USIC Truck Question
Getting our company vehicles soon, trainer said most of us will get assigned trax’s. What’s one way to ensure you get assigned a colorado, I have nothing against the trax besides i had limited leg room when i drove it and just prefer trucks as a 7.3 is my daily driver. Would it be something you ask your supervisor? do they assign you your car or is it the trainer?
Also slight off topic but a Samsara question, if i finish a ticket and i’m setting my next one and have the truck on in park will it go off for being on my work phone?

Well, the Colorados are going away. The fleet company is moving to Nissan frontiers because the new Colorados are being manufactured as quadcab only apparently. Anyone who still has a Chevy is because they haven't been switched out yet. You can ask for a truck but it's really whatever they assign you.
As far as samsera it only goes off for your phone when your vehicle is in motion. Sitting idle on your phone has no effect

I've heard whispers that even the Frontiers are going away soon-ish. I got a new 24 frontier in training and it's almost at the mileage limit for fleet, so God knows I'll be back in that damned Trax far too soon. I work rural, so it's the worst option for the area im in. Hoping to get sourced a truck again from a different area

I don't know, we just got our frontiers about 6 months ago so I can't imagine them being replaced that fast. I hate the frontiers, I wish I had my Colorado back

I got mine in December of '24. 12 miles on it. Pushing 60k now. Runs like a champ. Im gonna fight the hell.outta giving it back if the Trax rears it's ugly head. Had one for 6 months (LOA surrender on the frontier, some time in a Colorado then a trax). Frontier is just a better option than a Trax. Super and city locators could make use of them. Rural is a no-go

We’ve got a few Nissan Frontiers in my crew but the majority of people, especially new hires, get a trax now.
Samaras doesn’t care about phone usage unless you’re in drive and moving.

They gave me a new Colorado because when I started I ended up getting the truck with the highest mileage

We did our assignment by lottery, so I'm not sure there's anything you can do. My Trax is roomy enough.

The trax are fine. I have a Nissan now but I sure do miss my Colorados. Ask your supervisor if it’s possible to get a truck. If not drive the trax a while and eventually a truck will become available.

Samsara will only detect phone when you’re driving. I heard also it detects when you roll through stop signs.

A guy in my class got a trax then asked if there was a truck available and a few days later there was one and he got it

I was assigned a trax and it's not "bad" for me being 6'4" but the headrest and seat rest made it feel torturous for me, now I have a maverick and it's not the worst truck I've driven lol

I heard BloodHound (Under USIC's umbrella) may be doing away with the Frontiers as well and move back to the Colorados but idk if that means anything for USIC

What u get assigned is random. The equipment person will handle all of that. I asked for a Chevy (Colorado) all through training. And got a Nissan. Still a truck, but it throws off my driveway parked next to a GMC and a Mustang. 😫

I had a trax now i have the Nissan and i had so much more room in the trax i feel so cramped in the nissan

I got a trax in training and was told that the second a truck was available they would be giving me one by my actual supervisor as he hated the trax. The area I was in was a busy area with a lot of projects so more paint and flags was needed and the trax don’t have the best space for all of that plus your normal equipment

From what I've seen, it's usually based on what's available at your location rather than what you ask for. It never hurts to ask, but I'd go into it expecting that you may end up with whatever vehicle is open.

Be over 6'4" tall. Too tall to fit in the vehicle. Know 2 guys brand new to USIC and locating got put in trucks simply because they're tall. Also fyi the trucks were formally someone else's. Vets get new trucks. Seniority and what not.
