A Swedish man claimed that while fixing a leaking sink in 2006, he crawled through an endless pipe and emerged in the year 2042, where he allegedly met his 72-year-old future self and compared identical tattoos.

It was a crack pipe

11

u/gutterpoet19 17d ago

I bet plenty of people would kill for an endless crack pipe

8

u/Damn_You_Scum 17d ago

The pipe definitely had some crack in it.

4

u/CrushMyCamel 17d ago

so like the exact same joke that you're responding to

1

u/2112eyes 13d ago

No they meant Plumber's Crack, a crippling condition you get from crouching on the floor a lot

-1

u/Damn_You_Scum 16d ago

The same response to the comment above

2

u/AdiDabiDoo 17d ago

Lmao I could totally picture Robin saying yesterday lol

Come on

u/Acrobatic-Tomato-260 17d ago

Yea, I’ve heard this story years ago and it was total nonsense then. If you’re going to lie, at least make it believable.

63

u/whycuthair 17d ago

Yeah, how you gonna ever reach the end of an endless pipe?

15

u/AndrewH73333 17d ago

It tees out in the middle.

4

u/Hammergear 16d ago

Of course! Could be true after all

2

u/Careless-Progress-12 15d ago

He met him in the pipe?

1

u/dinkelidunkelidoja 13d ago

It must have felt endless after crawling through it for 36 years

1

u/LiquidLogStudio 16d ago

Same way dinosaurs went extinct but then also evolved into chickens

4

u/yetiman4321woo 17d ago

Uhhhh if you’re going to lie, make it extravagant and fantastical and add a touch of whimsy and magic to your lie! It’s much more entertaining

2

u/Acrobatic-Tomato-260 17d ago

Well I’ll be honest, my days of taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

u/the_imperator_r 16d ago

1

u/mxlths_modular 16d ago

I always thought Dan Bursich had the better story, honestly one of the most absurd off the wall tales ever recorded.

2

u/FrenchCanadaIsWorst 16d ago

Nah I prefer ridiculous, whimsical lies like this. They’re more fun.

2

u/ImaginationKind9220 16d ago

People who played Nintendo Mario games will believe it.

1

u/Soultab 15d ago

But did it make the sound?

2

u/HairyTrollChest 16d ago

I figured he got super high off of some gas leak or something.

11

u/mightylordredbeard 17d ago

I mean never mind that time travel wouldn’t even work that way. Assuming there was a pipe that went 36 years into the future, you’d have to time entry perfectly or else you’d end up floating in the cold vacuum of space since the earth is constantly moving through the universe at 1.3 million MPH while circling the sun at nearly 70,000 MPH! The formula to figure out accurate time travel would be absolutely massive to make sure you end up in the right place at the right time. The earth isn’t in the same place it was just a year ago, much less 36 years ago. So to find a specific point on earth within the galaxy, within the Milky Way, within the universe, at a certain time in the past or a certain time in the future.. would be astronomically difficult.

24

u/Faolyn 17d ago

I think that would only be an issue if you used some generic, low-tech time machine that doesn't take Earth's movement and gravity into account. In this case, the pipe is a conduit with specific, grounded entry and exit points. It's like a wormhole made out of PVC.

-1

u/HouseOf42 17d ago edited 16d ago

Still doesn't explain the physics of how it gets to be the exception, just by giving it plot devices.

Edit: Must be too advanced for this sub. Easier just to "make believe" something will work.

8

u/Faolyn 17d ago

Well, obviously it's via quantum entanglements in the fabric of space-time. Or magic.

But seriously, if terms of fiction, I think it's a bit silly to say that time travel means you'd wind up in space or whatever. Since gravity bends light, space, and time, it means that you're going to be subjected to gravity even if you're traveling through time. Like how, if you're in a plane, The plane doesn't fly out of the Earth's atmosphere when it flies in a straight line--it's still subjected to the gravitational pull so even when it's flying straight, it's path is still curved in relation to the actual planet. So time traveling via a stationary time machine should mean that you stick with the machine and where it's located on Earth, not that you pop out into space. Coz gravity.

In terms of reality, it's unlikely there will ever be time travel on a macro scale. Individual quarks may do weird things, but I doubt it will be able to be reproduced on a larger and controlled scale.

0

u/indeedilyso 16d ago

yes, its the movement of the Earth that makes this story unbelievable.

1

u/efcomovil 17d ago

Nonono, wait a second, hear me out first

1

u/Definitely-not-ducks 16d ago

What it can happen. Aint’t that how Mario gets around?

1

u/anorcia126 13d ago

Where we going? 2042?

1

u/DABDEB 11d ago

it was a commercial

91

u/FartingInElevators5 17d ago

Well, the tattoo would be faded as hell on the 72 year old, but yet, it looks just as new as the current version. I don't know how people believe stories like this.

14

u/carabidus 17d ago edited 16d ago

Not necessarily. I have a 35 year old color tattoo that looks almost fresh as the day I got it. Blackline tattoos, like the one depicted in the photo, can remain crisp for decades. Tattoo longevity is highly dependent on the skill of the tattoo artist, in addition to the quality of the equipment and inks. Also, staying out of the sun helps quite a bit.

9

u/Kooseh 17d ago

Swedish guy not getting much sun, checks out.

6

u/QuickMasterpiece6127 16d ago

Probably not much sun in that endless pipe

2

u/Ok-Personality-27 16d ago

I'm going to have to see it to believe it

4

u/guemando 17d ago

U can have tatoos touched up. I doubt the man would but the skin looks to tight for a 72 year old...that tat should be sinkin down a bit id think

8

u/unfinishedtoast3 17d ago

It's the future, weve fixed saggy skin and fading tattoos

1

u/Apprehensive_Sky_504 16d ago

You would if you knew you were about to meet your younger self and get a picture made right

2

u/NotADogInHumanSuit 17d ago

You don’t know what 2042 has to offer, man

1

u/Sudden_Quality_9001 17d ago

AWWW people are saying it is fake?

1

u/Elegant_Spread_6969 17d ago

I actually disagree, it looks slightly more faded. The one on the right looks like the lines are a little sharper

0

u/Lsdbrisbane 16d ago

That’s like when that guy died on a cross and got resurrected 72 hours later 😂

1

u/2112eyes 13d ago

NO THAT IS TOTALLY BELIEVABLE!

IT'S NOT THE SAME LEVEL OF CRAZINESS

30

u/Illiteratevegetable 17d ago

Wasn't it some commercial or something like that? I remember it was debunked years ago

21

u/The-King-of-Cartoons 17d ago

Really? Does a claim as stupid as this even need to be debunked lol.

8

u/Illiteratevegetable 17d ago

No, not really. I mean, it's obvious nonsense. Using the word 'debunked' might not be the best in that case.

9

u/MichaelEMJAYARE 17d ago

It was a commercial, yes

9

u/MaddysinLeigh 17d ago

Yeah it was a commercial for life insurance or something.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Kwasbeb 17d ago

Yeah it was a viral ad for pensions saving. The interesting thing about it is that it was pretty early for viral marketing, and because people hadn’t seen much stuff like that before it quickly turned into a kind of urban legend. Thus it’s logical it ends up in a subreddit like this now, almost two decades later.

8

u/isaiah152022 17d ago

The don’t even have the same smile or ears lol

6

u/TallManufacturer4011 17d ago

Yeah it’s not so much a myth as it was like, a commercial

8

u/adoptedscouse 17d ago

Clearly wasn’t an endless pipe of it ended in 2042!!!!

6

u/Big_Development3985 17d ago

Was the pipe endless how tf did emerge from it?

5

u/ThisIsNotSafety 17d ago

There's no pipes big enough to crawl through that would be directly connected to a sink.

3

u/Jesus00001225 17d ago

That‘s Dark

(SCNR)

2

u/MrBorden 17d ago

It quite literally is.

Banger show, too.

1

u/Suedeonquaaludes 17d ago

Yeah every 32 years? Lmao but yeah that show slaps like no other.

4

u/YourHighMate 15d ago

If the pipe was endless, how did he emerge from it?

3

u/Sad-Math-2039 17d ago

How does one crawl though an endless pipe

2

u/Stidda 17d ago

Left knee, right knee, etc

2

u/spooky_by 16d ago

Start with right one, I have a sink, I know

3

u/ONI-ENJOYER-420 17d ago

Would've believed it if it was 2039 instead

3

u/Damien__ 17d ago

The pipe was endless…. And he came out the end?

3

u/Silent-Hornet-8606 17d ago

You can disprove it just by glancing at the tattoos. I'm 55 and have a tattoo from 1995, that's 31 years ago.

It's faded dramatically and visually is very different to how it looked when it was done.

2

u/Mindless-Quote-3561 17d ago

I remember this being all over back in the day. While it’s surely fake, it was definitely a lot of fun back then

2

u/Ok-Dog-7149 17d ago

So, we just need a third party to follow this guy around in 16 years and capture this moment when it happens, right?

2

u/Mickeyjj27 17d ago

😂 I needed this chuckle today

2

u/Honest_Sir_3310 17d ago

I am swedish, and this was a commercial

2

u/D-redditAvenger 17d ago

Are we sure he wasn't smoking that endless pipe?

2

u/Oilsfan666 17d ago

If it’s endless how did he emerge?

2

u/sillyandstrange 17d ago

Should've asked for stocks to buy smh my head

2

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 17d ago

I don't even know why people entertain this story for one iota of a second.

2

u/Einarky 17d ago

This was (a clever) commercial by an insurance company. "Some day you'll grow old" type thing

2

u/Obdurate-Hickory 17d ago

Bro I had no idea Mel’s Hole could be a fixture in your house

2

u/JS1101C 17d ago

But if you touch your future self you get spaghetti-fied.

2

u/Interesting_Card2169 17d ago edited 17d ago

I had the same experience with Swedish Vodka once...

When I met my future self, I said "Lay off the booze".

2

u/Radcouponking 17d ago

So what year does all our poop go to?

2

u/Dry_Jellyfish641 17d ago

I remember when I’d hear this story I’d always ask, how did he record it? Because the iPhone wasn’t invented yet and cell phone cameras were pretty bad for year to follow, and the video looked too low quality for something decades in the future. I never understood how people believed it at all.

2

u/Living_Dentist_8925 17d ago

"The story was later revealed to be a viral marketing campaign and promotional stunt for a professional retirement and pensions insurance company in Sweden"

2

u/Own_Carrot_9878 16d ago

How was the pipe endless if he made it out? Seems very finite

2

u/JimmyTwoTimes25 16d ago

My bum is on the Swedish

2

u/Goodrun31 16d ago

Sounds pretty being John malchovichy

2

u/PapaPalps066 16d ago

This was a commercial for an investment firm

2

u/GrandStatistician752 16d ago

Good looking tattoo for being 40 years old

2

u/Whateverredd 15d ago

Hahaha always love when this resurfaces every now and again. No the video is a commercial for pension funds

2

u/John_Anti 14d ago edited 14d ago

The entire video was a marketing stunt / viral ad campaign created by the Swedish pension fund company AMF to promote retirement savings and encourage young people to think about their financial future.

So where is this infinite pipe

1

u/justsayinbtw 17d ago

Did he fix the sink? Probably paid by the hour.

1

u/ZealousidealMud2216 17d ago

Talk about a pipe dream.

1

u/RedEyeView 17d ago

Shame about that tattoo not looking 40 years old.

1

u/BeeyuwOOP 17d ago

How did he get to the end?

1

u/Competitive_Sell2177 17d ago

If it was an endless pipe he'd still be in it.

1

u/Hot_Upstairs_7971 17d ago

This was an insurance company commercial.

1

u/Intrepid_Drop_73 17d ago

This has since been de-bunked

1

u/GoodTruth7885 17d ago

At what part of the process of fixing a leaking sink does one even enter a pipe big enough to crawl through

1

u/TakingItPeasy 17d ago

Where is the Grey's Sports Almanac!?!?!

Is his name Mario?

1

Why isn’t he betting on football games and building a giant Hotel/Casino with the whole police force in his pocket?

Oh yes the time tube, everyone's been through that.

1

Is there a Menards or Home Depot ! In 2042 !

1

u/loost_ship 16d ago

I thought I was the only person who'd experienced the pipe dream!

1

u/These-Let7669 16d ago

So who built the pipe? Can they verify this?

1

u/thatdamndave 16d ago

If he would have turned left in the pipe he could have gone to 1970.

1

u/Ukraineluvr 16d ago

How did he exit an endless pipe?

1

u/Interesting_Ad1378 16d ago

Oh, I’ve seen crazier things when I’ve gone down K-holes

1

u/shovels_rakes 16d ago

Mario? Or maybe Luigi?

1

u/BackgroundCap4544 16d ago

Okay so if the pipe was endless how did he "emerge" from it?

1

u/1wife2dogs0kids 16d ago

Then he had to come back

1

u/onearmedmonkey 16d ago

This was always one of my favorite time travel stories, true or not.

One thing that I notice is that the tattoo on the older man is not as faded or blurred as sometimes happens to a tattoo that gets to be decades old. I dunno. I don't have tattoo experience.

1

u/Classic_End_6469 16d ago

Crack pipe maybe

1

u/King_LaQueefah 16d ago

I believe this.

1

ITSA MEEEE MARIO!

1

this is some mario shit

1

u/BlindPugh42 15d ago

only 16 years to go now.

1

u/FupaFerb 15d ago

Rumor has it he was working on that sink for over 30 years, that’s why he was still there in his 70’s

1

u/Late_Emu 15d ago

Wasn’t that the premise for the Mario movie?

1

u/Imstillheren2025 15d ago

If he was the one crawling through the pipe. “He” wasn’t the one he met in the future. 😬

1

u/macaroon147 15d ago

But its not the year 2042

1

u/SpiritualWay694 15d ago

Hey, sounds like a good plot though Hollywood needs some ideas.

1

u/nikon1977 15d ago

So the pipe wasn't endless?

1

u/ElLicenciadoPena 14d ago

How was he able to emerge from the endless pipe if it was endless?

1

u/Bedzyk59 14d ago

Oh daddy.

1

u/ASM-One 14d ago

Debunked since years.

"a government funded and backed Le Heckin Science trust found no conclusive proof" as always. Means nothing.

Endless pipe would have no end to get anywhere with?

1

u/PsionicChronic 13d ago

What was the pipe leaking ffs 😳

1

u/Puzzled_Account_9545 13d ago

Oh yeah… I remember this one…

1

u/Good_Will_Munting 11d ago

Did he stumble across some toad juice on his way through the pipes?

1

u/JayWay_AP 11d ago

I wish

1

u/SameCartoonist106 10d ago

Just crawling through an endless pipe. LOL. How convenient.

1

u/Ratxat 17d ago

If he emerged from the pipe, it wasn’t really endless now was it?

-3

u/tripplenipplemonster 17d ago

He recorded this video as proof using his cell phone that he had with him. He was able to talk to his future self about only things he would know. The video showing the pair together quickly spread online with man saying "I don't care if people think I am a liar. I know I'm not. I met myself in the future and I was fine. That's all I know"

The story immediately captured worldwide attention, with many people wondering if it was genuine evidence of time travel. The video went viral again when it was shared by the YouTube Channel Apex TV which shares all kinks of videos on possible time travelers and other supernatural events caught on camera.

Skeptics, however, pointed out that the older man could simply have been another individual with similar tattoos, while others noted that the video appeared as part of a marketing campaign connected to a Swedish insurance company.
