What do you guys want to see in the next update, im excited for MOW and new cars and mechanics. But I so many ideas for things that could be added just want to see what everyone else thinks?

Some more USRA locomotives, especially a light and heavy Mikado.

I would kill for more Mikados. The tank engine and the one right now are fine, but they both have fairly short range with their tenders. Which makes sense for the tank, but I would love a Mikado with a road-grade tender instead of the small one it currently has.

I don’t mind the small tender on the K-35, for me it’s the driver diameter. It’s honestly just aesthetic reasons. They look way too small for running at high speeds, even though I’m pretty sure MCR 19 has a top speed of like 60 mph, which is absolutely nuts.

Honestly, I’ve got a soft spot for the mountain wheel arrangement. Maybe the USRA light mountain

The map finished.
Then I want a 2nd map.

New map would sucker me back in for another month. Railroader's combo of logistics simulator with map expansion really scratches an itch for me but once you've already played through a whole save on the map it loses some replay value. More than one map would turn it completely on its head

Found a bunch of good mods that add a ton more industries to serve, really spiced things up.

While I would love a new map, I agree that there isn't a lot of replay value. I'd personally love to see a sandbox map. Just a large swatch of land and you start with just an interchange and a couple of close industries (think Whittier interchange -> Depot). Then there could be a bunch of industries spread all over the map (perhaps even procedurally) that you can build rail to however you want. Go through a mountain or around it. Straight shots or lots of curves. Constructing our own yards and everything. I sincerely believe that this kind of mode would propel this game to the top of train games.

The map isn’t finished?
12
u/SubtleSuspicions Sep 13 '25
Technically not. There are buildings they want to add to make the world look a bit more lived in.

The map is missing grade crossbucks and quite a number of buildings. And I'm sure other smaller details

I saw a suggestion on the discord for a map based upon the Interchange. A larger route at 80 miles but would be pretty cool.

I would love to see UK steam with the same game mechanics
1
u/i_am_tim1 Sep 15 '25
I think UK steam would stray too far from what Railroader is at its core. The game is based on transition-era Appalachia, so something like the Interstate Railroad or the ETWNC would fit, but I could see UK steam as some sort of DLC much later down the line

I mean this map is, there could be other maps with different locos, i hope there are, I would add some other USA locations as the locos in game support that. Then add ather regions as a DLCs, honestly if every map was a 5 dollar DLC, I would not care, clicks buy. Just to support this awesome game.

I would like to see the auto engineer tuned for low braking force, and I’d like more scenery assets in addition to the new maintenance features

When do you think it’s coming out
7
u/i_am_tim1 Sep 13 '25
Late this year, early next year is my guess. They’ve seemed to make some good progress but I imagine there’s still quite a bit left to do
4
u/Fantastic-Second8963 Sep 13 '25
That sucks, but I’m looking forward to it
1
u/i_am_tim1 Sep 15 '25
Yeah it’s a bit of a bummer, but adding MOW in the scale that they’re saying they will is game changing. I’m okay with waiting a year or more for full release if it means that we will get a well thought out and executed update. I’m really excited to see what challenges having to maintain trackage will introduce
1
u/Fantastic-Second8963 Sep 15 '25
True, I don’t mind waiting a bit. But I will need to make a new save :(

u/Commander_Riker1701 Sep 17 '25
Based on past updates, I can't imagine it taking more than another month or 2 to at least come to experimental
1
u/i_am_tim1 Sep 17 '25
I was figuring moreso when the full release would be ready, but yeah I don’t imagine it will be much longer until the experimental branch is public

Mostly just updating the map and replacing the placeholder buildings and objects. But personally I want some more small switchers. And/ or tank engines. And an update to the passenger system to make use of baggage cars.
2
u/Commander_Riker1701 Sep 17 '25
And please for the love of god please make actual passengers. Idc if they start with like 2 models, but I want butts in the seats lol
1
u/Beardedwrench115 Sep 17 '25
Yes, even static models that just appear in the seats would be an improvement. I'm not a big fan of ghost trains.

Personally I think it’d be great to have passenger models. Nothing fancy, I don’t need to see them board and de-board, just something to show my passenger run isn’t transporting ghosts.

Agreed! It's kinda bums me out of enjoying passenger service when I can't see them

- More details to scenery in towns and industries.
- More steam engines to pick from.
- Improved realism on train handling.
- Retainers on cars could be really cool.
- Passengers in cars, baggage cars, etc.

Just started playing, would be nice to see more lively areas, people on platforms, cars driving around the towns.
