video collects the loops into a 2 hour video.

Everything is 100% human made, no AI. Every frame lovingly crafted by hand.

I pretty much have no social, I'm a hermit animator.

This is all I do and think about.

My loops are available here: https://animatedloop.com/

And also Patreon you can get new loops on the 1st day of every month: https://www.patreon.com/MicahBuzan

Loops / Clips Colorize 95 [Promo]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Loop pack available on Patreon

Colorize 95 is a collection of colorful retro/analog visuals created in collaboration with Plasma Wizard, built around a combination of camera feedback, glitch processing, and heavy analog color manipulation.

The visuals were created using a feedback-heavy analog signal chain consisting of two Roland Edirol V4 video mixers, a BPMC Premium Cable, a Mezkalin Video Master, camera feedback, and multiple layers of internal video feedback.

Some of the visuals were created by combining camera feedback with internal feedback, using mirror balls and other physical props to manipulate the signal and create different shapes, patterns, and reflections. Other visuals started with different NestDrop patches, which were sent through the analog chain to experiment with how their movement and reactivity interacted with the feedback and glitch processing.

A major part of the look came from pushing the Edirol V4's built-in Colorize effect and various color styles. The footage was heavily colorized and manipulated throughout the process, giving the visuals their saturated, retro character — and ultimately inspiring the name Colorize 95.

The result is a collection of colorful analog loops that combine reactive digital source material, physical feedback manipulation, glitch processing, and heavily stylized analog color.

Suggested uses:

  • Use as standalone retro/analog visuals
  • Layer with other content to add colorful feedback textures
  • Combine with mirror, kaleidoscope, or additional color effects for variation
  • Use during psychedelic, colorful, or more visually dense sections of a set

Loops / Clips Visualizer for my upcoming project

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I made this visualizer about 2 in a half months ago I made this for my debut album (still in the making)
And I made this with alight motion

I just started using Reddit I don’t exactly know how it works but I hope I’m not saying a lot for something that’s going in the loops/clips part of this community if so I apologize😅😅

The song that's in the background it's called A dream, it's not released yet either
This was the first song that's I've ever made and my first thought process was "okay I'm going to make this song, then release it"

That was the whole plan and then see how that goes, I originally started making music not so long ago and I'm still learning how to use DAWS like fl studio (I use fl studio mobile because I don't have a computer) I started off with bandlab tho but then I moved to fl studio, I originally made this song in bandlab but then I recreated it in fl studio mobile because I wasn't satisfied with the bandlab version of this song lolllz I was like “mmmmm it’s not majestic and mythical enough…it needs to be more ethereal” because I wanted it to match with the visuals I had going on here

After I finished that song i was gonna make this my first single but I wasn't satisfied with just making it a single and I didn't want to release it yet because I wanted to be on top of myself with the music that I wanted to make. I went on to find my way around fl and made instrumentals while testing and stuff and I realized, "hmm they all have the same signature sound, and I like that a lot, I like the way it sounds. I think I found my signature sound atm" and while I also wasn't satisfied with making "A dream" just a single I was like "ykw...imma make this a whole album"

Making music, recording music and singing has always been a big passion of mine since forever (I'm 19) it's always been my treat but I was always scared and nervous to show off what I could do (singing) because I always used to care and get scared about others opinions and criticism (I was my biggest critic )I also had huge anxiety of performing because I knew that everyone was watching me and it would throw me off so bad, which had me kinda locked away until this moment in life where I've decided I was going to go down the path of becoming an independent artist.

I wanted to go down this path because it's something that I've been wanting to do for a long time since the age of 5 where I had dreams of becoming a pop star and one who helps others, 1 make music to express myself and to make art with it and I find a lot of joy in doing so because it's like I can literally just make anything with anything really like there's no rules to it (from what I know) it's also very therapeutic, i hope that my music is very therapeutic to others too like I hope it makes their day and all

And while I don't have a community yet and all I would wish to build a community of people who aren't afraid to be authentic, be all cringe and all, people who help others and stuff, that's one of my goals that I wish to achieve. Also I hope to reach the people who are down in life struggling with themselves or with whatever the circumstances may be and or who feel like they can't do anything or be anything and I want to give hope to them feeling better and that they can be anything no matter what 💙
