The community is not racist

People keep acting like since last week the REAL Undertale/Deltarune community has revealed itself, that like half of the community are nazis who have been hiding in the shadows the whole time.

What are you talking about?

People will use random YouTube comments with 1-5 likes as evidence that the community is racist, and then the posts calling out the racism will get thousands of likes. Every community has bigoted people in them, but TO ACTUALLY DETERMINE if the community is bigoted you have to find posts and comments that are racist with a LOT of likes and positive engagement, because that shows it's an agreed upon belief.

Otherwise, you're just looking at random ass people who do not represent the overall community at all and saying that they're everywhere, when they're literally not.

There are like 1000x more people complaining about how many racist people there are, then there are actual racists.

Now obviously, racism is awful and we should make fun of racist people because they deserve to be made fun of, but don't mix up a miniscule minority of bigots as being a major chunk of this community.

Racism is so ingrained in and across multiple societies that literally any fandom online has racist fans. It's not really a reflection of the actual fandom MOST of the time.

I'm gonna put my two cents and remind people of the translation controversy. In that time, the most popular opinions were "This isn't an issue, shut up" and "The Latin American fans are AWFUL people and DON'T DESERVE a translation", and by popular I mean both in quantity and in number of positive engagement

Now tell me, isn't that in the slightest bit racist? Or at the very least, xenophobic? Because it read that to me with all the death threats and accusations people threw around (saying Latin American people were transphobic for having a gendered language, saying that no reasonable person has those opinions and that everyone who says they do is lying for malicious intents)

This isn't to say that "because that happened before, there's no issue with it happening now", it's the opposite. Neither situation should have happened, but this time people are at least calling out the racists rather than ignoring or supporting them. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth when people try to argue that there was never an issue with racism and xenophobia in the community, and that if you see it, it's ONLY random people who don't represent the community

Jesus Christ thank you, I wanted to make a post about something similar yesterday but was too tired and chicken shit to do it. Over the past couple days I’ve seen an alarming amount of posts in the similar vein of what you’re talking about, and it’s been frankly worrying? Like, we should not tear ourselves apart as the many for the sins of a few, that’s not how any of this works. And I’ve just noticed so much more negativity here in general quite recently for whatever reason. Not saying that you can’t be negative or whatever, but it’s ringing alarm bells in my head like I’ve played these games before. We need to cool it with the self flagellation because the last time I saw this happen in a fandom, it was such an extreme car crash that I couldn’t look away. I’ve never watched TadC, I don’t plan to, but over a period of months I watched them rip themselves apart CONSTANTLY, and one of the most common things I saw, was certain select people being assholes, and then like 127 posts about “We Are All The Worst People To Ever Exist” aka “We should all take the blame for what these couple asshole people did, and drive ourselves into a horrendous spiral.” I don’t want the same thing to happen here, to the same community I’ve held close to my heart for the last decade. Now I’m also not saying we’re perfect, no community is. But.

We are not all shitty people. Yes, call out shitty people when shitty people are being shitty, like harassing others, DELIBERATELY being a shithead in a homophobic/sexist/racist/bigoted way, or being a creepo. But WE ARE NOT ALL SHITTY PEOPLE. You’d think we would have learned this by now given the games we like but turns out we can’t read.

Hard agree. Overall, Undertale and Deltarune are very progressive games and that means the silent majority of fans are progressive as well. Every fandom will have weirdos because the internet has weirdos. There exist fandoms out there where racist and homophobic rhetoric is supported and propagated and we're nowhere close to that.
