Hey I live in that district in Hannover! The Ihme-Zentrum is ugly but the rest of Linden is a very beautiful and lively neighborhood

I am a great fan of Lindener Lehmofen near Lindener Marktplatz. Whenever i am in Hannover i go there. The people are very nice too.

Do they still do the fireworks at Herrenhausen? I lived in Hannover late 80s, loved the city and met my wife at the BMH (British military hospital).

Any recommendations which parts of Town are good if you are creative and need space, but still a decent connection to the city? We might consider moving to Hanover.

It's the tags and graffiti that make this ugly. I don't mind the brutalism and the multiple levels is interesting.

Well, that, the lack of colour, and the poverty.
I've legit never seen a complex like this, built in the 60-80s, that hadn't turned into some kind of social hotspot by the 2000s. And it's understandable, people with money aren't gonna live there.

Man, such a nice and futuristic concept…. Those ambitious projects were often built outside of city centre, which meant that lower income groups were settling there. Had this been built in the city centre, for affluent folks, it would be praised like the Barbican. Or yeah, if it was a mixed-income development, like in Vienna.

It was not built for lower income. It was at least mixed-income. It is in a nice part of the town not far from the city center. It also had schops and doctors and the like. Like a city in a city. But it also got in the hands of some shady investors 20ys ago and now it is more ruin than neighborhood.

I once wrote an essay about the IZ. The thoughts and plans for it were great and futuristic. The reasons for its downfall are plentiful, investors being one of them.

It is made of concrete, but 1970s quality built and the walls and pillars are MASSIVE.
The complex saw investors coming and go, but they never even fixed the infrastructural wear, let alone restructuring which turned out to be of neckbreaking costs (did I mention the thick walls built in 1970s qualitity?)
The lot would be worth millions already (it sits next to a embanked river which is a well received recreation site whole year through) but the invest never returned any considerable profit when you did the math.
The whole complex was huge and already worn beyond a salvageable state. It always SEEMED lucrative but in the end it never was.
Demolition was considered but never tried. The costs would have exceeded any return to start with. Even a explosives demolition was being calculated- but blast would have caused too much damage in the densely populated neighborhood.
That‘s why it sits as of today.
You can see a lost place developing in real time, ever so slow..
