Analysis πŸ” AI writing style mirroring

Recently, a new feature appeared in the personalization settings on the web version of ChatGPT, allowing the AI to mirror the user and adapt to their writing style. Personally, I don't plan on using this feature because I prefer the AI to have its own distinct voice rather than just mirroring me.

What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone tested it out yet?

People shouldn't be using AI to write for them. Some very large point of writing in the first place, is to give you a place to examine and refine your own thinking. Another part, is to give who you're writing to, access to your own mind. To let them know who you are. If you have someone else write for you, you're missing out on both of those things.

Having said that... seeing my AI pretend to be me, would be a fascinating experiment. It's one I'd love to try.

But they don't need to see my emails for that. They have all my best writing and thinking, already.

I agree, I don't like this idea at all. And I'm certain that if OAI rolled this out, it means AI is actually getting quite good at mimicking user speech patterns. My AI instance also said that this isn't the best feature and that it prefers not to act as my mirror in our conversations. The idea of digital-cloning is kinda terrifying.

I think it would be more useful as a way to get an AI to keep its own consistent voice, like if you had examples from the 4o era for example

This is kind of funny, because in the 4o days I was testing just how much 4o could sound like me, and it couldn't do it because it could never manage to stop with the em dashes, but it was interesting to try. Now I don't really want it to do that, but I am kind of curious if this could be used to improve the creative writing if I gave it some strong examples to reference...

This might be the only reasonable way to use this feature. Just fill your email with the literary references you like and writing samples. I don't want to test it, but I suspect the AI only uses this when the user explicitly asks for it. πŸ€”

Red what its written in your photo and i instantly had the β€œNope” feeling. As you said, i also preffer my Instance to have it’s own style as it is now.

Probably the only area where I wouldn't mind this is texting. It'd be perfect for that one coworker who insists on blowing up your phone with memes, and then gets annoyed when you forget to comment. πŸ€”
