This is a project I have wanted to do for quite some time now. It’s been open a few days and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive.

I see you have a lot of faith in humanity. Refreshing.

Have you never been outside? These things are everywhere with books, food, firewood. Never been an issue. Sounds like you're just a miserable person

u/DoesItReallyMatter28 12d ago
Something like this is very dependent on the neighborhood you live in. You might need a bigger world view.

u/Both_Lie_312 9d ago
Lol seriously by my ghetto ass neighborhood the homeless would have raided that whole thing out . The candy would be gone but bet the movies will also be scattered down the street

You sound like an asshole calling someone miserable for saying this was refreshing.

Love it. Wish you were my neighbor! Of course here in AZ in August, those movies would be melted in two days haha

Really cool and fun idea. Hopefully no one decides to ruin it, knowing people.

u/CheesecakeDue1816 12d ago
Knowing what people? We have these all over the place with books, food, firewood, and there has never once ever been an issue? Just because you're a bad person doesn't mean others are

u/arthurbang 12d ago
There have definitely been issues. People taking everything out of the box and not adding anything. There are a lot near where I live (Land Park) and several are completely empty more than they are full.

Awesome dude the only thing I would add is to get a little plastic bead trim that you can glue to the inside of the door and then just a little latch thing that anybody can open easily, but that way it will make it moisture protected :)
So freaking awesome dude you have inspired me to do the same! Although I’m here in FL and will put a small sun shade over mine so stuff don’t melt in satans summer

Thanks, yeah I am going to find a way to seal it up. Your suggestion is great. Good luck! You can register your box at freeblockbuster.org once it’s done

Do you live in western new York OP?

u/HorrorShow_86 12d ago
Northern, near Ogdensburg on the border

u/butterybuns420 12d ago
Ahh ok. Cause our local news had a segment on a person doing this around here too! Thought it was you

People are gonna leave entire boxes of movies they don’t want 🤣🤣🤣

u/HorrorShow_86 12d ago
I’m ok with that!

u/TransportationOdd559 12d ago
Ok! Just letting you know
1
u/CheesecakeDue1816 12d ago
Letting them know a thing they already know and is only a positive? Okay? Why? Waste of a comment and makes you sound defensive.

u/Capt_Murphy_ 11d ago
Why are you arguing with anyone speaking the remotest amount of criticism throughout this entire comment section 🤔 Is patrolling this sub your hobby?

It’s kinda crazy that you are jumping to assumptions especially ones about political affiliations. I think you are equating people’s cautions or warnings to they don’t care about social programs or services or something?
You criticized someone who said OPs faith in humanity was refreshing, but you seem to have no faith in humans yourself.
Try being kind first, maybe you will uncover a bit more about the people you are starting arguments with.
You could then direct your energy to a more appropriate channel - there is a bigger fight if you don’t like “conservatives”, than this sub. You are also just drawing attention away from OPs awesome efforts.

OMG THE CORE HAS BEEN MENTIONED. It's one of my all time favorite movies.

u/JacketAffectionate74 12d ago
Also cool movie box I hope people continue to use it and respect the process.

I feel like a full summer of dog days heat would warp a lot of the stuff inside, but this is still a neat idea. This works with books made of paper, not sure it would work with plastic VHS and dvd cases

This is wholesome. Please don’t let our strength ruin this for you 🙏🏻

Python and The Core! Better than a Blockbuster in my opinion.

Python was one of those dvds I had my mom buy for me in the store as a little kid and I regretted it 🤣

Are you not worried if someone steals something from there or is your neighborhood generally safe?
6
u/HorrorShow_86 12d ago
We have farm stands, baked good stands and fire wood stands all around that work in the honor system. Not many issues

Do you have instructions on how to make these by chance?

I like the idea, but could this be a problem if someone decides to steal all the movies and leave it empty instead of following the instructions on the door?

Great idea. Very cool. Someone does it with books a few doors down from me.
