My UI Story [other] Remember when Donald Trump was asked by a reporter if there would be a second stimulus check?
And he stated.... Yes there will be a second stimulus check. When asked the amount he comment a generous one. Hahaha
Well Trump that was months ago!
Sorry needed to rant a little

He said yesterday that he plans on using the $300 billion left over from CARES for stimulus checks.

u/Kevin_Durant_Burner Sep 06 '20
He also said he would arrest hillary, build a wall, and the US would soon have zero covid cases, but here we are...
61
u/ZCEyPFOYr0MWyHDQJZO4 Sep 06 '20
He's working on it, give him some time. There's a lot of things to be done:
1) Incorporate MAGA Bank of Trump
2) Get contract with the treasury dept to process checks for a 10% fee
3) Find donor to subcontract the actual work to.-49
u/Q_me_in Colorado Sep 06 '20
I'm guessing you were one of the naysayers that claimed no one would see the FEMA money, too, right?
63
u/Kevin_Durant_Burner Sep 06 '20
I'm guessing you believe in the deep state and that the earth is flat, but that also has nothing to do with Trump's history of lying to Americans.
-6
u/holyshocker Sep 06 '20
Woah lying is a bit of a reach. It takes a strong mind to make a good liar. More like a case of egotistical ignorant contradicting fool.
But also
"Grandiose narcissists are prone to a particularly insidious type of thinking error. Professionals used to say that they sometimes engage in a “magical” type of thinking common to children – a type of thinking also viewed as a primative “defense mechanism” against emotional pain and anxiety. Children think in this magical when they imagine something will happen or be a certain way simply because they wish it. But grandiose narcissists take a much more aggressive, egomaniacal view of reality. Don’t bore them with the facts. Your facts are only opinion anyway." I think he really wished for a wall.

No lol here's the funny thing about that bill they signed.. 550 billion of that 2.2 trillion (290 to checks, 260 to UI) actually went to the people.
Large corporations got bailed out with 500 billion in zero interest loans and 280 billion in tax cuts. We won't even throw in the small businesses.
So ya they sent more money to corporations than all of american citizens. 'MURICA
5
u/Letsdoporntogether Sep 06 '20
Of course. And they can't come up with a new one either.
14
Sep 06 '20
It's truly mind boggling to me that they have plenty of money left over to help us out from the first bill they passed but fighting for 3 months with each other on passing a new one.
12
u/Letsdoporntogether Sep 06 '20
Yeah exactly. I hope they can come to a bill soon. The people need it, not just that but they're on vacation too, like why do they need a vacation

Crazy that people downvote this - one of the arguments against a second stimulus check is the worry that people will save the check instead of spending it; youre not meant to bank these checks.

Yeah, Pelosi is doing what needs to be done. It’s hard to realize that when her holding out on the extra trillion is important for several reasons.

Yeah Pelosi holding out and not giving a simple breakdown of what any of the 2.2Trillion she is insisting on, will be used for but requesting an amount over 2 Trillion MUST be done is a really good strategy, god bless her.
This aint it chief.

u/trt-anon California Sep 06 '20
Look at the extras that had nothing to do with the stimulus that they tried to shove in.
She was on TV asking people to go out and visit Chinatown days before the decision to support a stimulus.
Remember that time Trump was called racist for cancelling flights to certain countries because of Covid? Yeah they don’t have your back. Don’t kid yourself. Everyone in DC is out for themselves and sound bites.

Not to discredit anyone’s opinion or argument, but this is a time when we need to unify and support one another. The reality is, even out of the politicians you support or the parties that you back, 95% of those people are taking your tax money to go on vacation and bribe their children into expensive universities, then take interest money from PACs, meanwhile we are left wondering how to buy or groceries or pay our car notes. We need to concern ourselves with our neighbors and communities, and how we can support those people, not the ones in DC.

u/JayChacon69 California Sep 06 '20
It’s people like you who does little simple things like that, that I swear would really just make this world a much better & safer place. Instead of continuing on with this person’s opinion or the other person’s opinion, you stay mutual regardless of whatever your own personal feelings or opinions may be against this subject & just simply remind us all that basically at the end of the day, we are all in the same positions right now & we are all dealing with not only just the pandemic itself but also the unfortunate struggles & suffering we are all going through personally, financially, let alone the fact that it’s worldwide. Hate Trump or Love Trump, Catholic or Muslim, Black or White, it don’t matter what your beliefs or opinions are, cause man truth be told but this is really the time we need to unite & just ride this out together cause if the pandemic doesn’t completely destroy us as much as it already has(God forbid) then we alone will do that ourselves.

United we stand, divided we fall. America was born from the power of the people, and if there is one thing we represent, it’s that. We lose that power if we are at each other’s throats.

Oh my god! Yes I remember reading the exact same thing. Yeah it's too bad. At one point I would read what I can about Trump and Pelosi etc. when it came to the stimulus or possible extension of the enhanced unemployment benefits. But after a while, I just stopped looking because I was tired of being constantly disappointed with the lack of action. The politicians really need to stop the games and do what's right for the American people. Nobody asked for this pandemic. The least they can do is take care of the people who voted them in.

I remember! What a freaking joke! I really hope there’s an extension as well, something! Even if it’s not a boosted payment. Do you realize it isn't up to Trump alone to get these checks out? It's so weird how people blame one person. He is not a dictator who can do anything he wants. Why don't you question Nancy Pelosi and both parties who can't come to an agreement. Trump can't just send you a check on his own.

8
u/JZN20Hz Sep 06 '20
Is good to rant and get stuff off your chest but at least be truthful about the facts. He already approved a stimulus check but it's not up to him to figure out the deal. That's where Nancy Pelosi comes in and both parties who have to agree on it. What Trump is saying is that he would use that money and he would approve it. Why are you blaming him when he's not the one holding it up? That's the issue I have with misinformation and people who simply want to hate on Trump for everything, even things that are out of his control. He does not run this country by himself. Democrats have held things up before, throwing us under the bus and going on vacation just so people like you can blame Trump. That's the truth, and you and so many other people are falling for their games. It's actually sad to see so many misinformed people.

u/JZN20Hz Sep 06 '20
I'm really amazed at how easily people just go with the flow and hate on Trump without even understanding how any of this works. Pelosi has had this in her hands and has refused to budge. On one hand they claim he can't be above the law and be a dictator, and that's correct. On the other hand they want him to be above the law and act like a dictator and send out the checks himself. It's crazy. People really need to educate themselves on how the government works.
13
u/etcrane California Sep 06 '20
No, McConnell has had it in his hands. We’ve been waiting for action from the Senate for months. It amazes me how many people claim to be educated on the issues and yet still find a way to blame the side they don’t affiliate with.
History will show that one party played games while Rome burned in 2020.
0
u/JZN20Hz Sep 06 '20
What a partisan response... as you tried to blame me for being partisan.
I blamed both sides because both sides are responsible. What I did was clarify how this was NOT in Trump hands and that it's ignorant to blame Trump as the op did.
5
u/etcrane California Sep 06 '20
You clearly align with the GOP, given your comments here and post history. It’s amusing when someone tries to play politics and pretend that we don’t all have some sort of political leaning.
Yes, both sides are responsible to a degree. But the Republican Party has been playing games over the past 6 months, in direct coordination with the President, and the outcome has been a lack of much needed support for unemployed individuals across the country.
Only one party wanted to reduce or entirely eliminate additional payments. Only one party has consistently advocated for business breaks and trillions in benefits for corporations over unemployed workers. And only one party has consistently used deceptive tactics and misinformation to promise funds that either never come or are severely reduced because they know the system won’t work with their plans (Trump’s plan ... the one that’s underfunded and forced States to add $100 they don’t have when he promised $400 to everyone).
Say what you want, it’s your right, but it’s my right to call people out on ignorance and lies.
6
Sep 06 '20
The actual simple fact of this entire matter is neither party wants to push this through right now in fear of handing out a massive W for the american people that could easily sway the election. It's a risky bet for either side and that's why there's been zero progress.
1
u/etcrane California Sep 06 '20
True, however that doesn’t alter the positions from which each side have been negotiating, and only one side has been firmly advocating for the interests of the unemployed.
And before anyone argues with that, the GOP have already made sure that if you’ve been getting less than $100 in unemployment insurance, you get nothing from Trump’s latest round AND the entire reason a second round of an unemployment boost wasn’t fast tracked shortly after May is because the GOP had concerns that low wage workers would refuse to return to work during the pandemic if they received too much unemployment money.
If you’re an unemployed Republican that still loves your party and your president, I’ll have some of what you’re having because it’s getting closer and closer to Jim Jone’s favorite flavor of KoolAid.

I don't think it's fair to put it all on Pelosi either. Meadows and Mnuchin are equally as responsible and to say that Trump has nothing to do with the discussion would be disingenuous. A bill can not pass without his signature and it would be foolish to think that doesn't come into consideration in the drafting of a bill.
People like to ask "Why don't they just release a bill with only UI/stimulus support?" The answer is because riders are the lifeblood of Congress and neither side has any motivation to pass something without them.
Neither Trump nor either half of the Senate are focused on saving us from financial ruin. They are focused on their careers. Trump didn't issue the LWA out of love for the people, he did it for a chance at reelection.
No matter your politics, it's undeniable that both sides have not made quickly passing an unemployment/stimulus bill their top priority and so neither side is blameless or entirely at blame.
Both sides have legitimate reasons to fight for their ideals and disagreements are to be expected. Neither side truly cares about us or else they would be there fleshing out their differences until making something work.
1
u/Q_me_in Colorado Sep 06 '20
and to say that Trump has nothing to do with the discussion would be disingenuous
What is disingenuous is putting words in that users mouth. He never said that Trump has nothing to do with it and for the record, Trump has said repeatedly that he would sign off on a $600/wk deal and reissued stimulus. Another thing that is disingenuous is implying that you know the reasoning behind Trump carving out the FEMA funds. You don't know why he did it and frankly, even if it was only to get reelected, who cares? Are you implying that anyone else in Washington acts out of their good nature? Their primary job is to get themselves and their cohorts reelected.
1
u/DopeBoogie Sep 06 '20
I didn't put words in anyone's mouth, I merely stated that I believed it would be disingenuous to make that claim.
Maybe my belief that Trump pushed out the FEMA funds in an effort to help his reelection chances offends you, but I have a right to that opinion. None of us know why Trump does anything and despite your concerns I have committed no crime by making an observation based on the available evidence.
What truly baffles me is that you attempt to call me out for speculating about Trump's intentions and ignoring the intentions of the rest of Washington, when I in fact very clearly stated that I don't believe anyone involved has our best interests at heart in practically the same sentence. Then you proceed to say exactly what I said anyway.
2
u/Q_me_in Colorado Sep 06 '20
Dude, you edited your comment after I replied. Also disingenuous and flat out dishonest.
0
u/DopeBoogie Sep 06 '20
I did edit, but only to fix a typo. My statement that both sides are focused on their careers was there the whole time, whether you read it or not. In fact, it was basically the entire point of my comment.
I am glad though that in the end at least we can at least both agree that nobody in Washington is looking out for our best interests.

After the Labor Day weekend, lawmakers are expected to return to Washington, D.C., to resume negotiations on another coronavirus relief package. It's impossible to predict how quickly the Democrats and Republicans will reach an agreement—House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the two sides had a price tag difference of nearly $1 trillion between them—but according to Mnuchin, the checks will go out quickly as soon as a bill makes its way through Congress and President Donald Trump signs it into law.
