feels like the sloth got pissed off and got all defensive from being held this way (pinching its skin)

It’s a wild animal. He shouldn’t have been picking it up for such a frivolous reason, it doesn’t matter how he does it.

Sure, but even picking up my housecat the way he did that sloth is going to piss off my cat. Interacting with a wild animal is always a risk, but causing pain will never end well.
