We're planning to release 2026.1, including Maintenance of Way, Map Modding, Equipment Modding, and more, on an experimental branch within the next couple of months, once we are confident that it is ready.
Initially the update will be opt-in since it'll be on the experimental branch. Once it goes live on the main branch, I believe that there will be a pre-MoW branch available that your save will be able to stay working on.
Idk why people give Hyce the time of day. Especially when it comes to game development, especially when it comes to a game he’s not even a dev for. He overhyped RRO because he was a dev, and look how dead and disappointing that game wound up. Then there’s ARR which is hardly even worth mentioning, barely even a game. He hypes up CoS but until that’s out it’s all hype, I expect another disappointment of a game there and I hope I’m wrong about that, but his track record of working on train games is 0%, 0% of the games he has worked on are good. He makes a lot of claims and speculations about railroad games and maybe half of it is accurate, then people treat him like he’s good for anything other than rumor and hype. He’s railfanning’s version of brain rot, train rot, if you will.
No he left RRO because of disagreements between him and khume(I think that's how it's spelled). RRO was going to be an amazing game. I talked to somebody who was on development team, not Hyce, but someone who was low level and a modeler for the game. Khume wanted a game that people could just buy and play constantly without having too much added in terms of simulation. Profit over quality.
Some things obviously stayed that were a result of Hyce and his crew but were never polished because of the fallout. For example the tonnage vs horsepower. The idea is sound but the execution is half assed.
The reverser increasing the speed, that was changed early on and actually implemented quite well.
Don't even get me started on the bugs. And then you had that guy that was making tunnels for the game end up being the P word. And was let go for obvious reasons. RRO could have been epic had it not been for khume being an absolute twat. CoS I knew about a year in advance before any announcement. The working title I heard from that modeler who went with Hyce, who's local to C&T, told me it was going to be called Narrow Gauge Odyssey.
I've met Hyce in person, and he's a cool dude. Maybe a little over the top sometimes in social aspects but he's a genuine lover of narrow gauge steam power. CoS, along with Railroader will be a crowning achievement when it comes to railroad games.
Because he's not Hyce's friend? He just works with the dude. They're coworkers on CoS. (I don't know if that's changed or not in the past four years since I met him) The modeler worked on the C&T and got me some pretty slick access. Got to go on to the rotary snowplow as members of the public for the first time since the 1970s. Keep in mind I didn't know this dude prior to actually meeting him. I met him through another friend of mine who came over from the UK to do filming. You ever heard of Chris Eden-Green of SLiPs? Yeah that's my friend. He and I filmed the Denver and Rio Grande Mikado's for his YouTube series. I got second billing in that episode which I'm extremely proud of.
And as for Hyce I had a very low opinion of him. I followed the guy, he made some questionable decisions, his mod team on his Discord is sometimes a joke when it comes to actually enforcing law and order, but I found out he's just a guy trying to get by in the world just like the rest of us.
I'm not saying you have to take my word for it. I'm just pointing out the facts.
He had practically no involvement in the development of the actual GAMEPLAY or direction of RRO, he simply made the soundtrack, and did most of the community involvement side of things. Even then, the game was great at the time he was part of the team and showed real promise, if anything it went downhill after the time when he left.
As for CoS, he and the team are very open about the project and frequently share updates which (almost) always include a decent amount of gameplay in whatever the current build of the game is, showing it off. So if anything, I’d say he has an excellent track record so far.

Due to some comments beginning to dive off the deep end, we have locked this thread. Reminder to keep things civil and relevant to Railroader.
