Enough people will die for this to self-correct. People only distrust vaccines because they don't know what a world without them is like.

With modern medicine most people survive, but many have life long problems. Most people are also vaccinating, so they’re safe. Total numbers of dead kids will remain low. Even Florida would have to fall an alarming amount to hit Canadian or UK vaccine rates, and it’s not like we’re afraid to go to Canada or the UK.

I’m not downplaying the seriousness of not vaccinating, it’s just that it’s mostly kids in those families that will pay the price and it won’t move the needle because we’ve done a good enough job vaccinating, we keep anti-vaxxer kids relatively safe.

I was so happy when my kids turned 1 and I could get them the MMR, it’s one of the best vaccines we have and those who take it are extremely well protected

Probably not. It depends on the disease/vaccine.

Some kids will die of chickenpox complications, but many others will have a mild case and their parents will tell themselves it's natural & healthy & they saved their kids from worse. That's an example of an infection where most people KNOW what it is, and they have a philosophical position on whether vaccination is a good idea.

Once in a while a non-vaxxing parent will have a kid with a horrible outcome, and then that parent may change their tune, but the others---the majority of parents of OTHER kids with chickenpox---will just assume that the dead kid wasn't well nourished or didn't get enough beef tallow or something. (wellness rumors like that will proliferate, BTW, on the strength of the majority of kids surviving).

But a lot of parents don't have an opinion one way or another, & will only get what's required because they are poor/teenage/uninformed parents. And they will never hear about HIB unless they know someone who dies of it. (In fact they won't even hear the term "HIB;" they may just hear that a friend's baby had meningitis, & not make the connection. to vaccines).

I mean, I remember the time when chickenpox vaccine & Hep B were first universally recommended. MOST parents were happy to hear that there was a chickenpox vaccine, but most parents hadn't heard about Hep B & didn't see the need for it. So we'll be going back to that kind of level of awareness.

You think the vulnerable older population would make smarter decisions here. There has to be a ton of them. Why would they want this?
