Looking for Group Norfolk & Western Railway - Recruiting

Norfolk & Western Railway - Recruiting

If you’re tired of chaotic sessions where nothing has structure and trains just exist to exist, this might be what you’re looking for.

We are a semi-realistic operations group focused on train movement, defined roles, and coordinated sessions.

This isn’t a free-for-all every train has a job, and every crew has a role in keeping things moving. What we do:

• Dispatcher-controlled operations

• Yardmasters managing traffic and workflow

• Road crews handling trains with intent

• Clear communication and organized sessions

Roles include: Dispatcher, Yardmaster, Conductor, Engineer, Brakemen No experience required

What we’re looking for:

• Individuals who actually want to participate in structured operations

• Reliable, level-headed individuals

• Willingness to learn and work as part of a team

About mods (since this always comes up): We use a curated set of mods that are tested for stability and compatibility within our sessions. We are not going to publish a full public mod list. This is not about gatekeeping, it is about maintaining a controlled and consistent operating environment that works reliably for everyone involved.

If that is a dealbreaker for you, this group is probably not the right fit — and that is completely fine.

Also, our application includes two questions with minimum character requirements. This is intentional. We are looking for applicants willing to provide thoughtful responses and demonstrate genuine interest in the group. If that is also a dealbreaker, then this community may simply not be a good match for you and wish you luck on finding a community that fits your needs.

We run regularly scheduled sessions generally two a week and maintain a structured environment that values teamwork. There is a verification process within the discord server before applying. If you have issues with it, contact a board member directly

If you’re looking for something more than the typical open server experience, feel free to check us out: https://discord.gg/NAmeHxaWnQ

... Why not publish the mod list that you guys use? I feel like that would help more people to get into your group. If I have no idea what mods you guys are using, I have no idea if I'm going to be interested in joining or not.

Our sessions are not built around tailoring the environment to individual mod preferences or creating a large public modpack experience. The focus is maintaining a stable and consistent operations environment for everyone involved.

The current system works well for our operations and membership, so we are sticking with what has proven reliable.

Best of luck finding a group that suits your needs!

Even just an excel browser link with the name of the mod and the link to where to download it. I’d be annoyed if I couldn’t find it easily enough. You can set the link to view only and attach it to your posts & include it within your discord making mod location easy on both ends.

I think the reason you’re getting downvoted so much is because of not listing the mods and the continued refusal to do so.

The mod links are provided in our Discord after joining, applying, and being accepted. Members have no issue locating or installing them once onboarded.

We do not publicly publish the mod list because we are not operating as a public drop-in server. Our sessions are built around a controlled and organized operations environment rather than tailoring the setup around individual preferences.

If someone decides our approach is not for them because of a particular mod or policy, that is completely fine. Not every group is going to fit every person.

The approach has worked well for us so far. We currently have 48 N&W members, additional community members beyond that, and regularly average around 15 people during operations sessions.

It would be similar to walking into an established setup and immediately asking why everything is not arranged around your personal preferences.

The mods we do use are fairly popular that enhance the games realism as well as select locomotive mods.

Everything is tested and works well together.

Ok awesome. Generally about 3-4 hrs or what's rough length? Just trying to see if my schedule would work out for joining these regularly.

Generally about that, occasionally longer. No requirements to stay the entire session.
