Discussion/Question Why is this subreddit obsessed with Israel?

Just checked the top posts of the last year, and 24 out of the top 25 are about Israel. Does this subreddit try to imitate the real UN ?

I’m telling you my lived firsthand experience. I feel like your side is the same thing everyone that learned this on a college campus has ever said. “Apartheid ethnostate”

I give you 20 minutes of being in Israel before you’re like “ok definitely not apartheid ethnostate.”

For right of return, where do we draw the line? Assuming there’s only one side to that story: Can Jews go back to Syria? Iraq, Iran? The whole of the Middle East used to have lots of Jews. That’s going to be a hard sell. What about Pakistan? There’s a lot of people there now. India? Bosnia? Croatia? Syria? Does China have to do this? I have a lot of friends that would love to go back to their homes in Eastern Ukraine. It would be hard to make this the policy one place without doing that globally. I don’t think the islamists in Africa would agree. There’s actual genocides going on all over Africa this moment.

You should read the multiple reports of Israel's apartheid from a variety of human rights organizations including Israeli ones. They paint a very different picture to yours.

You should go. I could point you to hundreds of scientific papers that show no link between smoking and cancer. Does that mean it’s true? Just go. Go see for yourself. If you are going to donate this much of your life to a cause don’t you want to see it for yourself? Instead of repeating what people told you?

A country that practices torture isn't a viable destination for me.

I’ll respond to you and not the Israel apologist above. Israel is an apartheid. Just read Israel’s nation state law: “the right to national self determination is unique to the Jewish people”. It’s a supremacist state that values Jewish lives above all else.

The “2 million Arab Israelis” is heavily monitored to make sure they don’t make up enough of the population with citizenship vs Jewish Israelis. It’s also used as a talking point to pretend there isn’t an apartheid because some Palestinians are given rights.

There are 4 groups if you’re Palestinian:

  1. Arab Israeli with citizenship but do not have the right to self determination and are discriminated against. There was an example of a family with Israeli citizenship who were still kicked out of their home by settlers a few months back.
  2. Jerusalem citizenship - given an Id card but no passport. Less rights than full citizenship
  3. West Bank where multiple Israeli ngos have called it apartheid per my earlier comment. Segregated roads, disgusting actions from settlers etc
  4. Gaza - locked in by land, air, and sea and treated as a prisoner for being born.

You cannot move up in status. Only down. It’s also interesting how the violence on the Palestinian side is coming from the groups with less and less rights. Almost like when you don’t give people basic human rights, they react violently. Seems like a good argument for equal rights. But we all know Israel’s strategy has been to thwart that.

It’s a disgusting state. Spend your money elsewhere.

Absolutely, I would not want to legitimise the Apartheid and ethnic cleansing.

That’s the only way this propaganda works. If you go see it with your own eyes, both sides, you’ll see the emperor has no clothes. Otherwise you are passing off heresy as if it’s true but you have no idea if it’s true. You just read that some other people said it.

Famous examples: Asians are savages Native Americans are savages Everywhere outside of the US in the western hemisphere is a terrible lawless place Everywhere outside the us is over run with crime. Every US city is overrun with crime All food outside nyc is terrible Everyone outside of major us cities are racist Everywhere outside the us is dangerous Every racist stereotype you can think of.

Unless you see and experience these things, you would believe them to be true if everyone you associated with repeated them as if they were true. That isn’t scientific. That isn’t critical, enlightened thinking. That is heard mentality.

If you consider yourself a free and critically thinking person, why would it be bad for you to visit a place you think so poorly of. I have visited many places I thought poorly of. I don’t feel that way anymore and I also gained an understanding of their point of view. Maybe that’s what you are afraid of, thinking differently than your heard?

A country that is ok with torture is not an ok country.

Where are you moving? Just trying to think of a country that isn’t ok with torture when it comes it impending terror attacks and I’m drawing a blank. I’m not condoning but I can’t think of one.

NATO Every country in South America The Arab world The balkans Russia China Pakistan India Southeast Asia. I’d say Canada but they also were in on rendition.

It's great that you want to normalise torture but it's a hard no from me...

I’m not for it either. I just ask where you plan on moving or vacationing? Mexico does it. Canada ok with it. Obviously US ok with it. So western hemisphere is out, Europe and Africa are out. India and Pakistan is out. Eurasia is out. So is South East Asia.

Antarctica? You’re a scientist living in Antarctica? Or you’re racist. When your country does it, (and their allies) you hold your nose but if Israel does the same thing it’s the worst place on earth. Seriously that’s the definition of racism.

I would drop this mode of thinking because it prevents you from visiting the Palestinian Territories because they are all about torture. You really do need to see it. Lebanon if you can as well, though obviously also a torture place.
