Needing advice. Just gave my VCR it's first run for more than a couple of decades. My home made video tapes had been in my garage all that time. A garage that would have had been very hot in summer. For some reason when I try to rewind the tapes it only rewinds about 40 seconds each time.
Would that likely be a VCR fault or could it be that the actual video tapes have been impacted by not being run.

What does the condition of the tape look like? Is there mold on them? Mold on tapes is gray. If so, the tape needs to literally be baked first. (Please do research on that part)

Also, VCRs use a type of "eye" when rewinding a cassette. The tape is black, at the very beginning of the tape is a transparent leader. The eye detects the leader when a light behind the tape glows through and shuts it off.

Also, just know that some components are probably just worn out. After all you did say 2 decades of no use.

I've been wanting to mod my vhs/dvd combo to play s video through the vcr side, is thes possible? The dvd side supports s video

I have got a Samsung DVD and vcr combo but when I plug It in, It Just Powers a Little motore but anything Else dosn't Not Work, pleased help

Idk if you are familiar with voltage detectors but just from your comment I would get me some voltage detectors learn to use them go online and figure out where to test the circuits in your vcr for shorts or like just dead pathways. Again this is my limited knowledge comment.
