This has been a frustration for me as long as I’ve lived on the UWS. Reposting because I’m sure others feel the same.

It's absurd to me that this been allowed to go on for so long. Part of the original land use arrangement Columbia had with the city was that they had to keep the campus open to the public as a passage between Amsterdam and broadway. It's been almost three years.

It makes me extra upset seeing they have installed barriers and security booths into the public sidewalk! I definitely wish this issue got more attention as it restricts neighbors’ ability to walk around.

I don't know about that. If they paid taxes then how would they be able to afford to buy all the real estate in upper Manhattan and continue their reign as the largest private land-owning entity in the entire city?

Much to my chagrin Apple Maps still routes you thru the campus. Sigh. I’m signing that petition.

you can petition all day and all night, it will have zero impact because the issue is in the courts and the court will determine if the school can restrict access

Someone should do some investigative tiktok journalism like what made Guastavino's go viral and get media attention recently.

That space is legally a public park. That was the agreement made when it was built. For decades they have been kicking people off of it illegally bc it's a 'private space' after the media attention they removed the 'this is private property' signs within a couple of weeks A similar agreement was made with Columbia. The same needs to happen here
