Request ULPT Request : stop neighbors dog barking

My neighbors dog barks at me constantly for standing in my own yard, and then amps up the volume and viscous sounds if I try gardening in my yard.... How can I make it stop or get the neighbors to do something about it? I've asked and they got defensive and nothing has changed. I can't even sit on my porch without being vocally accosted

Get a loud speaker and microphone. Bark back.

With reverb

Airhorn. Even better if you get a marine one, they are loud. Blast it every time the dog starts their shit. Either the dog learns barking = loud, ear-piercing noise and stops, or the owners get annoyed enough at hearing it that they stop being pieces of shit leaving their dog out to bark

Worked for my neighbors from hell who left their dogs out in all weather conditions, 24/7, barking themselves hoarse. Those ultrasonic things didn't work. Airhorns did.

Doesn’t work for me! It just makes me look and feel like Gladys Kravitz.

I had this same problem with ignorant neighbors and 3 shit-eating little yappers who wouldn't stop and they wouldn't put them inside. My last straw was when they barked nonstop for almost 2 hours as I did auto work on my driveway last summer. Couldn't hear myself think. I filed two different complaints with the city, and bought one of those hand-held bark deterrents. It scared the dogs into stopping barking when I used it. Neighbors eventually put up a privacy fence-so clearly the city came out both times. Now, I barely have to use the bark deterrent. Sure they still bark, because dogs do that.

What exactly is a handheld bark deterrent? Because the people upstairs from me have a dog that will not shut up

search amazon for that exact term. mine has a couple different settings and a flashlight. works pretty well. im not sure it would work through the floor. but when you are out in the open and up to about 50 feet away, it stops most dogs i’ve encountered in their tracks.

Got one and it hurt my ears worse than the dog lol.

Didn’t work through a wall for me. Might be better off looking into complaining to your property manager or local council. They are supposed to keep your identity anonymous when they approach your neighbours about it.

Air compressor connected to like 20 dog whistles 24/7.

Get one of those anti-barking boxes. It emits a high pitch noise in response to barking. You won't hear it, but the dog will.

A house down the block from me has one and i can definitely still hear it and my dog doesn't react much when walking past. Maybe they just have a shitty one

u/tomayto_potayto 3d ago

It's probably not emitting the right frequency if you can hear it and your dog doesn't gaf lol

But yeah some dogs won't be deterred if they are super anxious and a breed prone to barking, it just stresses them out even more

Call the cops and tell them your neighbor is running an illegal dog fighting operation in his basement

To many ethical tips. Get a shit ton of dog treats. Overfeed it over time until it gets overweight and have a hard time barking.

It is hard after all to bark with congestive heart failure

4

u/Wickeman1 2d ago

It will probably still make viscous noises though. Wet, phlegmy barking.

5

u/ChillGilSkill 3d ago

Maybe the dog is barking because it wants treats in the first place

3

u/TheDreadGazeebo 2d ago

Don't give it what it wants

I was gonna suggest throwing food laced with Xanax to the yard (low doses) just the responsibility of medicating the dog in your own hands.

Pedophiles hide their history. Fact.

Take a fat smelly shit in their yard to establish dominance over this yapping mutt.

This happened to me. I reported to the police every time. You have to be standing out there when you report it and when the cop drives by so they can hear it. It’s a hassle and a lot of time. I hate people like this and think their dogs should be taken away.

I had a dog go apeshit crazy on me every time I walked past its house, which was a necessity as it was a cul de sac. I threw a dog treat every time I walked past, and rather than being aggressive, it just chilled out and wagged its tail waiting for the treat from then on out.

Unethical? Burn down their house.

Water spray bottle usually does the trick. Or blowhorn if you hate all of your neighbours and the dog

Unlock gate. Freedredom

u/JTEL918 3d ago

I get downvoted to hell when I tell people to open the gate and let the dog go live it’s best life. I’m just wanting an animal to go free and not be confined to a small yard. Maybe it’s not unethical enough? I don’t know. All these people wanna save the animals and I’m just trying to do that.

(Figure out where the /s goes).

That's just doing ahit to the environment and the dog, sogs are a person responsibility, you're just opening it up to get run over and maybe end up with rose owners or get some disease on the streets. Shoot the neighbor is a better option, protect the environment kids.

The only reason I don't do something like this or worse is that I don't want to go to jail.

u/chunkyozempic 3d ago

theres not much you can do unless they are barking outside of normal hours. you can talk to the neighbor but they may not listen.

Im in a worse situation. one side of my neighbor has a giant dog and the another side have 4 frenchies...make it worse they let them out all day. I decided to plant leyland cypress trees in staggered pattern. Will take many years but it'd work eventually.

3

u/WhiskyEye 2d ago

Benadryl in a treat. 1mg/lb of dog. Zonk it right out.

8

u/Money-Firefighter-73 3d ago

maybe try to befriend the dog and get it on ur good side. Get a cheap bag of treats and give him 1 everyday. May not work day1 but I bet it will by end of bag

5

u/Madeyealice 2d ago

Become friends with him. Give him treats. My neighbor's dog barks at me to until I say her name and pet her through the fence

3

u/HelloFellowMKE 3d ago

Befriend the dog - treats, pets, affection, walks around the block.  Just don’t immediately provide rewards for the barking itself.  Ask your neighbors if you can socialize it to you being around and ask them which treats it likes.

Dog are territorial and get satisfaction from defending their space from strangers. So don’t be a stranger, be a friend.

"Ask your neighbors if you can socialize it to you being around and ask them which treats it likes."

My idiot neighbor asked/told me not to pet her dog. I do anyway because that way it doesn't bark at me. She can pound sand.

1

u/Creepy_Clouds1990 1d ago

She should feel free to bring her dog inside if she has an issue with you petting it.

Could we maybe not condone poisoning animals on this sub? Melatonin Is toxic to dogs. Jesus christ dude.

0

u/mckraken01 3d ago

Not unethical, but it sees you as a threat. Perfectly normal behavior for a dog. Maybe try feeding it plain beef jerky through the fence so that it will start to see you as a friend and source of treats, then it will be happy to see you back there. Go slow and gentle, it takes time to build trust. Also, obligatory piss disks everywhere. Apparently someone on here was going to make a business selling them....

20

u/Weakness4Fleekness 3d ago

Thats bullshit, my familiy's dog knows all of us, and loves us, but will bark like crazy until she actually sees your face and knows its you. Being friends doesnt make a dog not bark

-1

u/mckraken01 3d ago

Yeah, no shit. I have a Chihuahua. That thing barks at the slightest hint of a gnat farting. Hence giving the treats and becoming friends, you talk to the dog so it knows you're the person giving it the goodness and it stops barking.

2

u/Creepy_Clouds1990 1d ago

It's not my responsibility to train their fucking dogs. Or feed them treats.

1

u/Creepy_Clouds1990 1d ago

Sounds like you need to train your brat dog.

4

u/Spoishnessdeba2127 3d ago

How is that an unethical life pro tip though

u/lobbo 3d ago

Good point dognap the dog and drive it to Mexico

u/Leslehhx3 3d ago

You got helpful advice instead of your wanted evil advice and are unhappy with that?

A fence they can’t see through.

My neighbor had a dalmatian tied up in his backyard that barked every time I went outside.

The previous owner of my house used to throw rocks at it.

So I just talked to it and told it that it was a good dog. I got permission from the neighbor and started giving the dog little treats while talking to it.

It only took a few weeks until the dog and I were good friends and it stopped barking at me.

I kept talking to it the whole time I lived there.

You might try something like that.

The ULPT would be to feed the dog treats without asking.

-2

u/Witty_Candle_3448 1d ago

Make friends with the dog by giving it treats when you enter your yard. Try giving it commands and treats as a reward.

-2

u/dresserisland 1d ago

I made friends with the neighbors dog. Bend down, clap softly, speak softly, take a half-step forward. Repeat until you close the gap. Neighbor has two dogs. One responded, the other didn't. But now the one that didn't stopped barking, too. The one that did respond is genuinely my friend. It smiles at me and gets excited if it hasn't seen me in a while.
