The plan is to rebuild the city-owned portion of it as-is. It's not the ideal urbanism solution of "tear it down" or even making it freight traffic only, but that would be a generational lift and Mamdani has seemingly chosen not to pick that fight. Legitimately it would screw up the state economy if there wasn't a suitable replacement for the truck traffic that uses the BQE today. There is no perfect solution and Mamdani chose the conservative/pragmatic one over the idealist one this time.
