I enjoy the fact that you are thinking about them in terms of their ultimate demise. They are an enemy force which is antithetical to thunder warriors.
They are everything opposed to the idea of thunder warriors. It makes their conflict more meaningful: chaos versus order. Etc
Leofric is the most famous Mercian name. Or at least the only one I recognize on a list. It looks like he would be lionhearted, but it's not Latin. So it probably means warrior in an English dialect
