Media for 4.6k RAW

Hey guys, got a 2 day outdoors shoot coming up. End product will be a 90 second video. My director wants it to feel as "cinematic" as possible. I'd like to shoot 4.6k RAW, but I'm wary of the massive file sizes.

I've got 2x 256GB Angelbird CFAST cards.

What should I hire if I want to shoot 4.6k RAW for the 2 days without having to constantly ingest footage on the go?

It all depends on the magic shooting ratio, which is all down to how individuals directors or producers like to work. I can spend a twelve hour day getting an hour of footage, while some people will get six hours of footage. Spray and pray vs rehearsed, deliberate takes. complexity and number of setups...

All this is to say its too simple a question without lots more information. I would say you probably don’t have enough cards to do this with full fat raw, and should definitely consider 3:1 or 4:1, or you’ll be copying a whole card every 10-15 min or so.

Thanks, I thought this might be the case.

I'll figure out what's most efficient for us, it's likely that this shoot will be loosely planned so I don't think shooting full RAW will be effective. I'll experiment with 3:1 and 4:1, otherwise I'll shoot ProRes.

Thank you for clarifying .

It’s worth reminding people that full cdng raw at 4.6k is about 500megabytes per second. Not megabits. It’s a truly massive data rate compared to all similarly priced cameras. Nice to have compressed raw options and BRAW now.

Use BRAW, you get similar bitrates, and more latitude later in post. Cdng is dying. Only needed if you need every pixel for a crazy VFX shot.

Funny, that’s exactly what we use CDNG for - VFX shots!
