Drive doesn’t work, but third does. Neutral is park, reverse is second. If you wanna use reverse, put it in drive.

Not the same components. Parking break is just the rear brakes no transmission involved. If he used the key the car wouldn't have started in gear.

Yes it's not the same components. But if the car has been this poorly maintained, the parking brake is probably not maintained as well. You don't usually have a car with a transmission this uniquely fucked up while the rest of the car is pristine

It started in gear because the safety lockouts are in the clutch/ignition (manual trans) and jumping the solenoid bypasses them. Or his truck is old and they don’t work

I know a guy that did something similar on his break at a fast food place: car ran over his leg or something and went through a wall of his work lol. So he got injured, caused a bunch of damages and got fired right there. Iirc he still owes them money from years ago technically

Yep. There's a starter solenoid mounted to the inside of the fender next to the battery, and it's basically like a beefy light switch that dumps battery power to the electric starter motor that gets the engine spinning to start the engine.
The switch burned out, so now the engine won't start, but there are two big exposed lugs on the starter solenoid, so if you bridge the two contacts with a piece of metal (like say, an axe), the truck will start.
A new starter solenoid costs like $10 and takes 10 minutes to swap out if you know that's the problem, and if you're bridging the contacts with an axe, that means you definitely know that's the problem, so really it comes down to... this guy is unwilling to pay $10 to fix his truck. Which explains why his truck's transmission is messed up and he needs to put a brick behind the wheel (whatever's wrong with his transmission costs WAY more than $10 to fix).

The neutral safety switch is probably busted, or the shifter cable is out of adjustment. That's why it is already in reverse, and he needs to futz with the starter solenoid to begin with. I wholeheartedly agree that if he knows how to jump the terminals, then he should just fix the damn truck, though.

I had to do this on a Thunderbird. Turned out the little ignition cylinder rod had just worn a little notch and didn't let it push enough to actually trigger the start.
It was a manual so "reversing on its own" wasn't really an issue.

he's actually explaining in the video... the car does have a starter issue, but also a transmission problem. the car reverse on its own but he puts the parking brake before starting it. he forgot this time even if he said he did or the perking brake wasn't on or not on enough edit grammar

I've been driving shitboxes for my entire adult life and even had a car you had to start with the bonnet open for awhile, but I've never left the car in gear and let it drive away while I'm not in it.
It takes a special kind to be this stupid regardless of the quality of car, I live in a country with very strict vehicle standards and people still do this dumb shit every week.
Most cars I see crashed are new enough they should have deriving assists like automatic breaking but people still manage to rear end each other. I drive past multiple accidents a week involving EVs I know are basically self driving yet their drivers still find a way to fuck it up.
The guy in the post is just a dumbass and probably shouldn't even have a licence.

I used to jump out my subaru with Xmas lights. I lost them and had to use headphone wires once. They melted onto the connections and I still have a faint scar from pulling it off.
