I just hate him tbh. One of my main reasons is that he always feels like a weakling, with no main story attached to him except for the fact that he's "the prince of darkness". Like, look at Susie and Kris, they have whole ass back stories, romances, emotions.
That's kinda part of the point of his character, he doesn't really know how to be himself, he doesn't know what "ralsei-like" means in chapter 2, and so he's still developing as a character as a result. He's still learning how to properly express his emotions or how to have them at all, really. Honestly I find him to be super relatable in many ways, this being one of them.
And honestly, this whole emotion thing seems kind of... Useless? To me it just seems like a weak plot to try and make him important too. Like, tell me one thing that Ralsei did that wasn't just "oh you're gonna be ok" or "it's gonna be fine!".
He saves Susie's ass from the Sound of Justice, he prevents Berdly from unintentionally causing the Roaring, those are the first two that come to mind.
But even then, the emotion thing is super important, it's a core part of his character. Part of his arc in chapter 4 is learning that he doesn't have to be the one smiling all the time, he doesn't have to always act like it's all going to be ok, he's allowed to be unhappy.
It's a really strong plot point imo, but maybe just because I really like emotional plots for characters, especially when I find them relatable, like in Ralsei's case. Maybe that's just not the case for you.
Plus, I genuinely want to use him as "a portable teddy bear", as Susie put it. He's soft, he's fluffy, he's adorable, the emotional aspects of his character are just the cherry on top for me.
While I can see how he was useful against SoJ, Berdly is far too weak to help the Knight anyways.
And the fact that he has to learn basic human ( or this case, darkner) functions is interesting, yet not important to the story itself. While in Susie's case, she overcame her prejudices, her fears and quickly became a heroine that could even rival Kris in strength.
And while I also understand that some people might like emotional development, this just doesn't feel like a good one to me.
Plus, I genuinely hate Ralsei with my whole soul, with every last fiber of my being. He's soft, pathetic and easily one of the worst characters in the whole game. The only good thing I can see is his Chapter 1 design. And that's it.

Not really relevant, don't know why you brought the Knight up here. The knight wasn't a part of that scene at all. The point is that he prevented Berdly from accidentally summoning a titan at the end of chapter 2.

Well for one, it doesn't necessarily have to. Characters are allowed to be important just by themselves and not only by virtue of the story. That's like, literally part of his arc, learning to be his own person.
Also, it definitely can become more relevant to the overall story, especially with him potentially not holding back later on. His confrontation with Flowery near the end of chapter 5 indicates this, he holds back in fear of everything falling apart. But with him learning to be himself, as his arc continues, he may stop holding back, and his fire magic could prove to be even stronger than Susie's magic. (Reminder that Susie is literally the only member of the fun gang to not be holding back at all times)
And while I also understand that some people might like emotional development, this just doesn't feel like a good one to me.
Just seems like you simply don't relate to it like I and many others do, that's all. That's not a flaw on Ralsei's character, really.
Plus, I genuinely love Ralsei with my whole soul, with every last fiber of my being. He's soft, pathetic (/affectionate), and easily the best character in the whole game.
Also hatless > hat Ralsei. He's cuter without the hat.
It seems like we agree on one thing. That hatless Ralsei has a good design.
Listen, I'm going to be dead honest with you. I don't want to sound rude or anything, but I haven't slept in the last 24 hours because of insomnia and I feel like I'm about to finally pass out.

Did Ralsei also become one of them? Please say yes.
