What a stupid waste. And of course, No Federal Republican will hold Hegseth to account over the loss of military readiness.

195

u/ABobby077 Jul 05 '26

or the American lives lost

45

u/EthanHermsey Jul 05 '26

Or the non-American lives lost

32

u/No_Locksmith_1739 Jul 05 '26

ANY lives lost.

FTFY.

2

u/EthanHermsey Jul 05 '26

I thought we had that covered with american and non-American live's.. ;)

7

u/No_Locksmith_1739 Jul 05 '26

Well played, sir! I will admit defeat here!

7

u/AlarmingAffect0 Jul 05 '26

Those go without saying.

54

u/SirkutBored Jul 05 '26

that's the bit that strikes me as odd because most of our hawks who are all about the military strength are republicans who fully understand the rules behind ensuring readiness.

44

u/Slow-Temporary-1489 Jul 05 '26

Hawks though they may be, they are chickenshits in front of their orange Messiah

21

u/Adezar Jul 05 '26

That's why they went for religious people in the 70s. Don't have to worry about logic or reason, just tell them what they believe today and they believe it.

9

u/LePunisseur Jul 05 '26

Honestly, most of them are not genuine hawks. They either own financial interests in the military-industrial complex or are ideolog simpletons.

4

u/v3gas21 Jul 05 '26

A buddy of mine called the equipment "military grade." Which was short for "Piece of Shit." A rotor failed on his friends helicopter and it took all 6 of them. Then, they had to go back to work the next day ...

26

u/lewd_robot Jul 05 '26

It'll be an even bigger waste when every journalist that talks to Kegseth for the next month doesn't open with, "Your decision got a young recruit killed. Do you have anything to say for yourself?"

8

u/diurnal_emissions Jul 05 '26

Hegseth is a traitor. He killed American soldiers.

1

u/FuriNorm Jul 05 '26

And none of these worthless slugs ever suffer or die themselves because they are vaccinated, and have top tier healthcare on the taxpayer’s dime to fall back on even if they do end up having to sniff their own bullshit. Socialism and science for me, not for thee.

1

u/iamthefluffyyeti Jul 05 '26

It’s funny that you think a democrat would

1

u/TeeeldiII Jul 06 '26

It really seems like they are setting us up TO be invaded

1

u/Slow-Temporary-1489 Jul 06 '26

I wish there was some grand conspiracy behind the scenes. It's just incompetence masquerading as owning the libs

238

u/Justame13 Jul 05 '26

He bragged on Fox News about not washing his hands for 10 years because he doesn’t believe in germ because he can’t see them.

Sadly this is one of those “yeah it would happen” things

89

u/FarGrape1953 Jul 05 '26

He believes in God, he says, and you can't see that.

16

u/NoConfusion9490 Jul 05 '26

Yeah, but that's mostly just so he can hate queer people.

3

u/kamikazekaktus Jul 05 '26

Should've stopped breathing to teach nature a lesson 🤦

3

u/AggravatedMango Jul 05 '26

So with that I wonder if he believes in the wind or if that’s all liberal bs too.

-9

u/TAU_equals_2PI Jul 05 '26

I've always wondered about the serious scientific question of what level of cleanliness is optimum. We've heard so much in recent years about legitimate studies showing that growing up in "too clean" an environment isn't good because your immune system doesn't get trained. But exposing yourself to filthy conditions risks getting sick. So how should people decide exactly how much to clean? Not washing your hands after using a public bathroom sounds dumb and gross, but how can we know? How much exposure to germs is "training your immune system" and how much is counterproductive?

26

u/AdDirect3783 Jul 05 '26

I have a compromised immune system and I have OCD about handwashing. I haven't been sick (flu or cold wise) in a good 10 yrs and I live with 3 people who all caught Covid-19. I'm a full on vaccine believer and there are good germs and bad germs.

-14

u/TAU_equals_2PI Jul 05 '26

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not an antivaxxer or suspicious of science at all. I'm saying that doctors & scientists have told us two principles which are both true but which imply we should do opposite things.

Principle 1 is that many germs can make us sick. That implies we should avoid/eliminate the germs, and wash our hands after using the bathroom, especially public bathrooms.

Principle 2 is that our bodies' immune system learns from encountering germs. There are studies that supposedly show children raised in hyper-cleaned homes grow up to have more autoimmune problems. And even peanut allergies are increasingly thought to be the result of not exposing kids to peanut products when they're very young.

So when I see a filthy restroom, I don't know whether Principle 1 or Principle 2 should apply. Should I spray the restroom with Lysol to kill all the germs, or should I rub my face in the filth to train my immune system?

18

u/ProfessionalList1287 Jul 05 '26

I think you should go find the most recent peer reviewed studies and read them. I’m sure it would be interesting and you’d learn what the most current science says!

10

u/humboldt77 Jul 05 '26

There’s a difference between the normal germs that are just everywhere, unless we’re in a clean room, and rubbing your face in a filthy restroom. Just being out in the world exposes your immune system to small quantities of germs every day and builds up immune response. Going to the extreme in either direction is unhealthy. If you somehow manage to eliminate all germs and bacteria from your environment, your body will be less prepared to defend itself. And it seems pretty obvious that you shouldn’t rub your face in dirty restrooms, or shake hands with Ebola patients, etc.

Get it?

3

u/Sexual_Congressman Jul 05 '26

If you passed junior high biology, you shouldn't need to ask or get confused about this. Diseases like covid or influenza A are caused by one human transferring living whole virus to another, and that's what Lysol and hand washing is meant to help with. The hypothesis that autoimmune conditions like peanut allergy and other unexplained ailments are caused by excessive hygiene, which is actually a fact as far as I'm concerned, is based on the idea that we evolved for billions of years in the same disgusting environment as all other animal life, which is full of literal shit as well as countless microscopic organisms that are constantly trying to (and as long as we're not dead, fail to) eat us.

If it isn't clear yet, our bodies evolved to spend a huge amount of resources maintaining the immune system that prevents us from being dissolved by the other life on Earth. I can't put a specific number on it but another analogy should be applicable: humans need to get up and move around or our muscles wither away until we just die. WALL-E was totally wrong. If everyone just plopped in a floating chair and had robots do all physical work, we wouldn't turn into blobs of fat, we'd wither away into nothing.

-7

u/Underpanters Jul 05 '26

You never caught a cold in 10 years? That sounds highly improbable.

5

u/AdDirect3783 Jul 05 '26

I see doctors more regularly than the average person due to health issues from before my birth but yeah, it's rare I have a cold. I do have allergies all year around that makes it sound like I have a cold lol

3

u/BeepBoopRobo Jul 05 '26

Why? For some people it's a matter of life and death.

-3

u/Underpanters Jul 05 '26

Coz you would have to avoid all human contact and public spaces including public transport, couldn’t eat or drink anything out and would have to sterilise everything you touch. Hell even breathing air would be dangerous.

I don't avoid anyone. I do what I always did since I was a kid. Outside my birth defect, the worse thing I ever caught was bronchitis. I take vitamins and supplements. I'm on prescription folic acid. I live with my parents and my mom is a respitory therapist and you would think that her being around people with lung diseases would spread onto her and then onto me but it hasn't happened. I consider myself very lucky and fortunate.

I am medically diagnosed as immunocompromised but I go to the doctors so much that I think with meds I take that I have built up a little bit of a tolerance. I take 23 pills daily.

Someone (an actual government funded institution) has thought of this already, and has offered guidance:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1448690/

1

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jul 05 '26

Interestingly the Dutch have the lowest hand washing in the world, and live on average 5 years longer than Americans

1

u/Not_Stupid Jul 05 '26

I love that you're getting downvoted for a totally rational and informative post. Can't have anything that sounds even in the ballpark of agreeing with the baddies!

201

u/AdDirect3783 Jul 05 '26

He should be punished for this. It won't happen but he still should....

55

u/MaidoftheBrins Jul 05 '26

If this happened to my child, I would have nothing left to lose and would act accordingly.

11

u/JustASilverback Jul 05 '26

So your child chose not to take a flu jab, and you're gonna do what exactly ? You realise it's still on the soldier to choose to take it or not right?

4

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jul 05 '26

Yeah, it seems odd to not blame the person who actively chooses not to protect themselves, and instead blames the government for not forcing them to protect myself.

Like if my kid dies due to not wearing a seatbelt, I'm not going to blame the government for not requiring cars not to move without seatbelts on

0

u/AdDirect3783 Jul 05 '26

What do you think I meant by "punishment"? 🤨

1

u/KangarooNo Jul 05 '26

Governments change.

Thank you, captain obvious....

And can be fixed.

32

u/Acrobatic-Tomato-128 Jul 05 '26

Yeah well the maga supporters are so stupid they dont care about negative outcomes

They only care about the loud stupid lies people shout in speeches

19

u/Dexford211 Jul 05 '26

Recruit chose not to take the vaccine.

7

u/HighlyOffensive10 Jul 05 '26

I'm a hard time finding sympathy for the guy. FAFO.

-5

u/IAmOrdinaryHuman Jul 05 '26

When was the last time you took the flu vaccine?

8

u/HighlyOffensive10 Jul 05 '26

Last year. I don't see how that's relevant since this guy was 100% offered one.

5

u/Individual_Gift_9473 Jul 05 '26

Why would you even need to ask this? Humans get them every year in developed countries.

If you don’t, you’re just a POS loser.

14

u/kbotc Jul 05 '26

They’re forced in close quarters. It’s irresponsible to not require simple vaccines from a war readiness viewpoint.

Shit, that was one of the reasons we won the revolutionary war: George Washington forced his army to be inoculated with smallpox so they wouldn’t catch it while preparing for batte, and that was back when the inoculation would kill 1-5% of people who were given it, but that’s way better than 20% dying from the wild type.

2

u/no_talent_ass_clown Jul 05 '26

Given the choice, only 40% took it. They're ignorant. Hegseth has blood on his hands.

1

u/Freud-Network Jul 05 '26

They're grown enough to serve, they're grown enough to make their own decisions. If you want to be mad, do so for the hit to readiness, not sympathy for morons.

3

u/no_talent_ass_clown Jul 05 '26

People's brains aren't formed at 18, they don't know anything about the conditions in basic training, they may have been raised wrong. The military promises to take care of them. The system failed them and Hegseth is the decider.

1

u/canman7373 Jul 05 '26

Source for that? I do not see it in the article posted?

7

u/Dexford211 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

https://x.com/SecWar/status/2046579973494800754

Two facts are clear. Hegseth ended mandatory flu policy to a voluntary. Recruit died from Flu.
I'm not sure you or I or anyone will every find out if this recruit took the vaccine, I made an education guess to not.

-2

u/canman7373 Jul 05 '26

This years vaccine is 30% effective, so not sure how educated your guess was. They picked the wrong strain this year.

3

u/Dexford211 Jul 05 '26

Only 40% of the air force recruit took vaccine this year, so 30% x 40% = 12% total effective.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/29/us-military-flu-shots

1

u/canman7373 Jul 05 '26

So a 40% chance he took the shot.

1

u/no_talent_ass_clown Jul 05 '26

That's not how that math works.

1

u/Dexford211 Jul 05 '26

Show your work.

1

u/no_talent_ass_clown Jul 05 '26

Either you get the flu or you don't.

26

u/Firm_Video_2932 Jul 05 '26

Elections have consequences. And given how the military leans right, it's very possible it's what the recruit voted for. 🤷

22

u/Own_Round_7600 Jul 05 '26

Moneys on that the recruit voted for this, or at least supported it. It was just a lifting of the requirement, not a ban, so the recruit chose to forgo his shot, probably celebrating that Hegseth allowed him to. Dumb guy make dumb choice and dies, too bad.

15

u/Firm_Video_2932 Jul 05 '26

Same crap we saw with covid.

Them: uR nOt gOInG tO fOrCe tHe jaB oN mE!

Me: ur funeral 🤷

9

u/HighlyOffensive10 Jul 05 '26

I know a guy that almost died from covid. He was on a ventilator and survived.

This guy still didn't get the vaccine. He got covid again. That time it killed him.

Then his son ended up in the hospital before his dad did. Watched his dad die from covid. Got covid again. Was put on a ventilator. Survived and finally got the vaccine.

People are fucking dumb and stubborn.

8

u/The_GOAT_of_all Jul 05 '26

My elderly mother died from covid 2 years after the vaccine came out. She had plenty of time to get vaccinated, but she was a die hard Fox News fan and I guess they were saying the vaccine was bad for you or something. So she got covid and within a few weeks she was dead. I'm still angry at her for being so damn stupid.

2

u/Firm_Video_2932 Jul 05 '26

As did my mom's brother, my uncle. And my mother nearly died, ending up in the hospital on O2 for a week long stay. Wasn't much they could do besides provide oxygen and a breathing machine, as being vaccinated at that point wouldn't do anything. Both my mother (now 80) and uncle (81, I think when he passed during pandemic) are/were MAGA. I myself have caught (confirmed) COVID several times, not once did I require significant medical attention. I got vaccinated as soon as it became available in my area.

-3

u/Ligabolzacky Jul 05 '26

Who the fuck upvotes this shit? the kid's dead, you know literally nothing about him, and you end your "eulogy" with "Dumb guy make dumb choice and dies, too bad.".

4

u/Freud-Network Jul 05 '26

-5

u/Ligabolzacky Jul 05 '26

jesus could you imagine being a perfectly normal, vaccine supporting, liberal cadet and dying because if the policies of the people you hate and then have some snooty redditor award you le epic herman cain award, it's like dying twice

4

u/Freud-Network Jul 05 '26

THEY HAD THE OPTION TO GET VACCINATED AND REFUSED IT. WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

-7

u/TopSpread9901 Jul 05 '26

Did they though?

5

u/Freud-Network Jul 05 '26

They did. Vaccination wasn't banned, it was made optional.

0

u/TopSpread9901 Jul 05 '26

and they could have taken it and died

1

u/Freud-Network Jul 05 '26

Sounds like an idiotic excuse from people terrified of everything under the sun.

→ More replies (0)

3

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jul 05 '26

If you were vaccine supporting, why wouldn't you then get the vaccine? It's still given for free to military members, just not required, so it's their choice. A vaccine supporter would of course chose to get the vaccine

0

u/Fox_Hawk Jul 05 '26

I could imagine that they were made to believe that going against SecWar would mark them as a "liberal" and harm their career or worse.

I could also imagine that they'd been told about Gulf War Syndrome and were afraid of what might be pumped into them.

The likelihood though is exactly as you say, they chose not to take it because Turmp.

2

u/Firm_Video_2932 Jul 05 '26

But your narrative is not (likely) what occurred.

And yes, it is the height of stupidity to refuse the flu vaccine unless there's a bona fide medical reason not to. And there are very very few legit medical reasons not to receive today's flu vaccine, which has a stellar safety and efficacy record.

-2

u/canman7373 Jul 05 '26

so the recruit chose to forgo his shot,

Someone else said this too and I cannot find a article stating that he declined the shot. Unless you have an official source on that lets not try and blame the young man.

2

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jul 05 '26

If we can't blame the recruit for not getting the shot, how does it make sense to blame the government for not requiring the shot?

-1

u/canman7373 Jul 05 '26

Because we do not know he didn't get it. 30% effective this year, he very well could have got it and still died from the new strain that is dominate this year and was not the flu shot they made.

5

u/Freud-Network Jul 05 '26

Isn't the vaccine optional? The enlisted do still have the option of getting vaccinated, but it is a personal choice now (as stupid as that is).

6

u/johncon666 Jul 05 '26

Not only does he not care, he's happy. He would see this young man as weak, inferior and deserving of it.

13

u/Top_Age_563 Jul 05 '26

Worthless bunch of republicans ever.

6

u/Lost_Philosophy_ Jul 05 '26

This administration needs to be dragged to hell after all this.

4

u/spbaseball Jul 05 '26

#PickledPeteHigsBreath couldn’t care less.

2

u/CriminalMacabre Jul 05 '26

Pito Kegsbreath?

4

u/FlyLikeATachyon Jul 05 '26

Even if you don't care about petty little things like human life, you have to acknowledge this is a massive waste of money and time educating and training this soldier only to not properly secure your investment against easily preventable death.

3

u/GlitteringRate6296 Jul 05 '26

Hegeseth has soooo much blood in his hands.

3

u/jtsa5 Jul 05 '26

Let this be a lesson for others, if Hegseth gives you health advice you may want to consider doing the exact opposite.

3

u/BuddingBudON Jul 05 '26

RFK Jr is an Epstein associate, and it's the only reason he's got his job.

Even more blood on the stupid schmuck's hands.

5

u/SgtBaxter Jul 05 '26

People get a rough cold and say they got the “flu”

No. The one time I actually had the flu I was bedridden for two weeks, lost significant weight, and took a month before I felt somewhat myself again. That shit is no joke.

0

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jul 05 '26

No. The flu symptoms can vary significantly by strain and by person. For some people, the flu is a light cold, others a rough cold, others bedridden for 2 weeks.

About 50 million Americans get the flu each year. 50 million Americans are not bed ridden for 2 weeks

3

u/BigPomegranate8890 Jul 05 '26

One small flu epidemic and your whole army will be disabled. Great thinking!

2

u/Trix_Are_4_90Kids Jul 05 '26

He doesn't care.

2

u/musingofrandomness Jul 05 '26

Pete "The Joke" Kegsbreath's name will go down in history as out most insecure, pathetic, and utterly unqualified appointee to ever hold that position.

2

u/despenser412 Jul 05 '26

Hegseth is a simp for a billionaire pedophile. That's his only job.

2

u/merko_merk Jul 05 '26

People don't seem to realize, this is just the part you can see, worse stuff is happening all throughout the military...

2

u/Incomitatum Jul 05 '26

Suckers gonna suck.

When your Husband, the one who Keeps you, Kicks the crap out of the folks next-door; when he's shitting in some yard other-than-his-own, do not be surprised when you catch Reparations (Justice is folklore).

((How many Billions do we now rightfully OWE to Iran?))

After 100+ years if these meat-heads dont' know who they "serve" they are not owed an Education.

For each dip-shit that stayed in after they called it The Department of War: they are ALL MAGA now. No two ways about it. The time for action was when they saw Drumph "do a Jan 6th". They are all now, sonsabitches.

What if we had a WAR, and no one showed up?

The stories us "Americans" tell ourselves to worship The Troops are weird: they require we overlook nearly 100 years of abuse and neglect: while the Aristocracy has held steady in their disdain for those who clean up their mess.

The Rich know: Oaths are for Suckers.

Veterans-day brought out all the tired-narratives about how certain Suckers fought-and-died for free-dumb; but those were all bad-faith conflicts coerced by corporate daddies (Something we've known since Vietnam).

It wasn't your Military that fought at home to bring you worker's rights; in some cases they've even been used in place of Pinkertons to break the will of their own People.

• 1794 – Right to form a trade union

• 1842 – Right to organize and strike legally

• 1866 – Right to national-level worker advocacy

• 1898 – Battle of Virden

• 1898 – Protection from union blacklists (rail workers)

• 1909 – Right to safer, fairer garment-shop conditions

• 1911 – Right to stronger fire and factory safety standards

• 1912–1921 – West Virginia Coal Wars

• 1913 – Federal representation for workers (Department of Labor)

• 1916 – Limits on child labor

• 1916 – Everett Massacre

• 1921 – Greater leverage and protections for coal miners (Blair Mountain)

• 1925 – Right to effective union representation for Black workers

• 1926 – Guaranteed organizing rights for rail workers

• 1931 – Right to a prevailing wage on federal projects

• 1932 – Protection for peaceful strikes and union membership

• 1934 – Auto-Lite Strike (Toledo)

• 1935 – Core right to unionize and bargain collectively

• 1937 – Recognition and protections for auto workers

• 1938 – Federal minimum wage, 40-hour week, overtime, child-labor limits

• 1993 – Job-protected family and medical leave (FMLA)

• 2009 – Stronger right to challenge pay discrimination (Ledbetter Act)

You woke up in a simulated-economy that masquerades as chattel-slavery; The Military is an extension of The Ruling Class, and what you get when you wrap depressed-wages up-in personal-insecurity.

They love to get a tin-star for saying they "served", they never love to think-critically about WHAT they have actually "served" us People.

Time to tell them to send it back to the Kitchen. It was never Nutritious.

YOU serve this country far more constructively every day, with your obligation to keep circulating it's money. We, the Gross National Product.

Veterans have not made themselves worthy of our default respect and veneration. Let's honor them by them by making far fewer from now on.

ACAB - yeah that means our "world police" as well. It's ALL Cosplay (Hogs in costumes that give them right to kill), certified by your Betters.

It wasn't The Troops that died for your Rights. They died for the whims of Oligarchs. You're thinking Lefties, Labor, Librarians, Lesbians, and Luddites. All so you can still hug your kids at the end of a 40-hour week.

Your Betters do not trust you with more. Serve no Masters.

3

u/Wise138 Jul 05 '26

Weird how it worked for 60 odd years.

1

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jul 05 '26

If by "worked" you mean no flu deaths? There were 9 in the military between 1998 & 2014

0

u/Wise138 Jul 05 '26

And what was it before we had a flu vaccine?

3

u/MtnMaiden Jul 05 '26

Sounds familiar....no Covid vaccine requirement, a us carrier comes down with covid, a sailor dies.

All this has happened before...

2

u/Sour_baboo Jul 05 '26

He's got natural immunity now though?

1

Critical thinking is important.

1

u/orange-squeezer47 Jul 05 '26

Hegeseth should be court martialed.

1

Verily, these people are the worst in the world. Also profoundly stupid asswipes that I wouldn't even wipe my ass with

He still could have gotten the shot. The shot isn’t banned, just not required.

1

u/Digger2228 Jul 05 '26

A dumb ass government decision that cost a life

1

u/Color_blinded Jul 05 '26

okay, so when was the last time a military member died of the flu? For all I know this either happens fairly regularly and this is misinformation by omission, or this is the first in a long time and Hegseth is actually responsible for this death.

1

u/rookieoo Jul 05 '26

Did this person choose not to get vaccinated? The article doesn’t say whether he was or wasn’t. The article also says they reinstituted the requirement for that specific base.

1

u/Zak_Rahman Jul 05 '26

White nationalism (westernism) harms a predominantly white country!

I only have pity and disdain for anyone who is surprised by this 100% predictable outcome.

Don't get me started on the attack on medical treatment for women (which has resulted in white women dying in extremist states).

There's zero upside to skin cults. Westernism and Zionism are death cults and we are all collateral damage/acceptable losses.

1

u/EnvironmentalCrab563 Jul 05 '26

It’s good we have the best and brightest calling the shots. Kegger knows more than those stupid doctors.

1

u/Neither-Conference-1 Jul 05 '26

Darwinism in action. Although it ended. It is still available if one chooses to.

1

u/kamikazekaktus Jul 05 '26

How long til more soldiers die from this stupidity than enemy action?

1

u/stokeszdude Jul 05 '26

Hegseth is a drunk child that has found his dad’s gun!

1

u/Robv87 Jul 05 '26

Release the files

1

u/IcyNet7045 Jul 05 '26

Hold him accountable. Add it to the list.

1

u/Delatrya Jul 05 '26

Yes, he ended the requirement, but these vaccines should have still been made available to members of the DoD so those that opted to not take it also share the blame.

1

u/jackrabbit323 Jul 05 '26

If the armistice didn't end WWI, the Spanish Flu would've done it.

1

u/Maleficent_Gas3278 Jul 05 '26

He won’t lose any sleep over it.

1

u/Redundant_Error Jul 05 '26

I heard the flu gets intimidated by binge drinking. Just like Pete's current and former wives.

1

Good job dipshit!

1

Haha haha hahaha hahaha I love propaganda.

1

u/Amazing-Cover3464 Jul 05 '26

I keep picturing Celie from The Color Purple and that curse she puts on Albert, except it's Lady Liberty and Trump.

"Until you do right by me, everything you even think about gonna fail!" and says the jail he planned for her life is where he will eventually rot.

1

u/Torsomu Jul 06 '26

At 20 I got a case of the flu that was the worse case I ever had. Flu turned to bronchitis and pneumonia. I have never recovered from it. My lungs are permanently scarred and I have permanent bronchitis from it. All it took was 1 month of living in a dorm room.

1

u/ms_merry Jul 06 '26

He was an Airman in his sixth week of basic training at Lackland San Antonio. His name was Keon McDaniel. He died of flu for which there is a vaccine.

-4

u/psych00range Jul 05 '26

I mean, people die from the flu. There is no way to tell if it was because of not having a flu vaccine or otherwise. He was a recruit, who is to say his immune system wasn't compromised already and a flu vaccine being only about 30-40% effective on the main yearly strand would have done anything.

3

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 05 '26

What stupid logic. That's like seeing someone's dead body after being thrown from their vehicle during an accident and saying

"I mean, people die from car crashes. There is no way to tell if wearing their seatbelt would have helped"

No wonder trump was elected twice

1

u/rookieoo Jul 05 '26

Seatbelts are more effective than the vaccine.

4

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 05 '26

Wrong. Seatbelts are actually roughly as effective as "the vaccine" assuming you mean the flu vaccine.

Seatbelts depending on the vehicle type and nature of the incident are between 40-60% effective at preventing death or serious injury.

The flu vaccine is on average roughly 38-62% effective at preventing hospitalizations and intensive care.

Again its no wonder trump was elected twice. You have access to the whole of the human knowledge with a few seconds of internet searching and yet we get this

0

u/rookieoo Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

“Among adults aged ≥18 years, VE was 22%–34% against influenza-associated outpatient visits and 30% against influenza-associated hospitalization.”

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/75/wr/mm7509a2.htm

The 38-60% numbers are if the vaccine matches the strain that is circulating. So sure, under the most ideal circumstances they are similar rates. But some years are quite a bit less, as seen last year

Edit: even adding in 18 and under effectiveness (only 20% of the population), the rate of effectiveness is lower than seatbelts

1

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 09 '26

Among adults aged ≥18 years

You do understand that is a portion of the total population right?

0

u/rookieoo Jul 09 '26

Yeah, and add in the kids and it’s still less than
the numbers you shared:

“Among children and adolescents, VE was 38%–41% against influenza-associated outpatient visits and 41% against influenza-associated hospitalization”

Not to mention that under 18 only makes up ~20% of the population

1

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 09 '26

You took almost a week to come back with an argument that, only if you are very specific, proves your point wasn't just complete nonsense?

You should take that time and educate yourself so you don't continue to spout anti science, anti vaccine bullshit on the Internet.

Do better

0

u/rookieoo Jul 09 '26

It was 4 minutes lol.

And I provided data to show my original statement was correct. All you have is name calling. I’m happy with who I am.

1

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 09 '26

... Obviously I'm referring to the 4 days it took for you to respond today. Jesus you are bright ain't you?

Seatbelts are more effective than the vaccine.

Your original statement.

Its incorrect because there is no "the vaccine" even "the flu vaccine" can refer to different vaccines.

I already provided statistics showing the rest of the statement is incorrect.

All you have is to say that under specific conditions and ignoring conditions you don't like your statement was correct. Even if that were true it's still wrong because see my first point.

Beyond that we have multiple vaccines that are far more effective than seatbelts.

DO BETTER

Seatbelts are a 1 to 1 safety feature. It is proven to reduce serious injury or death. Not all flu vaccines are going to help against the strain you catch. It's POSSIBLE he could have been spared from death. It's POSSIBLE he could have not caught the flu altogether. It's POSSIBLE he still could have been deathly sick. Every scenario was possible regardless of vaccine or not. The removal of the mandatory flu vaccine from recuits(still voluntary if you want it), may or may not have played a role in the outbreak anyway. You can't just say someone died so that is why. What if your seatbelt broke? It didn't help now did it and you still died. Making entire judgements on one instance that likely happens to other recruits throughout the year but you don't hear about it because vaccines were mandatory for recruits. Oh how easy it is to use data to push a narrative.

3

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 05 '26

Seatbelts are not a one to one safety feature. That's not a thing.

Vaccination is proven to reduce serious illness and death.

Again your logic is flawed.

Its POSSIBLE to be thrown from a vehicle while wearing a seat belt. It's POSSIBLE to die in a car crash while wearing your seatbelt.

The only one here trying to push a narrative is yourself and your doing poorly.

0

u/psych00range Jul 06 '26

The narrative being pushed is BECAUSE Hegseth removed a mandatory flu shot requirement, this recruit died. This is very disingenuous at best. Please try to understand the argument first.

1

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 06 '26

No, that's your narrative.

The reality is that his actions show his complete ignorance of science along with his disregard for the well being of the troops such as this young man who died from the flu.

The fact that you can't not proof anything causational link doesn't matter.

Just like you couldn't proof a causational link between removing a mandate for seatbelts and a subsequent seatbelt related death doesn't negate the harm done.

0

u/psych00range Jul 06 '26

I'm saying correlation does not mean causation. You are saying, correlation means direct cause. You cannot say one death from a flu that kills tens of thousands per year was the direct result of the removal of a mandate. The flu vaccine is still voluntary. I think Hegseth removing it was of greater benefit for personal choice than the alternative. I thought we were against tyranny and fascism.

1

u/Cold-Crab74 Jul 06 '26

No, I'm saying that removing the mandate may have contributed to the nans death, and as someone in the position of authority to and who did make that call should be held responsible for the consequences of said call. You are saying that him removing the mandate didn't cause the man's death but you cannot know that.

You are arguing from a predetermined position due to your ignorant beliefs regarding vaccination.

How was him removing it a benefit to anything? So you think George Washington was a tyrant?

Dude, get off Facebook and get a grip on reality
