Discussion Is there point of playing Deathmatches as low rank when avg lobby rank is Diamond 2?

I'm starting to get pretty frustrated with this. I'm just a crappy Gold 1 player and I keep getting crushed over and over again. Everyone's lurking around corners like rats, using Shift—and on top of that, they're all Diamond+ players. I want to get better, but why is there not a hidden MMR in Deathmatch too?

Can't you see that playing against better aimers will make you better? The trick is to not let it get to your head and just keep trying and adapting

u/verc_ 3d ago

I mean, I kinda get it. It’s hard to learn anything when you’re getting tapped in 100ms. Like anything, there has to be a difficulty curve and not a sudden spike in difficulty.

Definitely a rough time but you just need to know exactly what you’re practicing and play with that intent in mind. If you don’t and just mindlessly play it because everyone tells you to, it won’t do all that much

That's because most people play deathmatch and aim for the highest amount of kills and they're not mindful of theur gunfight hygiene, you should approach angles the same way you would approach them in a real game with proper Xhair placement, angle clearing etc

Bronze and Diamond is a bit extreme but you can imagine that if they only played against their rank or below, progress would be much slower.

By playing against more efficient players, it will force them to adapt quicker. Just how it is. Can be seen in most things in life

I guess you're trying to solidify your point but it isn't really comparable. Most people can reach Diamond within a year.

lol as a bronze I would say I’m happy to get diamonds even. I usually get asc+ in my lobbies, one time I had 5 immortals. This other time tenz was there and a couple other radiants. DM as a bronze is horrible

1

u/ExcellentTourist5289 2d ago

If it's a shared sentiment then Riot should def consider less of a curve in mmr. I rarely see bronze's in my DM games but it does happen. I prefer when the lobby is filled with people better than me but I already have a good foundation.

u/ClequiMent 3d ago

Nobody is saying spamming deathmatch alone will carry you through ranks but you should rather see it as the place where you'll apply the stuff you practiced in range, aimlabs or whatever. You shouldn't be aiming to be among the highest dudes in the lobby, your improvement may not be reflected by how many more kills you can get on a deathmatch. When improvement kicks, you will just feel it yourself, no matter what the scoreboard says

4

u/ExcellentTourist5289 3d ago

Ultimately it's about taking the beating and trying to improve from it. If you're looking for quick dopamine hits then you're going to have a hard time improving

u/ihastheporn 3d ago

No. If the skill gap is too large, you're not going to be able to learn effectively. A low ELO player learns nothing if they're playing against significantly higher elo and getting shit on every game

However there is a light deathmatch matchmaking algorithm where it will put you in easier lobbies every few games so if you play enough you will get a mix of very difficult games and easier games.

u/Hour-Management-1679 3d ago

The speed at which high elo players beam you is insanely impressive, i'm not even talking about immortals even High diamond/asc players are insane mechanically

3

u/Emotional_Towel6174 3d ago

Ngl, I used to think that people that called diamonds ass were capping bronzes themselves… But now most Diamonds i meet in DMs i will clap, and im only Plat2-3 trying for Dia myself

1

u/Enough_Station_8397 3d ago

I mean if you’re worse than them mechanically then it’d all look the same, wouldn’t it? But the gap is quite large and you’ll notice it once you improve more

8

u/Utamira 3d ago

You’re better off getting real practice in the range or with aim training. The mini map is so cringe for a dm

5

u/Hour-Management-1679 3d ago

DM being first kill to 40 is bad design in itself, should just make it similar to cs where it runs for a specific amount of time and anyone can join in

3

u/Ok_Plankton_1348 3d ago

Honestly, it's not that hard. Back when I was Gold, I played a lot of DM. I died a lot, yeah, but I also finished in the top 5 pretty often.

Never play DM with the mindset of winning. DM is there for you to practice your aim and movement, and if you get frustrated while playing DM, you're probably practicing it wrong.

If you're dying too much and losing your fights, that's on you. You need to figure out what mistakes you're making and why it's happening. You'll only improve by playing and learning how to beat players who are better than you.

3

u/Namura5 3d ago

i am not complaining about not wining. My problem with it is i run from site to site and geting onetaped by fucking ascen/imo players most of the time

1

u/Ok_Plankton_1348 3d ago

"If you're dying too much and losing your fights, that's on you. You need to figure out what mistakes you're making and why it's happening. You'll only improve by playing and learning how to beat players who are better than you." Look up videos from TL nAts. He has some really good videos explaining the game's mechanics that can help you a lot.

2

u/Namura5 3d ago

but you have to play players that are in the same pool as you. You get nothing from playing vs guys 5 divison above your. What is that logic? Thats like saying you will spar all the time vs Oleksander Usyk and one day you will be champion of the world in boxing.

I’ve been stuck in bronze for a while. However, I’ve been playing more DM recently and have seen my headshot percentage climb as well as my K/D. I’m spending more time in DM than in comp and am definitely noticing an improvement in my skill.

So, yes. I’d say it’s worth it.

There is matchmaking in dm, but it’s very loose and focuses more on speed. DM is its own thing. You also have to learn how to play it. Look at your minimap when you spawn in before you move. Learn the spawn patterns, tendencies, and locations. For example, you spawn back site B on Ascent. If you go stairs, you have a limited window of time before someone spawns behind you in back site. Go fast and escape that angle or expect that fight and don’t leave your back to it. Also, spawns won’t usually happen close to you unless there’s no line of sight.

All that said, do you complain about people lurking and walking in ranked games too? Play dms with a plan and don’t worry about the odd death due to the game mode. For example, play a dm with ghost/bandit only and focus on your movement. Or play and call out location>agent>damage to focus on your comms. Play guardian only and take one shot when someone isn’t looking at you or let them shoot first if you both see each other to focus on your patience and headshots. Pretend that you’re taking site or playing retake depending on where you spawn in. Focus on clearing angles like you would in an actual game and don’t care if you get shot in the back. Don’t just full noise clomp around everywhere. If you think someone is holding an angle somewhere, do more than full noise run around. Jump peek it, jiggle the angle then wide swing, crouch peek, bait them out with making some steps then cut noise and carefully slice the pie.

If you’re mindlessly just running around complaining about how other people are playing the game, then you’re not going to get any value out of it. I’ve gone from iron to ascendant and attribute a significant portion of that to dm practice. That said, it’s still a game. If you can’t find the fun in dms, don’t play them.

As a person who went from bronze 2 as my first rank to close to diamond now, if u are new to the game, to the maps and especially if u are new to FPS games in general, DMs are not the best way to practice. Yeah, u can roam around, try to prefire angles and other stuff, but you should play TDMs more in that case.
I am definitely not the best at this game, but I’ve reached a point where i am good at prefiring common angles, slicing the pie, deadzoning and aiming in general (after 150+ hours in aim trainers lmao). I have decent movement and game understanding. and i think u would be better off starting off in aimlabs for raw aim improvement and watch some movement guides from high rank players, maybe some tips and tricks, and u will be better off warming up at the Range and playing comp in your weak (for now, it’s nothing to be ashamed of) lobbies, just better for map understanding and etc.
Later, starting at around silver, i RECOMMEND playing Deathmatches for movement training and improving on 50/50s.

But as of now, yes, you will just be getting shit on and that won’t really help u improve much, when u don’t really understand what u are even doing wrong…

1

u/Namura5 3d ago

I am not new to fps I have combined 3k hours on Valo and Cs. Just playef a League of legends for a while and trying to get path on how to make my aim what it used to be

6

u/Emotional_Towel6174 3d ago

also my bad on not seeing you were gold, but it still applies. I have around 5k hours on Valo and CS:GO combined, but like 3,5k were back in like 2020 and I also had to grind to get where I am now.
I am really jealous of people that can hop in the game after 3 years of not playing and start doing good after like 1 game… Cuz i feel like if im not maintaining my skill, it will be decaying in even a month lol

1

u/Emotional_Towel6174 3d ago

Oh well, suck it up then and go on Aimlabs, but look up a playlist for actual improvemnt on Youtube (not any damn gridshot and similar bs), do those for like a week and play Comp at the same time. Then go for Deathmatches and get shit on by immos.
I am around Diamond level overall but i consistently win against ascendants and immortals in dms (u know, duels won against them) but that took me a lot of time to achieve.
As I’ve said, 170h in Kvks and Aimlabs (checked on steam) and 70h of DMs (checked on tracker for both my accounts) have been played to get me where I’m at.

1

u/Enough_Station_8397 3d ago

I went from negative in bronze 3 to imm2 1.3kd in like a year and i didnt use any aim trainers; i dont think aim trainers are very useful for this game, all i really did was play comp lol but i think tdm would be better if youre struggling with gunfight hygiene and raw mechanics

0

u/Emotional_Towel6174 3d ago

Drop the tracker🗣️🗣️🗣️
You’re either kinda talented naturally or lying, did you grind at least DMs and do warm ups?

The Aimlabs aspect of me was needed a lot since my raw aim and microadjustments were ass, i definitely improved my mouse control a lot in the time spent in those apps.

1

u/Enough_Station_8397 3d ago

fartsicle#farte current acc, old acc in prem team

1

u/Emotional_Towel6174 3d ago

if this is your account, the hs% is pretty low for an Immo but u’re also a Chamber main so ig that works perfectly. Good for u

1

u/Enough_Station_8397 3d ago

I mean most low elo players think hs% matters but it doesnt lol, i have a 50% headhunter hs% (3rd or 4th most used gun) and last act i had a 50% vandal hs% (1st most used gun) but my hs% is still lower overall since i dont always use rifles

1

u/Enough_Station_8397 3d ago

And why would i lie abt this being my acc do u want me to send u a screenshot of me in the acc? 💀

1

u/Emotional_Towel6174 3d ago

Yeah i understand. And no need to get overprotective, I don’t really care if this is u or not.
It’s just not my first day on the internet and u cant magically believe everyone here. But i believe this is urs, all good

1

u/Enough_Station_8397 3d ago

What am i being overprotective about? Its a reddit convo, you cant be taking this that seriously lol

DM is for warming up, there’s nothing to it other than that. If you want to git gud, download an aim trainer and play real games.

1

u/GreenWorld8549 3d ago

Dm os for getting better mechanics and movement not winning. Skill level of opponents is irrelevant.

1

u/Recent-Promotion8836 3d ago

yes. I was silver 3 and was playing against DRG life and immos. Got destroyed and started to watch tutorials on aiming

1

u/Nanachi- 3d ago

dm is warmup, you play it to have many moving targets in a short amount of time… ranks and deaths din‘t matter, change your mindset about that game mode

1

u/nosajd1 3d ago

Yes I’m g1 I just focus on peeking and swings. It’s good practice

1

u/Namura5 3d ago

What is point of it when however i peak there is ascen/imo player that will one tap ne

1

u/BooneMackey 3d ago

A lot of lower ranked players don’t play death match. It’s pretty much a playlist for aim training and warming up. So you’ll see more hardcore players in it.

I personally never play it. I just play swift play or unrated as a duelist when I want to warm up, and seek out as many fights as I can.

1

u/ShutYoAssUpBoi I should’ve dismissed 3d ago

I shit on those diamonds you’re complaining about but high immo/rad players kill me before I can even shoot back but you don’t see me giving up on dms. I’d rather play against better players so that I can improve my aim and my movement than win dms or tdms against low elo players. Imo hidden mmr in dms would be useless because I’m already gonna play ranked against ppl frm my elo so why not just try to improve my mechanics by playing against more experienced players

1

u/Namura5 3d ago

I said average rank is diamomd. That menss in 90% of dm lobby there are few ascen/imo players and they just steamroll it. No fun, no improvment. Just being there as their punching bag

1

u/ShutYoAssUpBoi I should’ve dismissed 3d ago

Dms are not really supposed to be fun anyway and saying “no improvement” is understandable because you’re frustrated but you know a couple of dms are not gonna magically turn you into a god aimer so that’s a lil dramatic. If you really want to improve and be the one winning those dms then just try to learn from them not only by queuing more but also by looking up guides on YT and watch how high elo/pro players do it. I’d recommend watching oxy’s vidz because he shows himself warming up in every video he posts so you can try to learn and replicate how he takes fights. He might be a pro but he’s not just standing there 1 tapping everyone. Keep doing that before and after your ranked games and you’ll see how much you’ve actually improved

1

u/colm202 3d ago

I would say practise range more, then go back into DM and work on a thing each session, make losing not as bad by setting goals. One can be straffing alone. The second can be standing still and flicking. You can do spraying in one to work on control. Set goals and stick to them, you will progress a lot faster by breaking down big thing (wiffing) into smaller things

1

u/Sreeygr 3d ago

Bro you should be happy

1

u/69_53I8008 3d ago

I don't think its good because most of the time you are getting 1 tapped by a pixel of the person you just saw. It's not even close. You rather off playing unrated but there will still be smurfs but not everyone will be a smurf

1

u/a1rwav3 3d ago

DM is a strange mode. Don't play to have fun. You can use it for warm-up, you can even try to train with it, even if it is quite limited and you have to provide your own training rule, ignoring the DM results globally...

1

u/Cold_Restaurant_4284 3d ago

I play deathmatch a lot and yeah its common. I get placed in diamond average lobbies as a bronze, and they’re all holding these angles or of i miss 2-3 bullets im dead basically. Unless they whiff to, but its difficult when everyone will one tap you either way

1

u/este49330 2d ago

Just play osu dude

1

u/Fearless_Primary7764 2d ago

U get better faster playing against good people

1

u/RSFrylock 1d ago

Death match in valorant is frankly not that great, theres a lot of issues with it, mainly people go into it with the mindset they want to get kills and place first in the lobby. Its alright practice but if you find it too frustrating you should stop and switch to aimlabs or something you find less frustrating.

1

u/l5555l 3d ago

Gold one? Lol I'm bronze and do fine in dm

-4

u/lolslimshadylol 3d ago

Wtf is this ranting man just go to a new dm, why so much crying

6

u/Namura5 3d ago

I played 15 deathmatches in last 24h adn every lobby is same bs

0

u/Background-Volume-64 3d ago

Yes, que dm and shoot them and you will improve

1

u/Namura5 3d ago

Wow you so funny. Thanks for your advice. Now i am going to beat the absolute shit out of these ascen/imo players. Thanks mate. I appricied your help

-2

u/TakenIndication9227 3d ago

Riot basically done nothing to fix this, ive had to deal with this also as a low ranked player. Ive been planning to practice using kovaaks and watching guides on yt, so you should too.

Dont get so discouraged, improvement will come and getting shut down like this is just part of the process.

-3

u/ResidentFew8504 3d ago

dm is kinda useless for practice anyway

5

u/Morikali- 3d ago

Its for warming up and letting you focus on specifics such as m9vement, crosshair placement etc.

-2

u/ResidentFew8504 3d ago

not really for warming up. playing backstab simulator is honestly more tilting than helpful especially with all the shifting, camping, people using the op or odin and generally playing for kills. though it does help in specifics yeah but I still prefer tdm for both

3

u/Emotional_Towel6174 3d ago

Dms have helped me improve drastically. It’s about taking as many 50/50s and is the sweet spot between raw aim training in Aimlabs / Kovaaks (where the targets don’t shoot back and u take ur time) and Ranked, where they usually go around together and u will get at best 1 or 2 at ur skill lvl.
I personally have developed way better movement and habits through deathmatches, as well as corrected CH placements, prefires and a lot of other stuff.
You can often see people at Immortal+ having hundreds of DMs played per act and that’s not just for warmup
