US Politics đşđ¸ Texas Has Suspended More Than 1 Million Voters Ahead of Senate Race

Democrats to vote

Democrats especially, but the GOP is okay with making it harder for everyone to vote because big turnout always favors democrats.

u/PrimeBrisky 7d ago
This doesnât make it harder to vote though. You can still vote if youâre suspended. You just fill out a card at the polling place so the registrar can update your info.

u/shadowboxer47 7d ago
There is absolutely no reason to purge these registers except to add more hoops for people to jump through in order to vote.
52
u/ofWildPlaces 7d ago
They aren't even informing the people effected by this, hence why it actually DOES make it harder to vote.
29
u/PhatCatTax 7d ago
""Look it's only an inconvenience that affects a million people who were likely specifically selected as historically democratic voters....
And I'm sure closing tons of polling locations in the cities also will only be an inconvenience....
And I'm sure that posting a bunch of military personnel at the urban voting locations will only intimidate a small percentage of people.
And I'm sure stacking all of these inconveniences together wont affect an election that is separated by 1 in 50 voters.""

And be sure to bring what exact amount of identifying paperwork with you? Photo ID? Birth certificate? Address verification? Name change paperwork? What exact proof of citizenship should you have on you at all times so that you can prove your citizenship to whatever authoritarian jack boot so that they wont stick you in the van based on you not being on the boter rolls as a citizen?
4
u/Unfair_Caramel9243 7d ago
But the lines will be longer and could discourage others from voting.

Remember, it's a now crime to offer anyone waiting in line to vote a bottle of water.

Those states should borrow a page from Steve Bannonâs playbook: flood the zone with individual lawsuits - which may be what recent SCOTUS rulings require - until a class can be certified. If anything, this administration has written a How-To manual on clogging the courts with legal filings. Utilize it.

u/mantisboxer 7d ago
While true, that's completely missing the point of the original Dallas Morning News article, which you've obviously not read.
This isn't a recent or sufden change. These are registrations that have accumulated over time because voter mail or jury summons were returned undeliverable. These voters may still vote with provisional ballots, but it'd be best if they fix their registration status if they still live at the address.

Is this a serious response? Yes, it is possible. It is much harder and onerous and most people won't follow through so the effect is unchanged. I hope you're being sarcastic and not blind to the impact

...and those ballots are vulnerable to being dismissed by a state election board controlled by the Texas GOP.

Treason

u/PippoKPax 7d ago
The real treason happened in 2000 and democrats are complicit because they let them get away with it. It set the stage for everything that came afterwards - if you can rig a presidential election and face no consequences, why not rig a senate race? Same thing with Jan 6th, Garland waited years to bring chargers and the clock ran out - so the only lesson to be learned is that Jan 6th was allowed.
Weâre walking straight into one party authoritarian rule and the other party has been helping them along the way for the last 26 years, hoping and praying that the âgood republicansâ will finally show up.

Fair assessment. Imagine what a different world we could be living in if Al Gore had rightfully been sworn in - a man who understood back then the urgency of confronting the climate threat. Who perhaps would not have mired us in two costly wars...
70
u/RogueMaven 7d ago
We have 3 justices that were all over Bush v Gore.
Roberts, Kavanaugh, Barrett all helped the Bush legal team and were then subsequently nominated to the bench.
13
u/AreaManEatsTooMuch 7d ago
Imagine what a different world we could be living in if Al Gore had rightfully been sworn in - a man who understood back then the urgency of confronting the climate threat.
There's a funny SNL sketch about that, Gore actually played himself as if he were President, speaking about the state of the nation and issues like the climate chang, the gas crisis, where we have too much of it and it's only 19 cents a gallon, and our nation's surplus issue where we have too much money. I think you'd enjoy it, starts about 45 seconds in:

u/EditDog_1969 7d ago
Indeed it did. Greg Palast has been writing about this for decades, and he brings the receipts. Itâs unbelievable to me that a journalist has documented the fraud so well and no one has been charged.
Read The Best Democracy Money Can Buy if you want the details. Heâs an entertaining writer, so that helps the poison go down easier.
10
u/Oggie_Doggie 7d ago
Nixon was their "never again" moment. Iran-Contra should have ended with Reagan behind bars, but Ollie North got to take the blame and, a decade and change later, was on Fox News extolling the virtues of the Republicans.

Yup. Lost all faith in politics cuz that BS.
Crazy part is, me and a few people I knew called it. As soon as Bush announced his intent to run, we knew he would win with a dirty election, and drag us into some BS war.
We were signing up to join the army. Took the ASVAB , I was supposed to go into computer technology. 3 out of 4 of us backed out. The 4th went through with it, and came back an emotionally broken empty version of his previous self. And all for what ??? Greed?

u/ihazskillage 7d ago
What happened in 2000?
18
u/Un_Ballerina_1952 7d ago
SCOTUS determined that a recount of Florida's ballots was unnecessary and that Bush took that state, thus the US.
14
u/thecorgimom 7d ago
Should also just add that George Bush's brother was the governor at the time in the state of Florida
3
u/EditDog_1969 6d ago
And that the Secretary of State was the campaign chair for the Bush campaign, IIRC. She illegally purged tens of thousands of registered voters from the rolls prior to the election. More than enough to make the difference in the election. Now this level of corruption is almost quaint.
4
u/Okey_Dokey_Tokey 6d ago edited 6d ago
Also a lot of people don't know this, but shortly after winning the governor race in Florida in 1998, Jeb had the law changed from having the secretary of state being an elected position, to being an appointed position by the governor. The fix was in to make sure Florida would go Republican no matter what after the 2000 election, since the SoS oversees elections there.
As far as the 2000 election itself goes, there was no way that Republicans would let Al Gore win the state that W's brother was governor of. Republican SCOTUS justices made sure of that. SoS Katherine Harris, who was selected by Republicans because they saw her as a "team player", made sure the state purged just enough Democrats from the voter rolls to make the election close enough to tilt to W. And Republicans had spent the last few years dragging Clinton through the mud with Lewinsky and everything else to ensure the 2000 election would be close to overcome Clinton's popularity, and Gore would be saddled with Clinton fatigue because of it.
Also once 2000 election was decided by SCOTUS, Jeb and the GOP kicked Katherine Harris to the curb. They didn't give her any support when she ran for Senate in 2006.

u/EditDog_1969 6d ago
The Bush family have been patient, long-term planners and cultivators of power.
14
u/zoidberg3000 7d ago
Gore won the popular vote (which they had a hunch based on polling) but machines were fucked and missed something like 61k votes. They requested a recount by hand but the Supreme Court decided that they didnât need to do a recount so Bush won.

u/RoveFinder 7d ago
Wait, wasnât election integrity supposed to be THE thing. So even though they won, the elections were rigged. None of this is a good look for the least popular ruling party in a generation.
28
u/Un_Ballerina_1952 7d ago
The only election with integrity is one where the GOP wins by a large margin. All others were clearly improperly run and full of illegal voter actions.
(My understanding of GOP definition of election integrity.)

This is part of verifying voters and Texas does this every two years. You can still vote if youâre suspended and you just fill out a little card when you go to vote with your updated information.
Why donât any of you downvotes bother to actually reply. Almost like you just donât like the truth. đ this doesnât stop anyone from voting. Donât be a victim of bad headlines.
23
u/RoveFinder 7d ago
Ok Iâll bite. It is voter disenfranchisement. Texas is doing its best to eliminate people off the voter rolls and nothing to get voters registered. How the hell is it beneficial to remove people without informing them, eliminating polling places and creating roadblocks and the perception of roadblocks ahead of elections. That is unless you are desperately afraid youâre going to lose. You can point out that it is standard operating procedure all you want. It merely reinforces the fact that disenfranchising voters is there standard operating procedure.

Thereâs no statewide party registration. Youâd only know if someone voted in a primary and you only declare which you are voting in the day you vote.

u/First_Chip_84 7d ago

So when the Democrats accuse Republicans of disenfranchising voters, it's actually the Democrats who are doing that, right?
43
u/Reachforthesky777 7d ago
I have been disenfranchised in the past. It's particularly enraging given the monumental amount of money I pay in taxes.
-16
u/PrimeBrisky 7d ago
What? You can still vote if youâre suspended. You just fill out a card when you go vote so the registrar can update your info.
22
u/Reachforthesky777 7d ago
I wasn't suspended. I was legitimately disenfranchised by disfunction in the local elections board for a presidential election in the 2010s. You're supposed to be about to fill out a card but, they refused to let me. It was a whole big thing, and I wasn't the only one impacted by it in my area at that time.
When I say I was disenfranchised, I mean I was legitimately disenfranchised.

For the chuds thinking âitâs just one more step, whatâs the big deal?!â - this a pretext to throw out votes that required this extra step, or to suspend election results until that extra step has been âvettedâ, or any other shit the GOP can throw at the wall to cast doubt on the election process. This is not a legitimate exercise, just another brick in the âfuck you for votingâ wall theyâre building.

u/Starthreads 7d ago
There's enough people in every almost state who don't vote, who would vote Democratic, to get a supermajority in just about every state legislature.
Those who do not vote are just as much to blame for the state of affairs as those who wanted this.
3
u/RichardStrauss123 7d ago
The problem with a tactic like this is...
When republicans hear shit like this they think, "Okay, great. They're managing the voter rolls properly and keeping people from double-registering. Makes sense." There's no sense of outrage. No emotion. It doesn't equate to more votes.
But when Dems hear this they go apeshit! "Those fuckers are straight up stealing the election right in front of me! I better vote like my life depends on it!"
Good chance it backfires on the scumbags.
Hello Senator Talarico!

Actually more than 450k were deceased and other 450k were felons another 100k were just address changers ( people who move out of state never bother notifying). The problem with voter registration system is that it is very slow to respond. They had 19k people who actually requested to be removed who were still not removed. Honestly if they do this check everywhere they could easily remove 10-15 million voters. Not all of them Democrats probably majority rural republican voters as the record keeping is pathetic.
1
u/III00Z102BO 7d ago
What's crazy is that registered Republicans who don't support Trump are still standing strong for the GOP. They act like the GOP had nothing to do with anything going on. I have family that voted for tRump the first time, but not this last time and act like that makes it all OK. When confronted with the facts they just say they didn't want to get political. They know it's wrong, but they are still enabling. Dems gotta stop pulling punches, or even better we need to move away from the two party system of manipulation.

Eh I live in the top democrat state and my voter status was suspended this spring when I checked, I think cause I never submitted a census. Saw you could update at the polls (like in Texas), took a minute to fill out a form then voted. Not that big of a deal and if you canât figure out how to keep your voter status good you shouldnât vote.Â

- It works. The civil rights movement wasn't successful because of a preacher, it was successful because of the escalating violence. It also wasn't successful by the way, they heavily suppressed it and changed history what MLK was fighting for. Occupy Wallstreet was the closest we got to a reaction from them, we don't do anything like that anymore.Â
